NEUST Honor Society Calls for Membership and Application for Recognition for BOTH SEMESTERS OF A.Y. 2023-2024

NHS will now have an OFFLINE APPLICATION for a more accurate collection of application documents. And since we are going to have an offline application, the application for membership and application for recognition will be conducted at the same time. ALL THE 1st TO 3rd YEAR STUDENTS OF A.Y. 2023-2024 WHO MET THE QUALIFICATIONS STATED BELOW ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. The documents you will submit will be used for the verification of your Application for Membership and Application for Recognition so make sure that you will SUBMIT BOTH OF YOUR COG AND COR FOR BOTH SEMESTERS if you are qualified on both semesters, together with the other requirements needed.

For your convenience, the NHS will be installing drop boxes on every campus' and off-campus' OAR. PLEASE SECURE YOUR DOCUMENTS IN A MAIL ENVELOPE BEFORE DROPPING IT IN OUR DROP BOXES to avoid loss of your documents. INCOMPLETE SUBMISSION/INCORRECT SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS WILL RENDER YOUR APPLICATION, VOID. Don't miss this opportunity to have your hard work and accomplishments officially recognized.

The program started with a cultural performance by the ADIBAI IP Youth Organization, followed by a Press briefing with the University President, Dr. Rhodora R. Jugo, Vice President of Research Extension and Training, Dr. Rachael R. Moralde, Head of NEUST-ReCIPE, Dr. Vilma R. Ramos and the Provincial Officer of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Nueva Ecija Provincial Office (NEPO), Dr. Donato B. Bumacas.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | 𝐂𝐏𝐀𝐃𝐌 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲

On July 30, 2024, the NEUST College of Public Administration and Disaster Management (CPADM) hosted a webinar entitled ‘From Risk to Resilience: Global Perspectives on Building Sustainable Cities and Communities’ on July 30, 2024, to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and practices, focusing on improving preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in urban settings.

This webinar, joined by participants from the local and international SUCs, agencies, public and private organizations, and local government units; invited local and international experts in disaster and risk reduction management.

Ms. Faye Andal from the Philippines introduced the application "OpenStreetMap," a tool designed to assess disaster risks like floods in urban areas. This app allows volunteers worldwide to update real-time information, enhancing community preparedness and awareness before disasters occur. Ms. Andal explained how OpenStreetMap functions, enabling communities to take proactive measures in disaster risk reduction.

Mr. Daniel Starosta Rubio from USA, emphasized that there is no natural disaster if preparation and acceptance are present. His talk on the social dynamics of disaster risk and resilience highlighted key areas such as integrating disaster risk awareness into daily routines and cultural norms, advocating for informed and adaptive building practices, and promoting deeper connections to the natural world to respect and adapt to its hazards. Rubio stressed the importance of active measures to adapt community practices, sometimes necessitating forceful changes to ensure a resilient future.

Mr. Samuel Ackon from Ghana presented a case study on the Akosombo Dam flooding, focusing on the application of OpenStreetMap in managing flood risks. He discussed the primary risk factors, including hazards, exposure, and vulnerability. Mr. Ackon elaborated on how OpenStreetMap is used to map these risks and develop strategies for flooding resilience. His presentation underscored the role of comprehensive risk assessment and technology in mitigating the impacts of natural disasters.

Ms. Asmaul Husna from Indonesia shared insights on her country's disaster management strategies. Indonesia, known for its high incidence of natural disasters, has developed various awareness and preparedness measures to mitigate the impact of such events. Ms. Husna discussed community-based initiatives and government policies aimed at reducing disaster impacts, highlighting ongoing challenges and the need for continuous improvement in disaster management practices.
