Imminent Tropical Depression 'Marce' Set to Enter PAR: Possible Landfall in Northern Luzon

The easterlies are currently affecting the eastern sections of Luzon and the Visayas.

As of 3:00 PM today, a tropical depression located 1,350 km east of Eastern Visayas (at coordinates 9.7°N, 138.0°E) is being monitored by PAGASA.

This tropical cyclone has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h, and is moving northwestward at a speed of 30 km/h.

The low pressure system outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is expected to approach the eastern section of Cagayan Valley by Wednesday evening (November 6) or Thursday morning (November 7), with a possible landfall over Extreme Northern Luzon or Cagayan by late Thursday or early Friday morning (November 08)

It may traverse Northern Luzon upon landfall. Alternatively, the system may recurve and not affect any parts of the country.

We can expect that the tropical depression may develop further within the next 24 hours and is likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight or tomorrow (November 4). Upon entry, it will be named "Marce."

The hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals over most parts of Luzon is a possibility, and there is a chance of landfall along the eastern coast of Luzon, particularly over Extreme Northern Luzon or Cagayan. The cyclone could escalate to Severe Tropical Storm or Typhoon category.

In terms of forecast weather conditions, Batanes and Babuyan Islands will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to northeasterly windflow, with no significant impact expected.

The Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by the easterlies, which may lead to possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms, with flash floods or landslides possible during severe thunderstorms.
