SPORTS UPDATE: Laban! Hanot! Bunal!

Bacolodnons are set to represent the Philippines in the Southeast Asia Tchoukball Championship in Singapore on July 17-18, 2023.

The men’s and women’s team coached by John Elray Jamelo will square off against Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, and host country Singapore at the Pasir Ris Sports Centre.

The men’s team is supposed to see action in the 2023 World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic after their 2nd Runner-Up finish in the 2022 Asia Pacific Championships, but due to financial constraints, the Tchoukball Association of the Philippines turned their focus in the regional meet.

Meanwhile, the women’s team answers the call of duty after a failure to stage a national tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic and teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao begged off.

During this pandemic, I have seen something that I had never seen before: bible studies online proliferating all over the world. For two years now I have been handling Bible studies via Zoom for my relatives — my mother, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters — in California and Texas, in Luzon and Palawan. This could never have happened if not for the pandemic. Some of these relatives I have not seen for decades. Some I have never been particularly close to. But in the course of our bible studies, I was able to share the gospel, I have seen family members reunited, and some I believe have even come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. And this has happened to many others all over the world. I believe a very important reason why God allowed this pandemic to happen was because he wants the knowledge of the glory of his grace in the gospel of Jesus Christ to fill the earth.
