In regards to the overwhelming queries to the poker room, we feel that silence is irresponsible and wish to officially post this comment, in support to the currently considered policy for Boracay and it’s regulated gaming activities.

The group investing in Boracay in 2017 is no coincidence as we believed in this incorruptible administration and regulator and trusted our lawful documentation obtained years ago was indeed legally valid as per requirements clearly illustrated to any investor to regulated gaming in the Philippines.

Our opening of said entertainment venue was indeed satisfying, true to word without irregularities and enticed further investment to this segment.

Moving forward it seems however as part of the much needed “forced Boracay rehabilitation” sacrifices that many supporters need to endure, we too at Boracay poker seem to be a part of it.

Although there are talks in the media and comments from the DOJ regarding a requirement for EO, in where investment(s) made to date would be considered or reimbursed, for us we can simply rescind or move said business as cancellation of any PAGCOR issued license without fault to the licensee/operator has never happened in its history as far as we can recollect.

To be clear, our “regulated gambling (house vs player) type of pc games” was an addition as we saw Baccarat junkets operating in other hotels.

Our main aim now is ONLY to provide a legal venue for the non gambling skill game favourite past time game of POKER. Poker is not gambling so maybe it will be allowed but it’s not the time to say anything one way or another although we feel sadden by the 50 staff that had sustainable employment. As in all great things sacrifices are always part of it. The president says no gambling so be it.

In Davao there is a poker room so maybe poker is ok ? Maybe Boracay can have one too? Hope is all we got now ^^.

Perhaps this is part of our contribution to the rehabilitation of Boracay. China didn’t get that way in a short time by listening to every small issue. They wiped out whole cities. Now they are number one on earth.

Getting back to the poker - For obvious reasons we are hopeful that the poker aspect can be saved and are awaiting for after the holidays to further revisit this issue in 2019.

Good or bad,, we are the only one poker room on earth with this issue. We will however cooperate and adhere with any directive that may perhaps come in the new year.

In our departing message for the year, we ask :

As in anywhere on earth, if regulated gaming is not available, the activities tend to go underground which itself breeds issues of corruption.

Gaming in its regulated form, is one aspect to draw a higher spending per tourist goal which is the only way if policy is not to make Boracay a low end mass market packed like sardines.

From hearing initially they would put soil to promote farming tourism to the lately the more feasible model of LESS PAX / HIGH SPENDING tourist business model sounds more sane.

As we are Pagcor regulated, which is the oldest and most experienced regulator in Asia, we have no choice except to just wait for their official notice.

To be clear : as far as we know, PAGCOR has never canceled a license without fault to licensee and we hope that perhaps that important people in govt will agree that poker will not hurt the environment or Boracay.

Until then we wish everyone a safe and lucky holiday season and hopefully we see you in 2019.

Although we just arrived to Boracay end of 2017, we at Boracay Poker see Interesting and welcome developments in this total closure. Indeed when we received our LONO was way back many years ago when it was cleaner and we actually liked the place and visited the island at times.

Fast forward to 2017- 2018, we trust this administration and move forward to open and to our dismay the island is a disaster and been to the island only 3 hours as it was hell and the water seems “thick” ... smelled not sea, but like Manila bay! Of course concerns are voiced but new mayor was already in motion and was actively seeking assistance to central govt to fix many issues he inherited from previous... so he is probably happy this large scale clean up is finally taking place.

As one could observe, the needed rehabilitation and revamp of roads and many many other issues etc are WAY TOO BIG for the local officials (LGU) in both scale and $$ to handle. It’s proposed budget of this cleanup and DRASTIC MEASURE is proof of SAID TASK. Could the current, or even previous LGU done this? The obvious only answer is no.

One wonders why if this president can just DO IT and other PAST presidents or administrations ignored this problem till now... AND, If indeed Boracays contribution is 1% of this nations GDP, it should get close to 1% of national budget to build it into a world class destination ..... perhaps entry fee is key as if they don’t remit the govt share properly why would the govt spend in return..? Well it’s getting it now ! ^^.

To those who criticize this closure : this is a great move and perhaps was needed to stop mass economically motivated seasonal migration from the recently troubled region, force the digitalization for the island port entry fees and reporting to ensure the distribution of said funds is
Implemented correctly as mandated, creating adequate infrastructure so the island can cater to the UPSCALE client which it will need when limited numbers are to be allowed on the island ... AND of course to CLEAN THE MESS...

One must wonder ... Now we have told the world our supposed best island is super dirty. What does that say about the rest of this country? Surely a counter measure to offset this international image is being planned .

IDEA contribution : while we are at this clean up mode, and since everyone likes to be REACTIVE, (do something after the fact and not act to prevent) Phillipines should enact law to add 1 -2 peso plastic tax for all plastic wrapped products and take that 1 peso to fund and sponsor “ ocean cleaning “ and capture river trash prior to it flowing into the ocean. Be original, shock the world, and it will be a incredibly positive image building measure for our 7000 plus island economy and nation. Manufacturers post govts eco logo and show they are eco cooperator and it’s a win win.

As for the room : Pagcor compliance team came, chips put away, and we are set to reopen when closure has been completed.
