It's been a few days since Typhoon Carina (which intensified as super typhoon an hour ago today) entered our country. The safety of ourselves and our loved ones should be the top priority more than anything else.

And yes, this includes our PAWmilies.

According to a survey in 2023, 64% of Filipino households have pets at home, while about 13 million cats and dogs are staying in the streets, relying on themselves to survive. The struggle we experience during stormy days is different from our furry friends. Even just the sound of thunder is enough to make them tremble because of their sensitive hearing.

If you have a PAWmily member, make sure you comfort it when the thunder roars. If you have a fur baby, don't let it stay outside while the rain falls, for it may CATch a cold. If you see a stray pet outside while the sky pours, have an AWWtomatic response by providing it with a temporary shelter. And if it's time to evacuate, make sure you bring your best FURiend with you.

Compassion to some kind is not compassion at all. As this stormy weather continues, let's practice humanity by giving love and care not just to mankind but to every being. Ang ating mga alaga at kahit yung mga pagala-gala, lahat sila ay may halaga.

The province of Aklan accounted for the highest tourism revenues in 2023 at P44.43 billion recording P886, 283 tourist arrivals.

Rain is not just WATER for some.

After a series of dealing with extreme heat in our country, some of us find the rain refreshing, comfortable, and the best time to sleep. Unfortunately, it's not the same for everyone.

In 2024, about 4.5 million people are still homeless in the Philippines. Among them are an estimated 250,000 children roaming in the streets. Because of their homelessness, some of them managed to create temporary shelters by using cartons, plastics, or anything they could find in the streets.

But when the rain falls, what happens to these people? Do they find comfort too once their clothes become soaked with rain water? How can they enjoy sleep without a bed to lie on? Are these cartons and plastics enough to shelter them when the sky showers?

The rain drops may sound relaxing to some, but may also scream restlessness for others. In the same way, what we describe as peace may be described as discomfort by some individuals, most especially the homeless ones.

As we ponder about rain, may we never forget the reality of the world we live in. What is "Sa wakas, umulan na! " is "Nako po, mababasa tayo!" to other people.

Rain is not just water for some. It is a curse for them.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) secretary Enrique Manalo said on Wednesday, June 26, that the Philippines sent a note verbale to China over the Ayungin Shoal Incident, which left 7 Filipino servicemen injured on June 17.

A Philippine Navy sailor lost his thumb while others were wounded after China Coast Guard (CCG) personnel armed with knives, an axe, and sticks rammed and stopped Philippine Navy rubber boats to deliver supplies to BRP Sierra Madre.

The Ayungin Shoal is located 105 nautical miles west of Palawan within the 200-mile exclusive economic zone of the Philippines, which China calls “Ren’ai Reef.”
