Recent data from the DOH-CAR Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) reveals a significant 180% increase in Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs) cases compared to last year's figures. The total cases rose from 15 to 42, with Measles-Rubella and Pertussis showing notable increase. These diseases predominantly affect areas with high numbers of unvaccinated children, posing a serious public health concern.

Furthermore, analysis indicates that the reported cases are solely those identified within health facilities, suggesting the possibility of numerous undetected cases.

DOH-CAR emphasizes the urgent need for parents to ensure their children receive vaccination promptly in the nearest health facility to prevent further spread and potential outbreaks.

Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 236,000 or 7% of all injury-related deaths per year.

In the Philippines, 3,604 people die of drowning every year, or an average of 10 Filipinos a day per WHO data. Accidental drowning and submersion are likewise among the leading causes of deaths among children per 2021 Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) data.

This Drowning Prevention Month, be water smart! Let us do our part for our children to safely enjoy their water-related activities with no incidents of drowning.
