Kanlaon is a stratovolcano in the north central part of the island of Negros. It has two summit cones, each with a crater. Silay, a Holocene stratovolcano is the northern most cone on the island (obscured by clouds). Mandalagan, also a Holocene stratovolcano, has a small plume on clouds off its summit to the southeast (to the bottom left). Kanlaon is near the center of the north part of the island.
Kanlaon has 19 historic eruptions between 1866 and 1993. The eruptions are small to moderate in size (VEI=1-2) and explosive.
Kanlaon volcano (also spelled Kanlaon), the most active of the central Philippines, forms the highest point on the island of Negros. The massive 2435-m-high stratovolcano is dotted with fissure-controlled pyroclastic cones and craters, many of which are filled by lakes. The summit of Canlaon contains a broad elongated northern caldera with a crater lake and a smaller, but higher, historically active crater to the south. The largest debris avalanche known in the Philippines traveled 33 km to the SW from Canlaon. Historical eruptions, recorded since 1866, have typically consisted of phreatic explosions of small-to-moderate size that produce minor ashfalls near the volcano.

BAGUIO CITY- Joins the nation in the celebration of the 2024 National Women's Month with this year's localized theme, "Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!"

Building on the momentum of the 2023 theme "WE for gender equality and inclusive society," the 2024 National Women's Month celebration will carry this theme forward. This theme serves to reaffirm the ongoing commitment to advocating for gender equality and builds upon the successes achieved under the 2016-2022 theme, "WE Make CHANGE Work for Women."

The National Women's Month Celebration has its roots in the recognition of International Women's Day (IWD) on Marth 8th. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality. The day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. The month of March is used as an opportunity to raise awareness about gender equality issues, and to call for action to accelerate progress towards achieving gender equality in all aspects of life.

Magalong this morning ordered intensified measures to address the health emergency which included the conduct of massive testing of water sources including water delivery companies and deepwells.

Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) police investigators were also tapped to assist the Baguio City Health Service Office and Baguio Water District personnel in speeding up data gathering and water testing operations in the ongoing investigation to determine the root cause of the upsurge.

As of 11 a.m. today, Jan. 10, 2024, the CHSO said they have received a total of 1,602 incident reports with 218 affected establishments and 80 affected households.

Food establishments had been advised to refrain from serving tap and filtered water and serve only purified water to their customers while households were told to use purified water or boiled tap water and to bring their own water when eating out. - APR/MTE-PIO Baguio
