In 1912, the Reserved Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) was established.

The first ROTC unit was born with the establishment of the Department of Military Science and Tactics at the University of the Philippines in July 3, 1922. And it only became mandatory after 13 years when President Manuel Quezon signed Commonwealth Act 1, also known as the National Defense Act of 1935.

It was disbanded and demobilized after the World War II since the country could not afford to keep a large military force without depleting its resources. But later restored in 1967 as a mandatory program by President Ferdinand Marcos, who was a product of ROTC class 1937 with Executive Order 59.

Since the National Service Training Program Act of 2001 was passed, said program was no longer a mandatory but an optional program for the college students.

1203 CDC CONDUCTS FAMILIARIZATION FIRING OF RSCT AND ARAPT

29 August 2022, Personnel of 1203 CDC led by LTC ANDOLONG D DURADO (INF) PA, Director in collaboration with SME and Range NCO of DTS, 6ID, PA facilitated the practical exercises to the sixty two (62) Advance Officers on the first batch Familiarization Firing of Cal 5.56mm Rifle and Cal .45 Pistol held at DTS, 6ID, PA Firing Range, Brgy Semba, DOS, Maguindanao.

The activity aims to boost their confidence in handling fi****ms and sharpen their marksmanship skills. It will also enhanced their discipline in handling weapons following the cardinal rules of safety.

Army personnel who handle Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) programs of higher educational institutions are serving as model instructors to cadets, Reserve Command, Philippine Army (RCPA) Commander Maj. Gen. Fernando V. Felipe said in a forum that gathered Mindanao-based reserve unit commanders at Camp Riego de Dios, Tanza, Cavite on August 16, 2022.
