📌Rail Fence Cipher

Ang Railfence cipher ay isang uri ng transpOsition cipher that keeps the letters the same, but rearranges their order according to a specific algorithm.
So what is rail fence cipher *Rail Fence Cipher is a transposition cipher, which rearranges the plaintext letters by drawing them in a way that they form a shape of the rails of an imaginary fence.

It was invented in ancient times. It was used by the Greeks, who created a special tool, called scytale, to make message encryption and decryption easier. Currently, it is usually used with a piece of paper. The letters are arranged in a way which is similar to the shape of the top edge of the rail fence.
It was also called a Zigzag Cipher, a form of transposition cipher. It derives its name from the way in which it is encoded.

Example:
Encryption
Plaintext : "good evening po"
Key = 3
Ciphertext : geioodvnnpoeg

Encryption:
In the rail fence cipher, the plain-text is written downwards and diagonally on successive rails of an imaginary fence. When we reach the bottom rail, we traverse upwards moving diagonally, after reaching the top rail, the direction is changed again. Thus the alphabets of the message are written in a zig-zag manner. After each alphabet has been written, the individual rows are combined to obtain the cipher-text.

Decryption:
As we’ve seen earlier, the number of columns in rail fence cipher remains equal to the length of plain-text message. And the key corresponds to the number of rails.Hence, rail matrix can be constructed accordingly. Once we’ve got the matrix we can figure-out the spots where texts should be placed (using the same way of moving diagonally up and down alternatively ).Then, we fill the cipher-text row wise. After filling it, we traverse the matrix in zig-zag manner to obtain the original text.

Implementation:
Let cipher-text = “Geio odvnpo eg” ,
and Key = 3
Number of columns in matrix = len(cipher-text) = 13
Number of rows = key = 3

Hence original matrix will be of 3*13 , now marking places with text as ‘*’ we get.
* _ _ _ * _ _ _ * _ _ _ *
_ * _ * _ * _ * _ * _ *
_ _ * _ _ _ * _ _ _ * _

Another, More complex Rail Fence Ciphers have more “rails”. For instance instead of writing the code over two lines (“rails”) you can write over three or four or more lines depends on you, if you like. The number of lines used in a Rail Fence Cipher is called the key. That's all.

If you have any questions about the discussion now or the previous discussion, just ask.

📌Kinds of Ciphers

Here are some useful categories of ciphers. Note that a particular cipher may belong to more than one of these categories.

•Classical :A cipher easy enough to be performed by hand, usually character based. Also called manual.

•Modern : Pretty much any cipher that isn't classical.

•Substitution : Each character of the plaintext is replaced with one or more characters to make the cipher text.

•Transposition : Characters in the plaintext are rearranged to form the cipher text.

•Monoalphabetical : A substitution cipher in which character of the plaintext is always replaced by the same character.

•Polyalphabetic : A substitution cipher that essentially uses multiple monoalphabetic substitutions mappings.

•Homophonic : A substitution in which one character can map to one of a set of characters.

•Polygraphic : A substitution of blocks of characters for blocks of characters.

•Periodic : A polyalphabetic cipher in which the replacement scheme repeats.

•Non-Periodic : Self-explanatory of you understand periodic.

•Block : Encryption takes places not per character but per blocksof characters.

•Stream : A cipher operating on a data stream to unknown length, usually incorporating feedback.

•Secret Key : A cipher in which (Ke)and (Kd) are the same or trivially derivable from one another; requires the partiesto meet in secret to exchange the keys they'll be using . Also called symmetric.

•Public Key : A scheme in which everyone's encryption key is publicly known but their decryption key is kept secret. Also called asymmetric.

Some of the best-known homicide detectives in TV and film – and perhaps the inspiration behind your contemplation of becoming one yourself.

If you really are considering this career path, then you might want to know a thing or two more about what the job is really like, how much it pays and, basically, how to become a homicide detective.

Working Hours and Conditions

Working as a homicide detective is no ordinary 9-to-5 job. Murders happen at all times of the day, meaning you’ll work at all times of the day. You can expect long hours, working during the evening, on weekends and overtime.

It’s a physically, mentally and emotionally demanding profession. You’ll not only have to often deal with gruesome and stomach-churning crime scenes, where victims can be adult criminals or innocent children, but you’ll also have to deal with grieving loved ones.

While most of your work will be conducted in the field, you will also spend time in an office writing reports.

It should also be noted that this is also a dangerous profession as confrontation with suspects is common. The job comes with a great deal of personal risk or injury, including death.

Moreover, there is much scientific reporting on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with homicide detectives, as well as high su***de rates.

Salary Prospects

The average starting salary for detectives in the UK is £24,000 and up to £35,000. Their earnings gradually increase to £45,000 as detective sergeants and up to £50,000 as highly experienced detective inspectors.

In the United States, the median annual salary for all detective and criminal investigators is $78,120, according to official government statistics.

2. Get the Qualifications

In order to become a homicide detective in the US, you’ll need to first serve as a police officer. You’ll generally need to meet the following requirements:

Be at least 21 years of age

Be a legal citizen of the US

Pass a criminal background check

Hold a driving licence

Be in good physical health

You might also be asked to pass an aptitude or induction test.

Meanwhile, you may be able to find online training courses to become qualified as a detective.

3. Land Your First Job

The first step to becoming a homicide detective in the US involves securing employment as a police officer or sheriff’s deputy and gaining experience in a patrol capacity for a number of years.

You’ll generally start working in other areas of investigation such as auto theft, robbery and larceny.

You can find relevant opportunities online through sites like PoliceOne and USAJOBS, as well major job boards including our very own FindEmployment.

If you’re in the UK, check out the College of Policing for more information about vacancies in England and Wales. Alternatively, visit the Metropolitan Police website for job opportunities with the Met.

If becoming a homicide detective doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, but still want to become a detective, you may want to consider the following routes:

Arson

Assault and battery

Auto theft

Burglary

Computer crime

Domestic violence

Fraud

Juvenile crime

Missing persons

Narcotics

Organised crime

Columbia Southern University

Norwich University

University of Wisconsin-Platteville

Ongoing training is necessary for any homicide detective, and includes re-certification or courses in law enforcement skills and procedures. Many law enforcement agencies, professional associations and third party organisations offer continuing education classes, seminars and training workshops.

Through experience and continuing education, you may be able to advance in rank within your department. For example, you could go on to oversee the work of lower ranking detectives and regular police offers.

As a detective working in the UK, you could work your way up to chief inspector and then superintendent, and on to assistant chief constable and chief constable. You might also consider finding work for the security services like the MI5 and MI6 (from Sherlock Holmes to James Bond), the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and the Ministry of Defence.

🗂(How to Become) AHuman Lie Detector - Lie Detection Tips

Everybody lies. It's a universal human characteristic. Whether you're a good person who'll tell a lie not to hurt your friend's feelings, to a cheating spouse, to spies and superheroes, we lie. But we all wish no one would lie to us. You're here because you're one of those people who hate being lied to and want to know how to become a human lie detector.

According to Webster's Dictionary, a lie is a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive. People lie for a variety of reasons, sometimes with nefarious intentions and other times with wholesome intentions. It could be to maintain a secret, to protect someone from harm, to protect someone's self-esteem from getting hurt, to avoid punishment, to lead someone astray, to damage someone, etc.

All lies are not the same, there are different types of lies. Here are a few:

- Omission- Half truths, when one tells the truth but leave out important points

- Bluff- Pretending to have or not have something. Poker players do this to throw off other players

- Exaggeration- Stretching the truth.

- Perjury- Lying under oath or affirmation in a court of law. A serious felony

- White lie- Minor lie that gives comfort to the recipient. If you plan on living among other people in a society, you're going to have to commit this lie many times.

- Bold-Face- an obvious and unbelievable lie

- Fabrication- giving a statement as true despite not knowing whether or not it actually is true.

- Noble lie- told when the overall benefit of having a lie is greater on a grander scale than knowing the truth (e.g. Ozymandias' plan at the end of Watchmen).

And the list goes on. These are some signals liars give off when lying. Pick up on these signals and you have a good chance of spotting a liar.

- Avoid answering your question by deflecting it with a truth. E.g. Q."Did you take my hot dog?" A."I hate hot dogs, why would I take yours."
Stiff body movements and gestures. Kept close to body

- More than average sweating. (Could also be a sign of nervousness from shyness/diffidence)

- Too much information. Telling too much may be a desperate attempt to get you to believe them.

- Unusual eye movement. This doesn't mean avoid eye contact. Truthful people also avoid eye contact from time to time. Right handed people usually look to the left when coming up with a lie and reverse with left-handed people.

- Verbal and facial expressions are mismatched.

- Liars usually go on the defensive when asked a question. They want to convince you of their "honesty".

- Liars might look away or put an object between you when asked a question

- Lies come either very quickly (as they were already thinking of the "answer" before you asked) or very slowly (as they are having a quick mental review and coming up with the lie)

- Liars tend to use your exact words and phrases in the answer (e.g. Q."Did you sleep with my man" A."No, I did not sleep with your man.")
Speaking monotone

- Using no pronouns or contractions

- Avoiding direct answers (like politicians)

- Joking around with the subject to lower the tension

- Their responses are usually emotionally vapid, don't resonate emotionally because liars are always trying to convince you using logic and reason, not emotion.

These are some tips on how to trap a liar:

- Ask leading questions. Questions that suggests the answer or contains the information the examiner is looking for. 98% yes or no answers and are never open ended. Not loaded questions (i.e implicit assumptions.) E.g. "Did you play poker last week?"

- Allow awkward silences into the conversation. A liar will become unnerved

- Listen to the tone of their voice. High or shifting pitched voice are a good tell tale sign the person is fibbing.

- Change the subject suddenly. A honest person will be confused, but a liar will be relieved the interrogation is over.

Now while all these points can help you become a human lie detector, don't forget that everyone is different as are the ways they tell a lie or a truth. There is no silver bullet, though knowing a person well enough gives you the advantage of knowing his/her characteristics.

🗂️Ways to Make Money by Becoming a Detective 👌🏻

Getting into the criminal justice field can be a rewarding experience. There are countless options to choose from. Some feel that becoming a detective is an exciting and rewarding way to give back to their community. Others feel that if you become a private eye that you are not only infringing on other's lives, but that you are also endangering your own life. But that is an individual choice and I leave that up to each person to decide.

So in going with the flow in the field of criminal justice let's explore some of the options that are available to each and every one of you.

1) You can make money as an identity theft person. Identity theft is increasingly becoming a big issue for many people. And by cracking down on this crime you can help to save so many lives.

2) This may sound incredibly weird by becoming a detective you can help catch someone's cheating spouse in the act. Cheating has become a rising infraction in our society. And with the rise of technology and the internet cheating is all to easy to do. Think about the online chat rooms. Why do you think so many married don't go for the traditional route of cheating as in the old days. These day men go online to cheat on their spouse and it gets harder to trace, depending on the depth and skill level of the person who is investigating. So if you become a private eye and specialize in this area of expertise, you can help to crack down on this issue. If you have skills in computer software and networking you can combine this with tradition and help to clear up cases faster, especially when you know where to look.

3) You can also do pre-employment background checks especially with small businesses. Small businesses don't have the money or the staff do the background checks like they want or need to. So by hiring someone help them out they can references a person's education, work and personal background. They can also do criminal checks on the person. When a company goes to hire someone they need to know that they are making the right choice. So by hiring a private detective they can erase that doubt.

These are just some ideas of what you can get into in this field. Just pick the one that you are most passionate about and what feels most right to you, and then go for it. Goodluck

🗂️How to Become a Detective - Criminal Justice Programs

For the most part people might not know how a person becomes a criminal investigator or a detective. Even though they are interested in pursuing such a career, they may also be scared to find out what it takes. However, just like any professional career choice there are training and of course education needs that must be met. The process, thankfully, is not a difficult one and with the correct commitment and motivation anyone can become one. The information that follows is a short overview of what an individual can expect and the process that needs to be completed before they can go on to be a criminal investigator or detective.

Of course, an education is needed before you can go on. An individual would need to have completed a certain level of education such as a high school diploma, a college degree or a GED. If at college a program in criminal justice is ideal as this will provide you with the necessary skills and information that will help to be a successful detective. Of course, it may be an idea to check what types of programs you would need to take before starting your course. This way you can cover all the initial requirements before realizing too late that you need something else.
As mentioned above you will need to complete a certain level of education as every police department has a different level of education requirement. A prospective detective will also need to pass a physical fitness test, a written exam and undergo a thorough background criminal check. They need to also be at least 21 years old.

After the application has been approved, you should then concentrate on the police academy. While there, trainees will be skilled in the required skills that are necessary in order to maintain a safe community while also keeping yourself safe. An individual can expect the academy to be tough. This is when a trainee will need to show their strength and determination if they want to make it to the end of the training. Training can take up to eight months. During the day, individuals can expect them to be long with physical training, Emergency Vehicle Operations and fire arms courses.
In order for an individual to succeed to the stage of becoming a detective, the trainee needs to complete their training. Once that is completed, they will then move to the next stage of becoming a police officer. After period of probation and their performance has met or even exceeding what the department expected of them, they will reap the rewards of a promotion. However, the probation period can vary from as little as six month to three years.

However, it is important to remember that just because an individual is on a trial period, does not mean they are any less of a police officer. However long on the trial period, the police officer will be learning skills that will help, and better prepare them when they eventually become a detective. Being a police officer is constant job training. Everything they do will only better what they want to be and bring that promotion just that bit closer than the day before.

After you have finally achieved that longed for promotion to detective, you can expect to be allocated to a precise crime unit. You may be working in robbery or burglary, sexual crimes, or even the homicide division.

The typical salary a detective can make, which was estimated in May of 2006 was just over $58,000. The lowest pay is less than $34,000, while the highest for a detective position is over $92,000. This all depends on where you are situation and the department budgets. However, an extremely lucrative job once you are trained in the field.

🗂️Become a Detective Explained

Detectives are police officers who have gained the experience and training necessary to investigate crimes. Their responsibilities include interviewing suspects and witnesses, collecting evidence, conducting surveillance, finding and arresting suspects, writing reports, and testifying at trials.

Detectives may specialize in different types of crime and investigation, including narcotics, internal affairs, traffic accidents, or homicide. More experienced detectives may also supervise and train other police officers.

What kind of training is required to become a detective?

Becoming a detective requires both experience and training. The promotional ladder in police departments is strictly defined, and new police officers must be promoted within their own rank before they can try to become detectives. Most police departments require officers to gain four or five years of experience and pass a written exam before they can move on to a detective position. Some police departments also require prospective detectives to complete a certain number of hours of college coursework.

New detectives may attend a detective or investigator training program through their police department to learn how to interview witnesses, collect evidence, gather intelligence, and work with informants.

Are there any certification or licensure requirements?

Police officers who are becoming detectives should already hold a law enforcement certification from their state. In many states, that original certification is valid throughout an officer’s career as long as it is maintained properly. Other states have certification grades that depend on education and experience, and some offer special investigator certifications.

How long does it take to become a detective?

Becoming a police officer requires about six months of training, and officers must typically gain four or five years or experience before they can take a promotional exam to become a detective. Some police departments allow officers to substitute a college degree for a year of experience.

What does a detective earn?

The median yearly pay for detectives and criminal investigators in the United States was $74,300 in 2012.

What are the job prospects?

Employment growth for police and detectives is not expected to be strong over the next several years, but because of the promotional process that police departments use, officers must already hold a job to become detectives.

Detectives who want to transfer to other police departments should have better prospects the more training and experience they have.

What are the long term career prospects for detectives?

New detectives can, with additional experience, gain promotions within their rank. Higher-rank detectives can supervise other detectives and police officers, review the work of other police officers, and lead investigations on important cases.

Detectives can also earn promotions to the rank of lieutenant, captain, commander, and deputy chief. Each successive promotion brings with it greater management responsibilities in the police department. Detectives may, after promotion, lead patrol divisions or specialty units like the homicide, narcotics, or sexual assault unit.

How can I find a job as a detective?

You can become a police detective only if you are currently working for a police department. If you are a detective looking for a new job, contact other police departments to find out what their requirements are for lateral transfer. Most police departments accept transfers only from officers who have a certain amount of recent working experience.

Transferring within your own state may be easier, as you will already hold the required certification for your state. If you transfer to a police department in another state, you will most likely have to complete some extra training and meet that state’s certification requirements.

How can I learn more about becoming a detective?

Many police departments publish information about their promotional ladder and promotional requirements on their websites.

Police departments are often very committed to community outreach, so you may be able to meet with detectives and learn about their daily responsibilities and the challenges of their job.
