HAPPENING NOW || The 2nd day of the Training on Digital Mapping Operations Using Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) and ArcGIS begins with an overview of yesterday's morning and afternoon sessions by the Resource Person, Mr. Al Wahab Harun, GIS Specialist and a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at Notre Dame University.
He emphasize the definition of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Basic concept in QGIS.

This training was initiated by Special Development Fund (SDF) under the Office of the Special Concerns (OSCO) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR). The participants are from various sectors of MAFAR including Agriculture, Fisheries, Engineering, Planning, SDF, TDIF, and representatives from MAFAR Provincial Offices such as MAFAR Maguindanao, MAFAR Tawi-Tawi, and MAFAR Basilan are also present. The duration of the activity is five days, starting from September 19, 2022 to September 23, 2022 at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.

The objective of this activity is to equip the participants with basic knowledge of Geographic Information System, to capacitate the participants in analyzing, manipulating, and displaying Geographic Information, to help the participants understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context through the use of QGIS and ArcGIS, and its application in the implementation of Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) of MAFAR-SDF.

It was highlighted yesterday by Ms. Arphia T. Ebus, the Chief of Staff and Head of the Office of Special Concerns about the objective of this activity in her opening remarks. She quoted, "Without team work, we can't successfully implement the Programs, Project, and Activities of MAFAR."

She added, "Farmers are not just our beneficiaries but they are our partners. We have to help them develop their economic activities."

This statement was strongly agreed by Mr. Harun through his statements of the importance of GIS and its objectives. He stated three essential informations that the participants must know pertaining to QGIS and ArcGIS: first is that its implementation (QGIS) shall produce sustainability, second is that it shall be resilient and must consider the inclusion of project evaluation or assessment for possible climate change and/or natural calamity, and lastly is this data base is intact.

The training's methodology to come up with final outputs is through lecture activities, presentations, group discussions, and practical applications. The participants expressed their interest and willingness to further enhance their skills and become one of the contributors of the Moral Governance of BARMM.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (September 20, 2022) - The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform โ€“ Special Development Funds with Engr. Ghalia S. Darping and Ms. Sittie Heyn S. Guiaman as its representative participated in the Information Officerโ€™s Communication Advocacy and Documentation Workshop along with the officials and representatives of various Ministries and Offices on September 5 โ€“ 9, 2022 at Grand Summit Hotel in this city. The five-day workshop was headed by the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) under Special Development Authority (SDF-PMO) and it was participated by a total number of 77 Information officers and Representatives from different Offices and Agencies of BARMM.

The said activity aims to equip the participants, particularly the Information officers of each BARMM office and institution with knowledge of Basic Principles of Writing, Non-Violent Communication, Photojournalism, and the Proper Identification of Best Practices and how it is essential in the progress of Bangsamoro Region. Moreover, the activity aims to reinforce the skills of the participants in Journalism, Documentation, and Dialogue by providing them with the right techniques and approaches to be used in the implementation of Programs, Projects, and Activities under the SDF.

As a result, the activity provided relevant information to the participants which can be a guiding tool for them in the implementation process and a great contributor to the moral governance of BARMM.

Lamitan City - The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform - Basilan in partnership with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations have conducted a Provincial Awarding and Distribution of Starter Kits on March 2, 2022 at MAFAR Provincial Office, BGC, Sta. Clara, Lamitan City, Basilan.

The MAFAR- FAO have already conducted their first distribution of starter kits to the identified qualified Community-Based Organizations in the province last December 7, 2021 in line with their collaborative project, "The Project for Agricultural Training for the Establishment of Peace in Mindanao" that has a purpose of improving the agricultural and vocational skills of farmer and fisherfolk in the Bangsamoro and other post-conflict areas in Mindanao, which they can use for their own agriculture-based livelihoods and employment.

The activity was conducted online via zoom platform together with the FAO Representative Ms. Kati Tanninen, MAFAR Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D; Dr. Daud K. Lagasi, Bangsamoro Director General for Agriculture, and with the Provincial Directors and concerned staffs of the Province of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Moreover, the reading of the Memorandum of Understanding between the MAFAR- FAO and CBO's and Reading of the accountability clause to affected population, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse by the MAFAR- Basilan Program Assistant and FAO Coordinator Mr. Ilmie Ibama.

The awarding and distribution of starter kits was conducted and spearheaded by the MAFAR- Basilan Provincial Director Hanie Muadz A. Junuban, MPA, JD together with the Chief Agriculturist Datu Fadh Jaljalis.

The kits distributed includes: Hand Tractor with Trailer, Portable Welding Machine, Basic Repair Tools and Packets of Assorted Vegetable Seeds.

In addition, after the distribution is the conduct of signing of Certificate of Acceptance, MOU and Deed of Conditional Donation between MAFAR and Community-Based Organizations.

MAFAR-FAO continues distribution of Seaweeds seedlings to the CBOs beneficiaries in BaSulTa area.

The provincial MAFAR training management team headed by Provincial Director Dr. Aidarus I. Nami together with his colleagues delivered the one thousand five hundred (1,500) kilograms of Seaweed Nursery and Seedlings to three successful Community based organizations namely Kasambuhan Sin Raayat Sumangat in Bongao, Seaweed Fisherfolk Markering Cooperative, and Sumbilang Farmers and Fisherfolks Association in Brgy Buan, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi respectively.

This project is being implemented by MAFAR under the able leadership of Minister Dr. Mohammad S. Yacob with Special Projects entitled "Project for Agricultural Training for the Establishment of Sustainable Peace in Mindanao" with funding support from the good people of Japan.

MAFAR-UNFAO Provincial Training and Distribution of Livelihood Starter Kits in Tawi-Tawi

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR โ€“ BARMM) in partnership of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) funded by the People of Japan conducted the remaining batches of Trainings and Distribution of Starter Kits in Tawi-Tawi on December 1-10, 2021

901JPN FAO-UN Project Team Leader Dr. Ruben B. Miranda, MAFAR BDG for Agriculture Services Dr. Daud K. Lagasi, and Regional Project Coordinator Toto D. Laguialaot closely supervised all the remaining batches of training activities conducted together with the three training courses conducted by MSU Tawi-Tawi as partner Service Provider for crops processing, meat processing, and training on aquaculture production.

The Agricultural training and starter kit distribution for the Bangsamoro farmers and fisherfolks in Bongao and Panglima Sugala were successfully undertaken with the help of the MAFAR Provincial office headed by PD Dr. Aidarus I. Nami and MSU Tawi-Tawi College of Fisheries, Dean Dr. Jurma Tikmasan.

Furthermore, the provincial massive awarding ceremony of an agricultural farming starter kit was successfully distributed to the sixteen (16) qualified CBOs beneficiaries who have been undergone with agricultural training course in the province.

Our deepest gratitude to OIC Bensaik Limandong, to the Regional Fisheries Research Center Focal Nursarif Maulana for their supports and for the training venue, and to the LGUs of Tawi-Tawi for their commitment of support.

Director Daud's message was centered on CBOs recipients on how they manage their farm machinery received by applying their learnings from the training attended like for instance operations and maintenance policies of the certain organization. He said that position is not a privilege but it's a responsibility.

Dr. Ruben Miranda also encouraged the CBO beneficiaries to manage the livelihoods starter kits properly and this is not the last distribution, it will be having a more awarding starter kit distribution part 2. He also mentioned the possibility of coming new projects by March next year by adding more LGU partner and organized CBO recipients. Insha Allah rahman.

MAFAR-FAO Project Implementing Team manages Agricultural Training Workshop to Farmers and Fisherfolks in the Island Provinces of BARMM

Bongao, Tawi-Tawi - The partnership project for "Agricultural Training for the Establishment of Peace in Mindanao (OSRO/PHI/JPN)" is underway to complete the implementation of twenty-six (26) batches of training with ten (10) training courses such as ;
i) High yield production technologies for rice, corn and vegetables
ii) High yield production technologies for coffee, cacao and cassava
iii) Organic agriculture for crop production
iv) Pest management for high value commercial vegetables
v) Farm machinery operation and maintenance in the Island Provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi,BARMM.

As of this writing, 400 out of 520 Bangsamoro CBOs beneficiaries were capacitated from the twenty (20) batches of training courses implemented with participants consist of Bangsamoro Farmers and Fisherfolks including decommissioned and to be decommissioned combatants, IPs, women, out-of-school youth, and former JICA MD-LIP project beneficiary from the municipalities/ cities of Lamitan City and Isabela City in the province of Basilan, Jolo and Patikul in the province of Sulu, and Bongao and Panglima Sugala in the Province of Tawi-Tawi respectively.

The training workshop was designed to enhance the agricultural vocational and management skills of Bangsamoro farmers and fisherfolks in the region, which they can use for their own agriculture-based livelihoods and agri-entrepreneur employment.

The project training management team spearheaded by MAFAR Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., Bangsamoro Director General Pendatun S. Patarasa, JAPAN-FAO Project Team Leader Ruben A. Miranda Regional Project Coordinator Toto D. Laguialaot, MAFAR Provincial management teams headed by three Provincial Director namely: Dr. Aidarus I. Nami of Tawi-Tawi, Engr. Alfie U. Iribani of Sulu, and Hanie Muadz Junuban of Basilan for their technical and management assistance to the project implementation.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) under the able leadership of MP Minister Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D. is committed to serve the farmers and fisherfolks in the whole region to attain food security, nutrition and to sustain the gains of the Bangsamoro struggle.

A total of 292 bags of tilapia finisher feeds were distributed to Community-Based Organization at Brgy. The activity was carried out by the MAFAR Special Projects represented by Ms. Ivy Jamairah Alano-Ulangkaya, Fisheries Production Division Regional Office Mr. Abdul Unggui, MAFAR-Maguindanao represented by Program Assistant for Fisheries Mr. Solaiman T. Alid, OIC-MMO Monzir Nor and MAFC Alfatah Khalid.

FAO Project Field Asst. Mr. Haron John Abdul in his statement encourages the recipient to take care of the feeds and make use of it according to the required feeding rate.

Meanwhile, Aquaculture Specialist Mr. Abdul Unggui shared his knowledge on proper feeding managment for the cultured tilapia to attain optimum growth. He added, tilapia cultured in cages shall be taken care of by regular cleaning of the net cages to avoid accumulation of debris inorder to maintain good water circulation that helps in achieving fast growth of the cultured fish.

Joint distribution of tilapia finisher feeds monitoring of floating fish cages and tilapia fingerlings | 27 October 2021

Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture (FAO) project funded from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) distributed 292 bags of tilapia finisher feeds to the Community-Based Organization (CBOs) in Datu Montawal, North Cotabato.

According to FAO Project field assistant, Haron John Abdul the project aims is to contribute to the attainment of sustainable peace and development and inclusive growth in Mindanao through support to the improvement of agriculture and fisheries-based livelihoods and accelerated agriculture-based enterprises.

Abdul S. Unggui, Aquaculture Specialist of FPD encouraged the beneficiaries to manage well the feed assistance and always monitor the tilapia fingerlings and fish cages to maintain good production.

The said activity was ettended by OIC MAFAR Municipal Officer Satar T. Buisan, farm worker Samra Saludo, MAFAR-Maguindanao Program Assistant for fisheries Solaiman T. Alid and MAFAR Special Projects staff.
