Human resource management students from MMSU bagged multiple awards in both academic and non-academic tilts during the 20th Junior People Management Association of the Philippines (JPMAP) National Convention and 5th JPMAP Awards on October 26-27 at Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central, Binondo, Manila.
The MMSU team clinched championship titles in multiple categories: HR Program Design, Promotional Video, and Spoken Poetry. The winning teams comprised of Arabella Benigno, Nika Hermano, Jenny Garcia, and Martin Melryngem Lucas for the HR Program Design; Trish Denielle Tunay, Jekyle Sera, Jasmine Mei Basamot, Mary Jane Guimyen, Nicole Ashley Balbalosa, Pearl Ivy Margarette Gonzales, and Ivy Dianne Franco for the Promotional Video; and Mary Jane Guimayen for Spoken Poetry.
Ms. Garcia, member of the HR Program Design team, expressed her gratitude for the support and preparation provided by the faculty. โOur late-night reviews and lack of sleep to prepare for the competitions truly paid off. We were fortunate to secure victories. Despite feeling anxious and overwhelmed before each competition, the support from our advisers and teammates kept us going.โ
MMSU also excelled in various categories. Cyvil Viernes, Trish Denielle Tunay, and Kaezle Damo placed 1st runner-up in the quiz bowl; Rhea A. Failogna, Mary Jane Guimayen, and Ivy Dianne Franco ranked 2nd runner-up in case analysis; and Carmeliza Asuncion won 2nd runner-up in the essay writing contest.
Furthermore, Alfredo Guttierez won first place and Jacquelyn Ampania placed 1st runner-up in the 2024 Search for JPMAP Ambassador. Additionally, Rhea Failogna was recognized as the Most Outstanding Member School Officer and Arabella Benigno as the National Convention Most Active Delegate.
The MMSU students were guided by their coaching team, including Dr. Margarita Hilario, Prof. Don McCartney Tugaoen, Prof. Krismary Sharmaine Yapo, Ms. Sarah Jane Inay, Ms. Kristina Tugaoen, and Mr. Jerson Coloma.
Ms. Tugaoen, JPMAP-MMSU Chapter adviser, shared her pride in the studentsโ accomplishments: โOur studentsโ rigorous preparation and dedication were evident with each award announcement. I couldnโt be prouder that we brought home multiple victories. This achievement reflects both the studentsโ hard work and our collective commitment to their success,โ she expressed.
With the theme โReaching Zenith: Sustaining Momentum in Navigating the Changing HR Landscape,โ the annual JPMAP convention is a platform for students nationwide to work jointly, exchange ideas, and contribute to the evolving field of human resource management.โ

The Junior Association of Hospitality Practitioners (JAHP) - MMSU Chapter has been recognized as the 7th Most Outstanding School Organization by the Junior Tourism and Hospitality Management Association of the Philippines (JTHMAP). The award was presented on October 16 during JTHMAP's 5th Anniversary celebration held at the Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila.
Representing JAHP were Mr. Gabrielle John Feria and Ms. Divine Corrine Rapacon, both third-year hospitality management students and former JAHP officers. They presented to the national body the organizationโs accomplishments and commitment to developing future leaders in the hospitality industry.
Mr. Feria earned recognition as an apprentice in the Information Technology Committee of JTHMAP for Academic Year 2023-2024. The awards were received alongside JAHPโs adviser, Ms. Kathleen Kay Tomas, a faculty member of the MMSU College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy.
Reflecting on their presentation Mr. Feria shared, โWe were asked to share best practices of our organization, so we focused on our signature initiative: โJAHP at Your Service.โ This program provides members with hands-on exposure to the hospitality industry, preparing them to become excellent professionals.โ
Meanwhile, Ms. Tomas expressed gratitude for the dedication shown by the officers and members, stating, โThis recognition is a testament to the commitment of our officers and the support of our members. I hope this accomplishment inspires our current officers to aim even higher in their service to the community.โ
With the theme โHIGH FIVE JTHMAP: Celebrating Five Years of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality,โ the event brought together various school organizations across the Philippines, underscoring the importance of excellence in hospitality education and the growth of student leaders.

On October 20, 2024, the CBEA team proudly secured 3rd place out of 10 contender colleges in the university at the Project BUKEL 2024 pitch competition! The project, rooted in an idea by ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฑ๐ข๐ ๐๐ก๐จ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ and further crafted with the support of ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฒ ๐. ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฅ๐๐จ and ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ฌ ๐. ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ, who also served as the presenters, stood out for its innovative approach to sustainability.
Their initiative, "Papel Mo, Pera Mo: Rags to Riches", addresses paper waste on campus by establishing a recycling system that transforms discarded paper into useful products like recycled newsprint and eco-friendly paper bags. This not only promotes environmental sustainability but also generates funds for student programs and community projects. By turning waste into valuable resources, the project fosters a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and responsibility among students, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ง๐๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฆ | Day 2 of the Student Leadership Conference, Project BUKEL 2024, continued to inspire and challenge student leaders to reach new heights! The day featured a lineup of impactful speakers who delved into essential topics that shape the future of leadership and sustainability.
Dr. Ariene L. Gonzales started the day with an eye-opening discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the urgent need for collective action to address global challenges. This was followed by Hon. Michael Christophe Agustin's insightful talk on Sustainable Leadership: Crafting Plans for Long-Term Goals, where he emphasized the importance of strategic thinking and perseverance in achieving lasting impact. Finally, Ms. Patricia A. Balico inspired the audience with her session on Purpose-Driven Leadership: Creating Meaningful Change in Communities, encouraging leaders to pursue initiatives that make a real difference.
The day also featured an exciting project pitching segment, where representatives from 10 different colleges showcased innovative ideas aimed at addressing pressing issues and driving sustainable development. With a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of sustainable leadership, CBEA leaders are ready to take on the world and drive positive change.
