The volunteers and supporters of the Bangon Abyan initiative believe that everyone deserves to have a decent and safe home. Today, the Bangon Abyan volunteers headed by our president Joey Marino has started working on the repair and improvement of the home of one of our high school batchmates who is struggling badly in life.

This project shows that if we work together and extend our hand to help, we can accomplish great things. No one words can describe how thankful we are to everyone who believes in this project. We still have a long way to go and we still have yet to finish our first project but we are very optimistic and we are looking forward to doing more.

Bangon Abyan's first project has been supported by the HAPI Homes project of HAPI - Humanist Alliance Philippines, International, Fortuno-Sapa Optical and alumnis of the Domingo Lacson National High School batch 2004.

2nd meeting together with our first two beneficiaries of the DLNHS Batch 2004 Bangon Abyan Initiative headed by our president Joey Marino.

One of our beneficiary is a batchmate who has a kid who needs medical attention. Our batch has given them some help through a small financial assistance so that they can have their son checked by the doctor at the soonest possible time.

We are very thankful to our generous donors and to those who have helped jumpstart this initiative like the HAPI - Humanist Alliance Philippines, International and Bacolod ARK Project. Today we have taken another step closer towards our goal of reaching out to our batch mates who need help.

A million and one thanks to all who believe in Bangon Abyan.

Hope and Kindness During the Pandemic

It has been a very difficult year for many of us. Many of our brothers and sisters, although not being infected by the virus, have suffered because of this pandemic due to the economy being hit really really badly. Many jobs were lost and looking for work to feed a family has been very difficult.

Despite the challenging times, some of us who are alumni of Domingo Lacson National High School batch 2004 still believe that we can still shine a glimmer of hope to those in need. Even though we are also heavily affected by the effects of the pandemic, we have faith that if we work together we can ease the burden of many of our badly affected fellowmen. Even if we just do it one family at a time.

In line with this, we started a for impact initiative called Bangon Abyan. Our goal is to uplift the spirit of our former schoolmates or batchmates that have been poverty stricken. The plan is to do mini projects such as:

- House repairs so that they can at least have a decent shelter to live in
- Job referrals so that they can have a head start to stand on their own feet again
- Skills training so that they may find better opportunities for work
- Small donations for those who need medical assistance and have nothing in their pocket so that they can continue to live

How can we do this?

At the moment, this initiative relies heavily on your help through donations. Donations don't necessarily mean that you need to dole out cash. This may also come in the form of referrals or services such as carpentry, planning, cooking, etc. Eventually, as we grow stronger as a community that looks back to our friends and former schoolmates, we can create programs that can help get funds from other sources.

Why do I need to support this initiative?

No reason at all. We know that everyone is going through a difficult time. However, some of us are going through a much more difficult time than we are. Most of us have experienced or have seen what poverty looks like when we were in high school. We just hope that by doing these things, we can make the world a better place.

If you are interested to support this initiative, please let us know.
