The Story Behind “Footprints In The Sand”

There is a story behind this famous poem. The writer, Margaret Fishback Powers, lost ownership of her poem when she gave copies of her poem in a wedding. The poem was copied and sold by many people, becoming a worldwide bestseller.

For many years, Margaret did not receive any money for her poem, and she felt angry and sad. She cried, “Why did God allow her poem to be used by so many people for profit?” She even called the assistance of a lawyer. Finally, after many years, companies recognized her as the writer, and paid her some dues.

For me, it is very clear why God allowed the poem to “lose” its copyright. This was for God's message to reach as many people as possible.
Margaret's story is also my inspiration as to why I have given all my health articles for FREE, without copyright. So that my articles can be shared (in Facebook) to as many people as possible.

Here is the poem by Margaret Fishback Powers:

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.

After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.

This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."

Every morning is a chance to forget the pains of yesterday, and see the change of a brand new day. To dance and laugh again, to make up for the wrong things done. And most of all, It's God's reminder that He is sending another blessing called 'LIFE.'
