Improving and maintaining their emotional well-being - Most alumni report that their exposure and discovery of music and their own skill in music-making helps them in their daily lives, and especially at work, where it helps them stay happy and mentally-sharp

As an outlet for creativity - Alumni report that their musical experience helped improve their creativity, and that this creativity was carried over to other fields of work, which helps them in their jobs in both tasks and other endeavors such as team building activities

As a confidence-booster - Many of our alumni report that their education at Peniel helped them boost their confidence, with many taking on risks and responsibilities they otherwise might never have taken without the confidence they picked up from studying music and performing

Patience - Likewise, many alumni cite how important it was to their current employments that their tenure at Peniel helped them develop patience, a skill that translated to other fields and allowed them to perform beyond expectations at work

RHEIANNE and HER VIOLIN☺️

In today’s times, the search for identity is one that preoccupies the minds of many people, and people will seek out identity from a multitude of sources. Most of the major social movements today are driven by identity, from feminism, civil rights, nationalism, Christian revivalism and the LGBTQIA+ movements. All are driven by the desire to find, understand and affirm identity, whether by race, gender, faith or nationality.
Our theme for the month of August is “Who Are You?” For this month, we will explore how music helps us find ourselves, discover ourselves, and our place in the world. Music, as the universal language, transcends gender, age, race and politics and simultaneously unites people and gives them a sense of identity and individuality.
Take for example our Student of the Month, Rheianne. A student of the violin, Rheianne describes the violin as a harsh mistress, but that the difficulties of it only makes it challenging and more appealing to her. In our interview with her, we could not help but notice her own similarities to the violin. The instrument, known for its ability to rapidly transition across scales and notes, resembles Rheianne’s own nature of flowing from one topic of conversation to another. She has, in a sense, gravitated towards the violin as part of her identity.
