โAspin Lฬถaฬถnฬถgฬถโ
They are more than just 'lang'โthey are family.
The National Aspin Day is celebrated every August 18, officially declared by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). The term "Aspin," short for Asong Pinoy, was coined in 2007 by PAWS. This day was first celebrated on August 18, 2021, in honor of our Philippine Native Dog, Aspin, for its resilience, loyalty, and lovable behavior.
Before being known as Aspin (Asong Pinoy), the Philippine dog was referred to as Askal (Asong Kalye)โa dog living on the streets, often seen as unwanted or inferior among purebred dogs such as Shih Tzus, Retrievers, and Chihuahuas.
Fortunately, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has contributed to improving the reputation of this resilient dog. Once treated as unwanted and hated, Aspins are now known for their loyalty, intelligence, and lovable behavior.
Nonetheless, despite their new recognition, Aspins are still often undervalued and overlooked, even though they possess the same characteristics or qualities as purebred dogs. It's important to sustain the change in people's perspectives into something positive about this beautiful creature. It's vital to ensure that these wonderful dogs are appreciated for their true worth.
It's time we embrace and celebrate their true value, for they are the embodiment of the spirit of resilience, love, and loyalty that every dog owner seeks. Letโs continue to cherish and love our very own Philippine native dogs, Aspins, who deserve our respect and care.
Aspin are not just โAspin langโ, they are part of the family, and they bring smiles to every Filipino household who cherish and love them as part of the family.
Happy National Aspin Day! ๐พ

INTERNATIONAL FOREST DAY! ๐ณ๐ฟ๐๐ฑ
The International Day of Forests was established by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in 2012. Today, as nations celebrate International Forest Day with a theme: Forests and Innovation, it serves as a reminder of the importance of the forest to us humans and how we are connected to it.๐ฑ๐ณ๐๐ฟ
These are the facts that you should know about the International Forest Day:
Deforestation poses a hazard to all types of forests, including boreal, cloud, and rain forests. This day promotes the organization of local, national, and international tree-planting programs as well as other forest-related events in all countries.
Deforestation affects more than 5.2 million hectares of forest. Due to deforestation, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the Philippines has designated 784 invertebrates, 184 birds, 55 mammals, 53 reptiles, and 30 amphibians as threatened species. Included is the Philippine Eagle, the nation's national bird.๐ฆ
๐ณ
Ten mammals, twenty birds, and eight amphibian species have completely gone extinct as a result of deforestation during the last three decades.๐ซ๐ซ๐ฆฃ
The Philippines is losing 47,000 hectares of rainforest every year and has lost 60% of its forest cover in the previous 80 years. The Philippines is home to two-thirds of the planet's biodiversity, flora, and wildlife.
Celebrating International Forest Day is a reminder to us how forest is a part of our daily life. Liceans come as one as we celebrate International Forest Day! ๐๐ฑ๐ณ๐ฟ๐

Tree Growing Activity: Monthly Environmental Activityโจ
A tREECAP from last year! ๐ณ
On September 23, 2023, at Sitio Kala Kala, Tibasak, Cagayan de Oro City, the Lic-Eo directives participated in a tree-growing activity with KUSGAN volunteers, CLENRO, and more.
When the Bagyong Sendong tore across the southern Philippines in 2011, striking the main city of Cagayan de Oro, this area was severely devastated. The whole of Sitio Kala Kala was destroyed and ruined as a result of this catastrophic event. ๐ซ
With this tree planting activity, we hope this will help Sitio Kala Kala get back on track with its lovely trees and bamboo gradually spreading throughout the area.

As we welcome the fresh start of the year 2024, let us also be keen on safeguarding our fur babies. ๐
According to a survey from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, "Loud noises like fireworks or thunderstorms are the cause of nearly 1 in 5 lost pets". ๐ข
A continuous firework display may be a marvelous and shimmering moment for a festive celebration. However, it can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety to pets, which may include:
-Violent shaking, trembling
-Excessive drooling
-Barking, howling
-Hiding, getting into/out of the house, fence, or other enclosure
-Refusing to eat food
-May lose bladder/bowel control & experience temporary diarrhea from prolonged stress.
WHAT CAN WE DO? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
-Keep your pets indoors.
-Close the curtains and turn on the TV or radio to provide distraction.
-Provide a quiet place, which may give your pet a sense of security and comfort.
-Use a leash or carrier if you must go outside with your pet to keep them from running off (a common response to stress and fear).

On September 10, 2023, the Lic-Eco Directive Team joined forces for Lakaw Alang sa Paglaum: A World Su***de Prevention Awareness Month Walk for a Cause. ๐ฑ๐ซ
As Lic-Eco unites, let these steps echo the sentiment that "hope is the only thing stronger than fear." Our collective steps embody the belief that kindness can save lives, and our collective voice is the most powerful weapon to foster change.
Throughout Su***de Prevention Month, we stand united, spreading hope, support, and understanding, while honoring those we've lost and actively working to prevent further tragedies. This month serves as a crucial reminder to prioritize mental health, emphasizing the reality of conditions like depression. By promoting open conversations, we aim to reduce feelings of isolation and provide hope for those struggling. ๐ซ
Let's use our collective voice, guided by the wisdom that "hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness." In breaking down barriers, we foster a society where compassion prevails, not only during this dedicated month but continuously because together, we can save lives. ๐ฑ

World Tsunami Awareness Day 2023: Combating Inequality, for a Resilient Tomorrow๐๐
Come join us in spreading awareness about tsunamis and working towards a future for everyone!
Recognized by the United Nations on November 5, World Tsunami Awareness Day is dedicated to increasing knowledge and preparedness.
๐ฌ Uncover this year's theme for WTAD; Tackling Inequality for a Resilient Future. Let's collaborate to ensure that no community gets left behind when it comes to dealing with tsunamis.
๐ The Philippines situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire faces vulnerability to tsunamis due to its location at the convergence of plates. Let's equip ourselves with knowledge to safeguard our communities.
โ๏ธ Familiarize yourself with PHIVOLCS' three-point sign system to stay safe during a tsunami;
1๏ธโฃ Shake: Severe shaking, which is frequently produced by an earthquake, serves as a warning indicator.
2๏ธโฃ Drop; Keep an eye out for any unusual rise or decrease in sea level that could indicate a tsunami hazard.
3๏ธโฃ Roar: Immediately seek ground upon hearing a sound, as it could signal the approach of a tsunami.
Let's stand together, take action, and build a more resilient future for all!

Happy World Ozone Day! ๐โจ
On September 16th each year, the Ozone Day is celebrated. Let this day serve as a reminder to cherish nature's gift and raise awareness to make a change for the betterment of our world.
This day is intended to increase awareness of the ozone layer's significance and how its destruction contributes to global warming and climate change on a worldwide scale.
Notably, the Earth is shielded from the sun's harmful rays by a thin layer of gas known as the ozone layer. However, pollution from industry and other sources poses a threat to this layer. ODS (ozone-depleting substance) was released into the atmosphere in the 1970s, which caused the ozone layer to start thinning.
Let us all save our โจozoneโจ before it becomes a no-zone!!

Join us in saving Mother Earth, one beach at a time. Let's come together for a coastal cleanup drive and make a positive impact on our environment. Together, we can keep our oceans clean and protect the beautiful creatures that call them home. Let's leave a lasting legacy of a healthier planet for future generations.
Coastal areas are crucial for human well-being as they provide ecosystem services that support economic, social, and cultural activities. According to a study by the United Nations Environment Programme, coastal areas are home to over half of the world's population. Their importance is only increasing with rapid urbanization and industrialization.
One of the most significant benefits of coastal areas is their role in carbon sequestration, which helps mitigate the effects of climate change. Mangrove forests and seagrass beds in coastal areas are particularly effective in storing carbon, with estimates suggesting that these ecosystems can store up to five times more carbon per unit area than terrestrial forests. Despite their importance, coastal areas are facing increasing pressures from human activities such as pollution, overfishing, and development. The loss of coastal habitats and the degradation of their ecosystem services can have significant impacts on both human well-being and biodiversity. Therefore, it is crucial to protect and conserve these valuable areas for the benefit of present and future generations.
With this, we encourage all of you to participate in our coastal clean-up drive, this April 22, 2023, from 5:30 AM - 7:00 AM at Station 1, Near Agora Terminal in collaboration with Kusgan Volunteers. Halika ka na at let's save the environment, what are you waiting for? Sign up now!

Sustaining a clean and tidy environment is vital in every corner of our surroundings may it be in our house, school, city, or country. Trash bins play significant roles in this facet, where they are the containers that vary in different types that help us utilize proper waste disposal.
With the growing population today, a lot of waste has been doubled day by day and these containers aid us a lot in lessening the waste's negative impact both for us humans and our planet.
There are many compelling reasons why trash bins matter and are exceptional for us such as:
โข They allow us to store our trash securely, keeping it from spreading around the roads or sidewalks.
โข Prevents hazardous wastes from spreading which keeps the civilians prevent obtaining ailments.
โข Help improve hygiene and sanitation around the area where containers are installed.
โข Trash Bins make recycling even more efficient, wherein having different containers will allow us to separate different kinds of garbage.
However, as much as how helpful trash bins are to us if we people don't even use them correctly or follow simple decency in throwing our waste properly like segregating or putting it in the right type of bins depending on the components the waste has, and throwing trashes everywhere whenever you want is completely useless. It will only make the empty trash bins a display of fake support, backing the ignorance we have about the environmental issues we're battling. Our surroundings will be messy, dirty, and unhygienic which will inevitably push a lot of humans to suffer.
The Good News is that the Lic-Eco family has the greatest opportunity to assist by adding trash bins on our main campus to help you practice and walk you along the way into making our surrounding a healthier place.
Having this awareness will surely wake you up with the realization of HOW IMPORTANT TRASH BINS ARE AND USING IT PROPERLY WILL REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
We, Liceans, as a member of the community, should take the initiative to practice it starting from our homes, to our very own school, and to our city to help our community have a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.๐
