The Health Services Office is alerting the public on the upsurge of dengue fever cases in Baguio City. The most affected age group is 11 to 20 years old. Out of 128 barangays, 𝟖𝟑 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬, prompting 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
Dengue fever, a mosquito-borne illness caused by the dengue virus, has seen a marked rise in Baguio City due to several factors: including seasonal changes relative to humidity, average temperature, and continuous rain which led to the creation of stagnant water bodies that serve as breeding sites for mosquitoes. Additionally, the buildup of trash and discarded open containers creates perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes, while inconsistent use of preventive measures in households aggravate the issue.
In response to the recent increase, 𝐰𝐞 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧-𝐮𝐩 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬. Standing water, whether inside or outside our homes, can serve as breeding grounds for 'Aedes' mosquitoes. By eliminating any open containers or sources of stagnant water, we can significantly reduce mosquito populations and help reduce dengue cases. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our community safe and healthy.
