The Cebu Institute of Medicine along with the CIM alumni association invites all of you to celebrate the life of our very own Dr. Pek Eng T. Lim.

Dr. Lim has joined our creator peacefully on the 16th of July, 2024. He leaves behind a loving and dedicated family along with a community of doctors he has shaped to become Physicians with a Heart.

A mass will be hosted by the CIM and CIM Alumni Association on July 20, 2024 at 8 pm at the Cosmopolitan Nivel Hills, Cebu City. Further details to follow.

Sharing with you the latest 2024 Childhood Immunization Schedule in the Philippines.

At the age of 1, your baby should have atleast received the following vaccines and most of them are available at local health centers and are given for free. These are the following:

BCG x 1 dose
Hep B x 3 - 4 doses
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis x 3 - 4 doses
Inactivated polio (IPV) x 2 - 4 doses
Oral polio (OPV) x 3 doses
Hib x 3 - 4 doses
Pneumonia x 3 - 4 doses
Measles x 1 dose
MMR x 1 - 2 doses

Other vaccines that may not be available at LHC but available in private clinics/hospitals and are of equal importance are the following:

Rotavirus x 2 - 3 doses
Flu x 2 doses
Inactivated Hepa A x 1 dose (*2nd dose can be given at a minimum interval of 6 mos from the 1st dose)
Varicella x 1 dose (*2nd dose is usually given at 4-6 years of age but maybe given at an earlier interval of 4 weeks to 3 mos from the 1st dose and is considered valid)
Japanese Encephalitis x 1 dose (2nd/booster dose is given 12-24 mos from the 1st dose)
Meningococcal x 1 - 3 doses

👩🏻‍⚕️ I censored the patient's information because he messaged me in private and I do not want him to be bashed.

📌 "Ayoko kasi magpa check up sa doctor sayang po kasi yung ibabayad na doctors fee 😅"

👩🏻‍⚕️ Sinend niyo po yan sa page ko, so ano po ang tingin niyo sa akin, patatas? 😆😅🤭

✅ Wala po'ng makakasagot ng tanong tungkol sa symptoms niyo nang walang consultation (see below📌)

✅ I post health-informative content in social media during my free time, in between consultations, duties, and other engagements. I do this for free because this is my advocacy. But I have my private practice where I am paid and compensated accordingly.

✅ Doctors, like any other person who has a job/service provided (eg nurses, lawyers, teachers, janitors, street sweepers, architects, engineers, cooks, clerks, dentists, police officers, drivers, nutritionists, med tech, pharmacists, actors, content creators, singers, nail technicians, barbers, list all here..) are given just and fair compensation para sa services na binibigay. Pinaghirapan natin ito lahat - we invest time, money, effort into perfecting our craft for honest living. The only reason why we should do anything for free is if we choose to do it for free.

Importante ang pera, it pays bills, sends our kids to school, pays for our necessities. That's why we work hard to earn it.

Kung gusto po ng libreng consultation, there are public/government hospitals, clinics, at health centers.

✅ Gusto ko lang rin sana malaman bakit nya iniisip na sayang ang bayad nya kapag nag-paconsult siya sa doctor.
Baka may hindi siya magandang experience?
Baka tight ang finances at hindi niya priority?

👩🏻‍⚕️ Whatever the reason is, I hope it gets resolved at sana magpacheck up siya. His blood pressure is high at kailangan ng consultation sa doctor for proper diagnosis and management. Mas mahal po ang gagastusin kapag lumala ang sakit.

📌 Sa pagtatanong po ng gamot nang walang kumpletong consultation sa doctor:

✅ Hindi namin alam kung tama nga ang iniisip niyong sakit o karamdaman na meron kayo sa simpleng sabi niyo lang ng isang sintomas sa message/comments. Sinasabi niyo masakit ang dibdib kala niyo sa puso, yun pala ay hyperacidity - eh magka-iba ang gamot dyan.

✅ Baka mas makasama kesa makabuti kung sasagutin namin ang tanong na yan nang walang kaalam-alam sa estado ng pasyente at nang hindi namin na-konsulta.

✅ Ang pag-reseta sa gamot ay individualized o natatangi para sa particular na pasyente. Nakadepende sa maraming factors at hindi ito basta-basta. Kailangang ng masinsinang usap sa pasyente para malaman ang maraming bagay tulad ng:
● Edad
● Kasarian
● Disposition noong oras ng konsulta
● Vital signs
● Uri ng sakit o karamdaman
● Iba pang sintomas
● Mga dati nang nainom na gamot
● Mga iniinom na gamot sa kasalukuyan
● Comorbidities o ibang sakit
● Allergies
● Physical examination
● Presyo ng gamot at kakayahan ng pasyente na bilin ito
● Availability ng gamot

✅ Management and treatment also consist of a lot of parameters:
● Pharmacological (gamot)
● Non-pharmacological (diet, exercise, mindfulness, stress management at marami pang iba)
● Family-focused care
● Community-oriented care

✅ Hindi po kami makakapag decide ng management for you sa mga parameters na ito kung hindi namin kayo ikokonsulta.

✅ Hindi po YES/NO o simpleng 'ito gawin mo' ang sagot sa tanong na "ano po magandang pangpababa ng dugo".

✅ Kaya kapag tatanungin niyo ko ng "Doc, ano'ng maganda gamot sa ______" ang sasabihin ko lang po sa inyo ay "magpacheck up kayo" dahil iyon ang pinaka maganda niyong step na magagawa para sa nararamdaman niyo.

✅ Madami din po ako'ng nakikita sa mga support groups na nagppost ng question nila at mga hindi doctor ang sumasagot. Delikado po ito.

✅ Kaya mas makakabuti kung magpapacheck-up kayo kesa magdepende sa pag-tatanong online nang walang check-up o sa hindi naman Board-Certfied Doctor.

✅ Sumasagot po ako ng tanong kung tama at nararapat ang pagtatanong kasi gusto ko'ng matutuo tayong lahat ng ligtas. :)

Extending the Acceptance of CPD Undertaking for the Renewal of Professional Identification Card until December 31, 2024

To address the concerns raised by professionals who have difficulty with the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit units, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) informs the public that the acceptance of CPD undertaking for the renewal of Professional Identification Card (PIC) is extended until December 31, 2024.

Concerned professionals with previous renewal transactions but with withheld PIC issuance are advised to proceed to their original place of appointment for the ex*****on of the required CPD Undertaking Form and release of their respective PICs.

Last week, my lil sis turned 50. She had a joint party with her hubby a couple months ago, but we didn't want her to go without cake on her actual birthday so we made this as a surprise when we went down south the weekend before last.

Both my sis and my b.i.l. are GPs and have worked their socks off, especially the past few years, so deserve nice surprises!

I've been wanting to do a cake version of the Bristol Stool Scale for years. We made them guess which choccy bars we used! It's not often we get to do a c**p cake! Lol!
