P1,000 polymer bill wins ‘Banknote of the Year Award’ The P1,000 polymer banknote of the Philippines was awarded the “Banknote of the Year Award” by global non-profit organization International Banknote Society (IBS) in 2022, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said Thursday.

Nakatanggap ka ba ng may tuping 1000-Piso polymer banknote? Huwag mag-alala! Maaari itong gamiting pambayad sa pang araw-araw na transaksyon.

Katulad ng perang papel, nananatiling may halaga ang polymer banknotes kahit may tupi ito.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas North Luzon Regional Director Noel Neil Malimban ensures that using digital payments is safe.

Malimban, during the Kapihan sa Baguio on Tuesday (March 14), said that the BSP does not stop in ensuring the safety of using digital payments but they also conduct financial literacy or financial education to educate the public on how to use the various digital payment platforms in a safe way.

The BSP continues to push for digital payments. The Central Bank has set a digital payments target of 50% of all transactions and financial account ownership of 70% of all adults.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will continue to work with banks on measures to lower or waive transaction fees for small e-payments to make financial digitalization more inclusive.

"One way to make digitalization more inclusive is to make small transactions free of charge so that low-income households can be encouraged to use digital payments. If the value of the transaction is small and the charge is 15 pesos, for example, that fee is quite large relative to the transaction," BSP Governor Felipe M. Medalla said at the annual reception for the banking community hosted by the BSP at its Manila head office last Friday, 24 February.

Reducing the cost of e-payments is in line with the BSP’s Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap 2020-2023, which aims to convert half of retail payments volume into digital form and to onboard 70 percent of Filipino adults onto the formal financial system within this year.
