August 4, 2024 marks the 55th year of FPOP in its continuous genuine service to the Filipino people in SRHR.
To celebrate this milestone, the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines Baguio Benguet Chapter will conduct its Medical Mission together with its partner.
See us tomorrow, August 16, 2024 (Friday) from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at Malcom Square, Baguio City and enjoy free medical services.
The second wave of Free and Confidential HIV Screening was conducted last March 15, 2024, with the help of the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) and UC CON College Student Council.
51 students from the university participated in the half-day activity. Members of FPOP also provided education and information about HIV and HIV screening. The participants received free male and female condoms after learning the result of their test.
As the first step in eliminating the stigma and negative perceptions connected with HIV testing and screening, the screening informs students of their status and encourages them to be tested without fear.
The participants were duly informed by the members of FPOP and UYAHH that all disclosed information was kept totally confidential, their identity was respected, and all data was handled with the utmost care.

Since the initial discovery of the virus, tests that aid in the diagnosis of HIV-positive individuals have grown increasingly dependable and user-friendly. As soon as 20 minutes, you can receive early findings from this screening.

UYAHH as the existing official sexuality and reproductive health hub of the University of the Cordilleras aims to empower not only the nursing students of the College of the Nursing but eventually all the different colleges to be part of the advocacy. The programs set for September are UYAHH logo contest, ASRH onboarding for all BSN 1 & 2, and the HIV screening in partnership with Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP).
The increasing cases of HIV/AIDS inspired UYAHH to organize and facilitate this program in order to increase awareness and knowledge especially among the vulnerable groups which are the young people/teenagers.
In February 2022, there were 1,054 confirmed HIV-positive individuals reported to the HIV/AIDS & ART Registry of the Philippines (HARP) and were accounted to the total (96,266) reported cases since January 1984. Moreover, 28% (297) of individuals reported in February had advanced HIV infection at the time of testing. (DOH, 2022)
Teenage pregnancy, on the other hand, also has an alarming effect in the country.
Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that adolescent birth rates were at 31 per 1,000 girls in 2020, which is lower than 47 per 1,000 based on the 2017 National Demographic Health Survey (NDHS).
In 2019, adolescent births (below 18 years old) were at 62,510. It dropped to 56,428 in 2020. The country baseline target in the Philippine Development Plan by 2022 is 37. POPCOM, on the other hand, aims to halve the baseline of 57 per 1,000 as stated in the 2013 NDHS, to 37 per 1,000 by 2022. (POPCOM, 2022)
Thus, this program will be conducted with the participation of the nursing students and faculty of the CON, particularly among young key populations are encouraged.
The University of the Cordilleras Youth and Adolescent Sexuality and Reproductive Health Hub under the UC College of Nursing will be conducting a webinar entitled "Reproductive Health Issues and Rights: Onboarding for Nursing Students " on November 30, 2022 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM through Zoom Conference and FB Live. Through this webinar, the audience will be able to gain an understanding of Adolescents Sexuality and Reproductive Health.
