OFFICE FOR LASALLIAN Ministry
The Office for Lasallian Ministry of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Antipolo is dedicated to integrating Lasallian principles of education, formation, and social development into the Benildean community way of life.
Every 29th of October, we celebrate the Anniversary of the Canonization of our Patron Saint Benilde Romançon. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI on 29 October 1967, becoming the first Brother of the Institute to be canonized after Saint John Baptist de La Salle.
In celebration of the Benilde Mission Week, October 23-29, the Office for Lasallian Ministry invites the community to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in honor of our Patron, Saint Benilde Romançon on October 23, 2023, Monday at 9:00 AM at the Chapel of Saint La Salle, 3rd Floor.
April 7 is the Feast of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Every year, we commemorate this date because it is the anniversary of St John Baptist de La Salle's death. However, this year, there is something different - something special - about this day.
In 1719, the year that our Founder passed away, April 7 was Good Friday. This year, April 7 once again falls on Good Friday. This has not happened since 1950, and it will not happen again until 2034.
If there is anyone who would feel only gratitude that his feast day is overshadowed by the remembrance of the death of Jesus, it would be St. La Salle. After all, it was he who wisely wrote: “It is certain that if we are united with him through likeness to his death, we will also be united with him through likeness to his resurrection, and if we die to sin with Jesus Christ, we will also live with him.”
We usually celebrate Founder's Day closer to more joyful occasions such as May 15, the anniversary of St. La Salle being declared 'patron of the educators of young people', but it is more than fitting to spare a thought and prayer for him today.
As we commemorate the death of Jesus in anticipation of his rising to new life, let us also celebrate the 17th century Frenchman who devoted his life to worship, education, and a steadfast adherence to the path that God laid out before him.
Our beloved Founder lived to the age of 68, a remarkable feat in a time when life expectancy for men was only 25 years. Though his health was never the most robust, he lived a longer lifespan than his mentor, Nicolas Roland, who died at 35, and both of his parents. His active lifestyle no doubt played a role in his longevity, for the man spent forty years travelling all over France largely by foot, helping Brothers and teachers to form and organise schools. In doing so, his capabilities and efforts shaped the lives of countless young people.
Even in the face of adversity, St. La Salle remained kind, patient, and determined. Though church authorities opposed his efforts on occasion, he was not swayed. Two or three days before his death, our Founder was told by Canon Blain that a large storm was brewing against him - yet St. La Salle still remained serene. He received the final anointing on Holy Thursday, blessed the Brothers for the last time, and died at around the fourth hour of the following morning.
His final words, translated as "I adore all the ways God has acted in my life," are a testament to his unwavering faith and his deep sense of gratitude.
As we reflect on John Baptist's life and legacy, may we continue to be guided by his example as we work to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. Let us remember his commitment to education and community, and strive to embody his values of compassion, service, and humility.
Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
Live, Jesus, in our hearts, forever.
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Lenten Season in our Liturgical year. It is a day of universal fast and abstinence in the Catholic Church and in other Christian Churches.
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) would always remind us of God's contant call for renewal in our Chrisitan life by self-control (fasting and abstinence), generosity and charity(almsgiving) and prayer.
To celebrate such sacramental grace of the Lenten Season, the Office for Lasallian Ministry would like to invite everyone to attend and hear the Holy Mass with the imposition of ashes on your forehead on February 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at our Saint La Salle Chapel. This is not a required activity for both students and associates in consideration of the scheduled mid-term examination.
The Holy Mass and the imposition of holy ashes will be administered by Rev. Fr. Eldrick Peṅa II, a Lasallian and Prefect of Discipline of the Saint John Paul II Minor Seminary, Diocese of Antipolo.
Let us always remind ourselves and our students of the meaning and significance of this occasion in order to achieve a full, conscious, and intelligent participation during the celebration.

From the Homily of Pope Paul VI on the Occasion of the Canonization of Saint Benilde Romançon
Brothers and sisters, who now regard Brother Benilde as an outstanding figure, you do so because you know that during his earthly life he was imbued with humility, silence, simplicity undervalued by the society in which he found himself. You ask yourselves, as we do, what were the qualities that gave value to this hidden existence. The reply comes easily and immediately: his holiness in the form of a life led in total reference to God.
It was this form of life, totally turned towards God, totally involved in his response to his vocation, totally absorbed in prayer and in the observance of the actions proper to a religious, totally imbued with transmitting the great truths of religion to the innocent minds of young pupils, totally pervaded with a simple and spontaneous conversation with God, with Christ present in the Eucharist, with Mary and Joseph and all the saints. Was this not the life characteristic of our new saint, our Benilde? The testimony is often repeated: He prayed all the time, the rosary beads never left his hand, and he was called ‘the man with the rosary. But his holiness had other aspects to it. It was, we can say, an art of living, a wonderful balance of two operational principles, one the interior will and the other the external Rule. They transformed a humble existence into a moral phenomenon of human beauty.
Happy Canonization Anniversary to you, O, Saint Benilde Romançon. Pray for us!

The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a traditional practice among Catholic academic institutions in which the community gathers to thank God the Father for the countless blessings we have received from Him. It is a time for us, as one Lasallian Family, to implore God's guidance, protection, and wisdom in this new academic year of the Lord.
We believe that this presence of the grace of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist always reminds us of our sacramental union with God and unity with one another most especially during this most challenging time in our academic history.
Our Mass Presider will be Reverend Fr. Ivan Joseph F. Feniquito , the Spiritual Director of Saint John Paul Minor Seminary, Diocese of Antipolo.

Mateo 1, 1-16. 18-23
At tatawagin itong Emmanuel.” Ang kahuluga’y “Kasama natin ang Diyos.”
Ang Mabuting Balita ng Panginoon.
Pinupuri Ka namin, Panginoong Hesukristo!

REFLECTIONS:
We all love to celebrate birthdays. Today is the birthday celebration of our dear mother. In December we honor her Immaculate Conception. In January we celebrate her as the Mother of God. In August we celebrate her Assumption into Heaven and there are many other days throughout the year where we honor a unique aspect of her life. But today is simply her birthday celebration!
Celebrating her birthday is a way of celebrating her personhood. We celebrate her simply for being herself. We do not necessarily focus on any of the unique, beautiful and profound aspects of her life today. We do not necessarily look at all she accomplished, her perfect yes to God, her coronation in Heaven, her assumption or any other specifics. All parts of her life are glorious, beautiful, awe-inspiring and worthy of their own unique feasts and celebration.
Today, however, we simply celebrate our Blessed Mother because she was created and brought into this world by God and that alone is worth celebrating. We honor her simply because we love her and we celebrate her birthday as we would celebrate the birthday of anyone we love and care for.
Reflect, today, upon the fact that Mother Mary is your mother. She truly is your mother and it’s worth celebrating her birthday in the same way that you would celebrate anyone’s birthday who was a member of your family. Your honoring of Mary, today, is a way of solidifying your bond with her and assuring her that you desire her to be an important part of your life.
Happy birthday, Blessed Mother! We love you dearly!
PRAYER:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Precious Jesus, through the heart of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, our Mother, we trust in You!

Lucas 6, 20-26

REFLECTIONS:
Are the above statements typos? Did Jesus really say these things?
At first, the Beatitudes can seem quite confusing. And when we strive to live them, they can be very challenging. Why is it blessed to be poor and hungry? Why is one blessed who is weeping and hated? These are difficult questions with perfect answers.
The truth is that each Beatitude ends with a glorious outcome when fully embraced in accord with the will of God. Poverty, hunger, sorrow and persecution are not, by themselves, blessings. But when they befall us they do offer an opportunity for a blessing from God that far surpasses any difficulty the initial challenge presents.
Poverty affords one the opportunity to seek out the riches of Heaven above all else. Hunger drives a person to seek the food of God that sustains beyond what the world can offer. Weeping, when caused by one’s own sin or the sins of others, helps us seek justice, repentance, truth and mercy. And persecution on account of Christ enables us to be purified in our faith and to trust in God in a way that leaves us abundantly blessed and filled with joy.
At first, the Beatitudes may not make sense to us. It’s not that they are contrary to our human reason. Rather, the Beatitudes go beyond what immediately makes sense and they enable us to live on a whole new level of faith, hope and love. They teach us that the wisdom of God is far beyond our own limited human understanding.
Reflect, today, upon the incredible wisdom of God as He reveals these, the deepest teachings of the spiritual life. At very least, try to reflect upon the fact that God’s wisdom is far above your wisdom. If you struggle to make sense of something painful and difficult in your life, know that God has an answer if you seek out His wisdom.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me to find blessings in the many challenges and hardships of life. Rather than seeing my crosses as evil, help me to see Your hand at work in transforming them and to experience a greater outpouring of Your grace in all things. Jesus, I trust in You.

REFLECTIONS:
That morning, after Jesus had spent the night in prayer, He made some pretty major decisions. He chose His first twelve bishops, the Twelve Apostles. It’s interesting to note that He made this decision only after spending the night in prayer.
In a sense, Jesus did not “have” to pray. But He did. He prayed because this is Who He is. He is the Son of the Father and His most important relationship was the one with the Father in Heaven. Thus, His prayer was one that was natural to His divine life and essence. Spending the night in prayer, separated from everything but His Father, was a normal expression of His perfect love and communion with the Father.
But His time in prayer was also a normal way for Him to prepare for the decisions He would make the next day. Again, it’s not that He needed to pray so as to make the right choice. Rather, His prayer was simply part of the divine process of making the right choice. It was a way of daily surrendering His human nature to the will of the Father in perfection so as to continue daily living the Father’s will in this world.
Jesus also sets a wonderful precedence for us. We, unlike our Lord, need to pray in order to know and fulfill the will of the Father. We do not walk in perfect harmony with God each and every day and each moment of the day. Thus, while Christ’s prayer was an earthly expression of Him living who He already was, our prayer is a surrender to whom we are called to become. We must become Christ, striving to live in perfect communion with Him and in accord with the perfect will of the Father.
Reflect, today, upon the need you have to spend time in prayer so as to enter more deeply into union with our Lord. Reflect, especially, upon the importance of doing so prior to making the various decisions you need to make in life. Pray before you act and allow our Lord to be the one who enters into your life and directs you in accord with His holy will.
PRAYER:
Lord, give me a heart that longs to be with You in prayer, each and every day. Help me to daily surrender my entire life to You without reserve. As I surrender my life, I thank You for entering in and directing all my actions. My life is Yours, dear Lord, my life is Yours. Jesus, I trust in You.
