Mongo Bread
WE ARE MONGO BREAD, DELICIOUSLY AUDIBLE SINCE 2005. We are "Mongo Bread" a blues rock band which started the year 2005.
Through the years a lot of lineup changes were made but the year present the band is made up of FOUR able men:
VOCALS/HARMONICA - Donn Jefferson Atienza
LEAD GUITARS - Ron Manalo
RHYTHM GUITARS - Junjun Calleja
BASS/VOCALS - King "Kimpoy" Cajayon
DRUMS - Lendl "DJ" Arago
".. 'cause you know I'll be here 'til Sunday."
BIPOLAR, one of the songs from Fresh from the Oven album written by our drummer, Singlemiddle Agedman Withonlycat. Recorded in Rambutan Jam, por supuesto, thanks to Sir Jips.
It's been a decade since we last share the studio. Made music, wrote songs, had fun. We remain the same old chaps but added more years under our belts (I mean, our muffin tops). We kind of forgot the lyrics, we forgot the chords, we almost forgot everything.
It is just nice to be with your brothers again, though Donn could not make it earlier, it feels so good to rekindle the light, the memories.
I am hoping to create more with these guys (Kai, DJ, Donny, King) Idk how, but we will still release the darn second album.
- Ron
(Sorry for the muddled lyrics as I've said, we forgot the words)
Fare thee well Jeff Beck. :'(
You will be missed.
Maligayang Kaarawan DJ!

Ron's nostalgic moments:
Listening to La Bulaqueña of Orange and Lemons gives us a glimpse of the past and also enriches our culture through music. It has been ages since we got to have a new album from the band. ONL will always be an inspiration for Mongo Bread's music
At the height of OPM bands circling the mainstream media around 2005, our junior year in high school, we formed the band with most of the members were from our class and the others were our seniors. We covered songs from heavy to alternative rock genres and we composed our own songs as well. The band joined our first Battle of the Bands, which was sponsored by Jollibee that aims to promote “Strike Whilst the Iron is Hot” with scheduled to perform as well. It was my first time to see popular artists from Manila as Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro was not a hotspot for gigs and all sort of music gathering back then.
I was just a techy back then and when Mongo Bread played “Bamboozle” an original composition by our then bassist Bethuel Vendiola, and I remember Sir Clem Castro commending the song in the backstage, [sic] “Compo nyo yan? Ganda!”. I was star struck of course but I responded confidently [sic], “Salamat sir, lupet nyo din”, something like that. The night was ecstatic, we didn’t win, but we had the chance to witness this great band play great songs.
Thanks to Lilystars Records and Orange and Lemons for bringing the La Bulaqueña to us.
(Below is a photo of the original members of 3/4 Mongo Bread performing for a Battle of the Bands. From left to right, Donn Atienza vocals, Betsy Vendiola bassist, Jouise Marasigan drummer, DK Rosales guitarist, Lendl Arago keyboardist, Edward Yumang vocalist, not on the photo was Jiko Leviste lead guitarist)
