Each bottle of Shiga® packs the fire of hundreds of handpicked organic chilis grown by Higaonon farmers in the mountain forests of Bukidnon. Most of our ingredients are organic and locally sourced. We only use pure olive oil in our products, and only sea salt and wild honey as natural preservatives.

Our Story

When our family created Shiga 11 years ago, it was just a bottle of roasted chili and garlic in olive oil. We wanted to help a Higaonon tribe sell their native sili. They lived in a place called Overlooking in Talakag, Bukidnon. It's in the middle of nowhere — you probably wouldn’t find this place on a map if you tried.

The Higaonon farmers' prices for their sili ranged from P30 to P100 per gallon. Back then, P30 could feed a small family for an entire day. We bought their sili at an assured price of P70 plus a 75% incentive — this meant they could always count on this price each time we bought their produce. We also taught them basic business strategies and helped them shape the leaders of their tribe. It's one of the deepest friendships we've made in our lifetime.

Overlooking has changed a lot since their tribe leader died. Their sili business also died a natural death. But our advocacies live on — we buy local when we can, we partner with local businesses and we choose the healthiest ingredients we can find. We only use pure olive oil, and only sea salt and wild honey as natural preservatives. You won’t find MSG or other harmful chemicals in any of our products.
