(Devotion) Community: God’s Answer to Defeat
Who’s watching out for you?
You need people who will defend you, stand up for you and protect you, help you stay on track, and warn you. We all need this, because we all have blind spots.
Philippians 2:4 says, “Look out for one another’s interest, not just your own” (TEV). If you want a counter-culture verse, that’s it! In most parts of the world, the general idea is it’s all about “me” — my needs, my interests, my wants, and my ambitions.
But the Bible says we should care about each other. We’re family! As brothers and sisters in God’s family, we should defend each other and help each other stay on track.
Since Sept. 11, 2001, we’ve all been more vigilant in watching out for each other. But did you know that you have an enemy far more destructive than terrorists? Oh, yes! You have a personal enemy, and he hates your guts. His name is Satan. He wants to mess up your life. He wants to ruin your relationships. He wants to defeat you.
Why would he do that? Because he can’t hurt God. When you can’t hurt somebody, what do you do? You go after their children. Satan can’t hurt God, so he tries to hurt God’s children.
When Satan attacks you, he doesn’t come in a little red costume with a pitchfork and say, “Boo!” How does Satan mess up your life? Through habits you can’t break, through hurts that you won’t let go of, through problems and circumstances, through relationships that break your heart.
Most Christians are defeated, because we try to fight Satan on our own. That’s stupid! You’re never going to win against the devil on your own. You need other people who will watch out for you and help you.
Community is God’s answer to defeat. You need to find the people who will stand with you in tough times and say, “We’re not going to let you get discouraged. We’re not going to let you get depressed. We’re not going to let you worry. We’re going to stay here with you."
“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple braided cord is not easily broken” (Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT, second edition). (Better Together, Rick Warren)

(Devotion) Brighter Than the Darkness
God has made it so simple for us to find our way to Him! He really couldn't make it much easier for us. Here's what the Bible states:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." (Psalm 119:105, NKJV)
Period. Amen!
We say, "It is so dark around me." Jesus says, "I want to give you light through My Word."
We say, "I am exhausted." Jesus says, "I want to renew your strength through My Word."
We say, "Nothing makes sense anymore." Jesus says, "Look into My Word, and you'll understand."
We say, "I'm so lonely." Jesus says, "My Word promises that I will be with you always."
We say, "I don't feel You." Jesus says, "You will find Me in My Word."
What are you searching for today, or what are you needing as you begin this New Year? Whatever it is, you'll find it…" in His Word"!
Yes, His Word, the Bible, is guaranteed to give you what you truly long for deep inside. God wants to use it to give you the light you need for the coming year! :-)
Let's pray together today…"Jesus, thank You for Your Word. I believe You will use it to work mightily in my life, renew my strength, and turn darkness into light! In Jesus' name, amen." (Starting Off the New Year Strong, D.Rosenkranz)
Dive into God's Word today dears, you'll be amazed! 🤗🙏 Let God wake you up and bring you to greater heights for His glory!
(Devotion) Peace for the Future
We often feel a lack of peace when we don’t have all the pieces of our life plan. When we don’t know how a situation will turn out, or when we feel like we can’t control the outcome, we worry. But we can find peace in a new perspective.
We may not know what the future holds for our lives personally, but we do know how the future ends collectively—with Jesus returning to make all wrongs right. Here’s a glimpse from Revelation 21:4-5
That knowledge can guard our hearts with peace because no matter what trials come our way, we know that God will triumph in the end.
Jesus reminded us of this in John 14 when He told His disciples that they didn’t need to worry about where He was going because He was preparing a place for them in His Father’s house. So, we can have present peace because of our future place.
Now, that doesn’t mean we just passively hope for eternity and do nothing on earth. Instead, we have a peace that propels us toward action—to bring more of God’s Kingdom here on earth by being peacemakers, sharing our faith, loving others, serving others, and using our gifts for His glory. And when we do so, we’re bringing some of God’s peace—wholeness—to a broken world.
Just look at this challenging prayer we find from Paul about how to wait for Jesus’ return:
Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 NLT
As you think about ways to find more of the missing peace in your life, remember that true peace only comes from God. He is the only One who can take our full brokenness and create something new. But as you seek Him, consider how you can share His peace with the people around you. (Missing Peace, Pastor Craig Groeschel)
(Devotion) Peace in Chaos
Is it possible to be peaceful even when you’re in the middle of something painful? The short answer is yes, but that doesn’t make the process less painful. In fact, you can experience peace and pain at the same time.
The disciples and early followers of Jesus knew this firsthand. They weren’t strangers to storms. And while they always remained faithful, that doesn’t mean they never experienced frustration, confusion, doubt, or anxiety. Just look at what Paul wrote about his experiences in 2 Corinthians 1:8-9.
Paul didn’t want to sugarcoat their experiences. He didn’t want people to think they found purpose without pain. But he also didn’t want to focus so much on his suffering that they missed what God was doing in the story.
We tend to want purpose and peace without pain. We tend to think that if something isn’t going well, then it isn’t worth it. But Jesus never promised us an easy life here on earth. In fact, He made sure we knew that we would have troubles in this world. But He also left us hope and peace that He has already conquered all of it.
And even though He’s conquered all of it, He still comforts us through it. In that same passage in 2 Corinthians, Paul writes about how they experienced God’s supernatural comfort through the chaos of their circumstances. And he presents it as an opportunity for us to extend that same comfort to others.
We will face storms in this life. But those storms often reveal the status of our faith. Do we respond by seeing the significance of our suffering? Or do we focus on the wrong questions?
In Mark 4, we read about a literal storm the disciples were facing. So, in fear they frantically woke Jesus up asking:
… “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” Mark 4:38 NLT
Isn’t that the question we’re most tempted to ask during storms in our own lives? God, don’t You care?
Jesus responds by settling the storm but also challenging their comfort. He cared enough to not only solve their problem but also ask about the status of their faith.
When we know who Jesus is, we can be confident that He cares about our storms, and He is with us during them. So, can we have peace during pain? Yes. But it requires faith—trusting that our pain has purpose and our God is unfazed through the process. (Missing Peace, C.Groeschel)
(Devotion) Jesus Got Righteously Angry
Are Christians allowed to get angry? Maybe you’ve wondered that—especially as your temper was starting to flare up. But anger itself is rarely the problem. Our reactions to anger are what can get us in trouble.
Jesus Himself got angry. So being angry isn’t wrong—especially if you get angry about something that breaks the heart of God. When we get mistreated—or when someone we love gets mistreated—anger is a natural response.
God is a just God, and even though He is slow to get angry, He still gets angry.
In fact, Jesus often displayed righteous anger. In Matthew 21, we see Him literally turn over tables after people started abusing the temple as a place to trade and sell animals for sacrifices. And Jesus’ anger was justified. When we see people doing wrong to others, we should feel righteously angry, and we should do something about it.
That doesn’t mean we seek revenge. It doesn’t mean we behave recklessly or unlovingly. It does mean that when we see injustice, it should make us mad and break our hearts.
Often, the things we get angry about reveal what we care about. Maybe if you see children growing up without families, it makes you righteously angry, so you decide to start fostering or serving foster families. Maybe you can’t stand it that some people don’t have access to a Bible in their language, so you give to Bible translation or study the translation process. What is it that makes you righteously angry?
Jesus threw down tables to disrupt corruption. He reclaimed and restored God’s temple to honor God. His anger invoked action that brought glory to God. So in your anger, do not sin. But do stand up for what’s right.
It’s okay to be angry. But when we’re angry, let’s invite God into the situation. Maybe there’s something that needs to change, so we champion the cause. Maybe it’s a sign that we’re called to be a part of the solution, so we find ways to help and support. No matter what, we go to God and ask Him what our next step is and what we can learn from our anger.
Pray: God, thank You for showing us what it looks like to be righteously angry. Reveal to me anything in this world that You want me to be righteously angry about, and show me my next step to bring justice. Help me not to sin in my anger but to come to You humbly. I surrender any unjust anger I’m carrying to You. In Jesus’ name, amen. (Emotions, C.Groeschel)
(Devotion) Jesus Showed Us What Joy Looks Like
Most of us want to find happiness and avoid pain. And while there’s nothing wrong with being happy, our deepest calling isn’t to be happy. It’s to become holy—set apart for God. So while it’s tempting to crave happiness, Jesus promises something better. In Jesus, we can find true joy.
Let’s spot the difference:
Happiness is a moving target. JOY is a constant choice.
Happiness depends on external circumstances. JOY comes from internal peace.
Happiness is a feeling. JOY is a fruit of the Spirit.
Happiness says it’s all about me. JOY says it’s about the Spirit living inside of me.
Happiness says pain is a problem to avoid. JOY says pain has a higher purpose.
Happiness says I’ll be okay when things change for the better. JOY stays because God never changes.
If we’re seeking out a happy, trouble-free life, we’ll be sorely disappointed. But we can find true joy in Jesus.
Joy doesn’t mean the absence of pain. It means that pain and joy can coexist. It’s not that joy causes our problems to go away. It’s that joy gives our pain a new perspective.
Just think about all the times Scripture talks about joy in light of a difficult circumstance—not in spite of it.
When we’re struggling to find joy, we can look to Jesus. He experienced hardship just as we do. But He willingly endured the pain because He knew the joy of His purpose.
When we go through trials, we get to count them as joy because of the way we’ll get to know God, rely on God, trust God, and grow in a deeper intimacy with God. It doesn’t mean we can’t or won’t feel pain, sadness, or anger. But it does mean we can experience both great joy and incredible pain all at once because of the constant hope and joy we have in Jesus.
Pray: Jesus, thank You for giving us joy and modeling what it looks like. Help me to consider the joy in every problem and trial I face—even when it’s challenging. Help me look to You, enduring pain for the joy of my purpose. I trust You. Give me endurance, strength, and joy as I go throughout my day, and thank You for promising to be with me no matter what. In Jesus’ name, amen. (Emotions, C.Groeschel)
(Devotion) When Samuel cried out for deliverance, God answered Him and remained true to His promise to protect Israel from the Philistines all throughout Samuel's life.
This reminds us that everything God does is always wonderful, He answers prayers and never breaks His promises. As it was true then, it is the same till now. God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. God’s work doesn’t stop in the past. Remembering what He did is a way of not forgetting the character of the God we serve.
He who started the good work will continue to do so. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us. When we love Him, everything cooperates for our good. Regardless of the afflictions of this world, in Him we have peace. By living His Word, we achieve victory. No matter how much time passes, He will always be with us. When we are tired, He relieves us. In the little, He is the one who makes it overflow. We are undeserving of his promises, but, out of love, God never forgets us. Therefore, we can never forget Him.
May we never lose hope, but keep the faith in the promises of our God. Even though we don't know what tomorrow will look like in our lives, we can be sure that with God, it will always be better. Never think that you have lived all the plans of God in your life. Every day everything becomes new when we are in His presence. Smile at the future!
The greatest promise we received was our salvation. In it, we need to stand firm every day. May we be grateful for yesterday, may our hearts be always in today and our hope in tomorrow. Let us make the Lord's promises our greatest treasure and live life always ready to experience the best God has in store for us. Amen. (excerpt from Ebenezer: Thus Far the Lord Has Helped Us)
(Thoughts to Ponder) Are you like this?
To self: "Wow! was I blessed by that message today, I think that'll last me for the whole week!" (Then goes about your daily life the whole week not opening the Bible even once) 😮💨
Or are you like this?
To self: Alright, I'll attend a bible study/ devotion today since I really need God's power this week. (Then goes about your daily life barely stopping to talk to God and read His Word) 🥺😢
My friends, if we really want to grow in our Christian lives, we need to keep coming back to the Word of God. It's not a one shot deal. A plant can't grow without daily sustenance of water and sun; and it's the same for us. We can't mature spiritually or grow in our faith when we do not receive daily sustenance from God through daily reading and meditating on His Word.
It’s not enough to read the Bible once and then move on. We need to stay plugged in to the power from heaven that God only gives us in the form of coming back to His Word over and over. Have a blessed day. 🥰🙏💗
(Devotion) What a Friend We Have in Jesus
In 1 Peter 5:7 NLT, we are told, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." In the hymn, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, we’re reminded to take our troubles to the Lord in prayer. If, like me, you've experienced something so difficult you have nothing but Jesus to lean on, you know this hymn only scratches the surface of His comforting love. No matter how eloquent the words, they pale in comparison to the sense that He’s with you, and that with Him, everything will be okay.
🎶 Are we weak and heavy-laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In His arms He’ll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there. 🎶
If you haven’t experienced Jesus this way, take the time to meditate on the words of this hymn and today’s Scriptures. It may take a few tries, but get to a quiet place—somewhere you enjoy. Close your eyes, tell Jesus about what’s going on, ask Him to reveal Himself, and let these words become your reality. (How Sweet the Sound, C.Groeschel)
(Devotion) Goodness: Virtue Unleashed
Goodness is intentional, no one is good by default. We choose right over wrong, we resist evil and decide for good, we actively set our hearts on things above while we walk through the world below — all by His Spirit. And as the Spirit’s fruit emerges and grows through our lives, His goodness will glorify God and cement His reality to the world around us.
The goodness of the Spirit flourishes as a life full of virtue in a vice infested world that glorifies selfishness and corruption in every way... His goodness shines like a light where darkness, pretense, flattery, and self-absorption are celebrated as moral assets.
For a world whose idea of goodness resonates from their own dark and sinful hearts, God’s goodness blazes like a beacon of hope from our lives as it grows in us as a fruit of the Spirit. And just as He has called us by “His own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3), we can call others through His goodness flourishing through us. That is why in 2 Thessalonians 1:11, the Apostle Paul prayed that, “…by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.” Amen! (Overcomers with the Fruit of the Spirit, R. Bonnke)
(Awit 118:24, 26, 29)
