Good afternoon Learners

For today one of us created a speech on how Academic Validation has affected them. We hope that all of you will read and will like it.

To you my dear reader
you may not know me and well I may not know you…
But if I could be so bold I would like to ask for a minute of your time
Truth be told I have been staring at this blank sheet of paper for a while now before I started writing. It’s already 2:03 in the morning, my eyes are hurting and I keep yawning nearly every minute. My pens and crumpled pieces of papers filled with failed attempts are scattered everywhere, my computer with so many tabs open shone a light in my dark room. I sigh and groan for the millionth time today as my mind is empty on the correct words to write but I must not stop now. This paper has to be perfect, it has to have a high score and it needs to be at the top because if it is not then I have committed the most despicable crime. If my parents or teachers do not tell me that I have done a great job then I must’ve done something terribly wrong. So I cannot stop now as I must have this paper perfect and God forbid I do not fail because if I do, I would be worth nothing. I remember the nights before tests I have studied a lot but also I cried, I mentally broke down, I had panic attacks but anything for the grades. The morning before the test I was still studying, I had no sleep, I was exhausted, my eyes are stinging and I skipped breakfast but anything for my grades.

That has been me for quite some time now and there is more to it of course as it is not the full story though I am not telling you this to receive some kind of pity or attention. I told you this because I got so sucked in on trying to achieve high grades, best results, and high awards just to feel something, to feel like I was accepted. I am telling you this because you recognize that feeling too, don’t you? Sure, your situation, story, reasons may be different but you have felt that feeling too. Well, hey, it’s okay to strive to be the best, to be on top. Heck, it feels great to be the best, to be on top but just like everything in life, it’s not good when you overdo things. I am not saying that wanting to be the best is bad but you should be doing it for yourself and not for everyone else’s approval or recognition that can disappear in a mere second. And I know… I know having this high grades puts high expectations on you and once you slip a little everyone starts asking you why are you down there and not up in your pedestal as usual. Why are you not up there with the good kids with a promising future? Why are you not up there with the brilliant kids who listens to information rather than letting it go on the other ear? You can’t be trash because you need to be perfect and only then will you have a true worth. They ask these questions and say these words to every mistake that was made. From a young age we have been told on what we need to do and what we need to be, go to school, get the best grades, be on top and remember that there are no room for mistakes. From day one it is drilled into our heads that we have to know who we should become with zero life experience and our main goal in life is to get that degree and earn money cause that’s what makes them proud and anything else is just a waste of time. We let ourselves be controlled because it’s what they say guidance then we wait until they judge and define us and our worth by some written numbers on a paper. We start believing that we are not good enough because we haven’t met their expectations. We start to gravitate towards that, to try and meet the expectations they have put towards us or to try to catch their eye and it comes to a point where we forget about ourselves, we harm ourselves just to have those satisfactory numbers on a piece of paper. Adults would say “hey! Go to this university! It doesn’t matter if you feel that it isn’t right because once you’ve graduated it will all become clear and you will thank me soon enough”

Tsk… yeah right as if it would
enter an open building that still acts like a prison, wake up in the morning, eat, study, go home, sleep then repeat. They expect us, me, you and everyone else to be these mindless machines whose only goal is to compete in a contest that crushes all hopes, dreams and passion and no one ever really wins.
Look my point is, don’t keep on going to such lengths such as letting you lose yourself just to please others or to get their approval or validation. Because this will never stop even if you have rejected who you are just for you to be who they wanted you to be, it will tire you out and the feeling of loneliness will always stick around. You will be trapped in this prison cell built with expectations by society and everyone and you will be chained to the ground by your own desire of having others approval.

But like I said earlier, I’m not saying that trying to achieve this high grades and being the best is bad but you must be doing it for yourself and not for others approval or validation. Be the best, climb to the top or claim that number one spot but don’t lose yourself. So start worrying for yourself and start taking care of yourself. I know it will be hard but you don’t have to take big steps of change. Remember to not starve yourself and remember to drink at least two to five cups of water. Also don’t forget to sleep dummy, I know it’s hard to sleep at night now but you owe it to yourself for working so hard. In case no one told you…. I am so proud of you…. And I know I may not know you personally but I do care and these words may not mean anything. Though ask yourself, what about your dreams and the courage to be your own self?
