2. Folate (Vitamin B9)
Folate, also called vitamin B9, is an essential water-soluble vitamin.

Some people with low levels of folate and high levels of the amino acid homocysteine may have a higher risk of stroke. Homocysteine may damage the inner walls of arteries.

Studies have shown folate supplements to be beneficial for people with low folate levels and no pre-existing heart disease. However, more research is needed to study the effects of folate on other groups, such as people with existing heart disease and those with normal folate levels.

3. Vitamin D
People with low levels of vitamin D have an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and hypertension. Vitamin D supplementation has been found to decrease blood pressure, but only in those who had both high blood pressure and a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D did not lower blood pressure in people who had high blood pressure but normal vitamin D levels.

4. Magnesium
Oral magnesium supplements have been found to lower blood pressure in people taking blood pressure medication. However, magnesium has not been shown to effectively lower blood pressure in people who already have well-controlled blood pressure.
