Today marks the 123rd anniversary of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, which was established after the Second Philippine Commission passed Act No. 136, entitled “An Act Providing for the Organization of Courts in the Philippine Islands.”

The establishment of the Supreme Court in 1901 replaced the Royal Audencia and had Cayetano Arellano as its first Chief Justice.
