Every year close to 800 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt su***de. Every su***de is a tragedy that affects families, communities and entire countries and has long-lasting effects on the people left behind. Su***de occurs throughout the lifespan and was the second leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds globally in 2016.
Su***de is a serious public health problem; however, su***des are preventable with timely, evidence-based and often low-cost interventions. For national responses to be effective, a comprehensive multi-sectoral su***de prevention strategy is needed.
If you’re concerned a loved one is contemplating su***de, such questions can be tough to answer. But experts stress that remaining silent isn't the answer. They point out that su***de is preventable, and knowing the facts about it can help you intervene and make a difference in someone's life. Here, we debunk six common myths about su***de to help you give your loved one the support they need.

DEPRESSION
The Philippines has one of the highest cases of depression in Southeast Asia, affecting more than three million Filipinos. It is recognized by our own Department of Health (DOH) as a serious health condition, and the weight of haplessness, hopelessness and helplessness—the three dreaded ‘H’ symptoms of depression—gravitate towards what now are the new high-risk group: the young population.
Everyone has experienced belonging and not belonging among people. For example, you might have a close-knit relationship with your family, where you feel you belong at every social gathering. Conversely, you may be the black sheep of your family, and feel you don’t belong at such gatherings. Another example may be when you hang out with a certain friend, and you feel like you belong there. Yet if that friend includes certain other friends that you are not close to, or who you are not comfortable with, you may feel that you don’t belong.
We cannot separate the importance of a sense of belonging from our physical and mental health. The social ties that accompany a sense of belonging are a protective factor helping manage stress. When we feel we have support and are not alone, we often cope more effectively with difficult times in our lives. Coping well with hardships decreases the physical and mental impact of these situations.
The need to belong, also often referred to as belongingness, refers to a human emotional need to affiliate with and be accepted by members of a group. This may include the need to belong to a peer group at school, to be accepted by co-workers, to be part of an athletic team, and to be part of a religious group.
Hello friends! I have a question, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BELONG? You can write down in the comment section below. (one word or a phrase will do)
When you’re battling through with a break-up, whether from a family, friends, lover, or even school problems. Anything that makes you suffer emotionally. It can be hard to know what will make you feel better. We have different ways of coping pain. Just cope the way you want to cope. The good thing to remember is that the tough times are only temporary.
Have you experience being in a relationship that you dearly love but you just end up in two separate ways? How painful can that be? They say, it’s a different type of pain. It can seem as if the world is falling on top of you.

A family is understood as an integral homogenous unit of the larger social systems. A family is the first line of defense for children. It plays an important role in providing stability and support at times of crisis. The members of the family become a source of nurturance, emotional bonding and socialization. Hence having strong relations becomes necessary. However, strong family relationships aren’t automatically created, they need time and efforts of the members.
While we know the importance of family relations there may be some differences which are weakening the family bond. So how can you build strong family relations?
When you’re insecure, life in general is just harder. Cultivating authentic relationships is difficult because you’re constantly worried about things like what others think of you or whether people might leave you. Accepting constructive criticism is like swallowing gravel because it can feel like an attack on your intelligence or who you are rather than just advice meant to help you. Social anxiety, people pleasing, depression, resentment, perfectionism, self-loathing, lacking confidence, and more run rampant among those with low levels of self-worth. Rather than struggling through life unsure of why you matter and allowing that insecurity to hold you back, wouldn’t you prefer to work toward a purposeful, enjoyable existence?
If you are the person who is struggling right now, there are people who are willing to listen and be there for you. Let us fight this together. Let us help one another.
