TIPS FOR CONTACT LENS USERS WHEN USING DIGITAL DEVICES

Dry eye is the main problem encountered by contact lens users who use digital devices for long periods of time. Wear eyeglasses instead of contact lenses. Don’t sleep in your contact lenses, even if these are labeled “extended wear.” Always perform good contact lens cleaning practices.

Ask your eye doctor for more tips on wearing contact lens while using digital devices.

HAVE A BASELINE EYE EXAM

Celebrate Sight Saving Month this August by taking care of your eyes. If you have no signs or risk factors for eye disease, you should see an ophthalmologist to get a baseline eye disease screening at age 40.

If you have symptoms or a family history of eye disease, diabetes or high blood pressure, your ophthalmologist will prescribe how frequently your eyes should be examined.

GADGET ADDICTION IMPACTS VISUAL ACUITY

Gadget addiction is the excessive use of computers, smartphone or other digital devices to the extent that it starts to negatively influence our health and life as a whole. It usually affects teenagers and children. Studies show that the duration and frequency of gadget usage significantly affect visual acuity or sharpness of vision.

ONLINE: OUR EYES ON THE LINE

Using devices will not damage the eyes permanently, but too much use can cause digital eye strain.

Digital eye strain can cause:
👁️ Dry eyes,
👁️ Blurry Vision,
👁️ Watery Eyes,
👁️ And Headaches.

You can prevent digital eye strain by:
👁️ Using the computer with proper posture
👁️ Making sure your screens are 18-24 inches away from your eyes,
👁️ Choosing the bigger font size,
👁️ Adjusting the screen brightness to a comfortable level,
👁️ Practicing 20-20-20 rule,
👁️ Blinking regularly,
👁️ Avoiding direct wind from a fan or air-conditioner,
👁️ And applying lubricant eye drops to relieve dry eye symptoms.

Here is a public service reminder from the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology and the Philippine Cornea Society with regard to the use of UVC devices. As much as we want our things sanitized, we need to be aware of the possible harmful effects of UVC so we can protect ourselves.

EPEKTO NG LABIS NA PAGGAMIT NG GADGET SA MATA NG BATA

Ang sobrang paggamit ng computer, smartphone o ibang digital screen ay maaaring magdulot ng dry eye, eye strain at myopia (nearsightedness) sa mga bata. Kabilang sa mga sintomas ng digital-related eye strain ay panlalabo ng paningin, pagluluha at pananakit ng mata.

Kumonsulta sa ophthalmologist kung paano ma-kontrol ang screen time ng iyong anak at maprotektahan ang kanilang paningin.

👁️ Take a break every 10 minutes from reading, watching TV, or using electronic devices.
