Psalm 37:25-26
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed

This has been a verse of Scripture that the Lord has used to assure me, especially now that I am old, and my children are all adults already. The Lord has been so gracious, and has never forsaken me and my family.

Reminding everyone who attends our church, The Lord's Lampstand Christian Church, we only have one worship service today, 9am, as we celebrate our 28th anniversary.

Psalms 18:1-6 (NIV)
[1] I love you, O LORD, my strength.
[2] The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
[3] I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and I am saved from my enemies.

[4] The cords of death entangled me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
[5] The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.

[6] In my distress I called to the LORD;
I cried to my God for help.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came before him, into his ears.

Who said that God does not give us a situation that we cannot handle? Look at what David was going through- surrounded by death, destruction, the grave.
It’s not about what we are facing, but WHO we are facing it with. Because David knew who His God was, he called to Him, cried out to Him, and he knew that God heard his prayer.
Like David, can we claim God to be MY strength, MY rock, MY fortress, MY deliverer, MY God in whom we take refuge, MY shield, MY salvation, MY stronghold. “MY” is intentionally in all caps, because it’s not about what others say, what the preacher says, or what a book says - it’s about what WE know personally about who our God is.

Prayer by itself has no power, unless you are praying to a God that YOU know is who He says He is. His Word. The Word.

John 17:3 (NIV)
[3] Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
[18] But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Proverbs 25:27 (NIV)

nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.

Proverbs 11:24-25 (NIV)
[24] One man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

[25] A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Mark 8:34-38 (NIV)
[34] Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. [35] For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. [36] What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? [37] Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? [38] If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels.”

Psalms 12:8 (NIV)
[8] The wicked freely strut about
when what is vile is honored among men.

Our country is not corrupt because politicians are corrupt. Our nation is corrupt because men are corrupt, and they honor this kind of life. Corruption doesn’t just exist in politics. It’s everywhere. Big corporations, small businesses, sidewalk vendors, beggars, even students. If you look carefully corruption is so evident in our hearts. People will steal, bribe, fool, lie, even kill, just to get what we want. And if we are quick to say “I’m not corrupt”, how many of us will not hesitate to bribe a traffic officer or lie when we’re caught violating a law, or skip the process in government offices by looking for our “kumpare” or “kumare” to speed up the process? We hide behind legalities, and do wrong by reasoning out - “how will my family eat?”.

God Himself is the perfect law. He is righteousness, and all righteousness comes from Him and for Him. This is why we are sinners, because all of us have fallen short of living life for God and according to His righteousness. When we sin we are not just doing wrong, we are sinning against God.

This is why we need a Savior. Someone to set us free from this bo***ge of sin. Someone to reconcile us back to God, and bring us back to the righteousness that only He can give.
The Son of God became man so that He could become our ultimate sacrifice, paying the penalty of ain that we should have paid for ourself, bringing back the life of God in us.

God does not save a nation, He saves a sinful man from sin, and that he/she may have the righteousness of God restored in him. That’s why He sent His one and only Son. Corruption may remain in our country, but it does not have to remain in your heart and in your life. God is calling us to repent, and believe that Christ was sent to be the sacrifice that would reconcile us to God, and release us from the hold of sin in our life.

John 3:16-17 (NIV)
[16] “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 3:19-21 (NIV)
[19] This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. [20] Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. [21] But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (NIV)
[17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! [18] All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: [19] that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. [20] We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. [21] God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
