“Pacific Squall” is a 14 x 16” canvas board in acrylics. For six months in my youth I worked on a salmon boat out of Fort Bragg CA and I was always fascinated by watching these small squalls scoot around on an otherwise sunny day. I also found the almost entirely blue palette a good challenge for today.

"Dawn Greets the Overnight Train" 18 x 24" acrylics on canvas. The early sunrise light floods the train compartment as a young woman listens to music and meets the new day.
“Bainbridge Ferry” is an 18 x 24” canvas created with acrylics. The ferry operates from Seattle to the island and as you can see wasn’t terribly busy this particular day. I was drawn to the interplay between colors and light and shadow as well as the solitary figure
A study for a larger canvas, this is a 9” x 12” canvas in acrylics. The proposed title for the larger project is “Dawning on the Overnight Train” Much tougher than I envisioned especially with my inability to render accurate faces. I love the light from her blouse reflecting up under her chin, the cool shadow line from the window. I can see I need to build the entire canvas around her face but the rest of the background is pretty minimalistic.
This the 22nd day of 30/30 days painting and the lesson for today was to paint a human subject (which I generally avoid) and I feel good that I tried. Onward 8 days left.
This 12 x 18" canvas was a practice piece yesterday but there is something I like about it. "Lunch Cart"
“Yellow House on Brooks Road” is a 24 x 18” canvas created with acrylic paints. It was just a fun project of simplicity and some dramatic shadows.
"Beau Finds Shade" is a 14 x 18" canvas created with acrylic paints. Fun to paint something with a dog in it.
"Peruvian Market" 12 x 12" canvas, acrylic paints
"Room in the Afternoon" is a 18 x 24" inch canvas, acrylic paints. This was a much tougher project than I anticipated but glad I took a stab at it.
"Marrakesh" a 14 x 16 canvas board acrylic painting. Just something to keep the brush in hand, quick and fun.
Thanks for visiting or following my art page. It has been very hot and humid this past week and we are never far from a fan. I finally began painting again after unpacking from our move to Dipolog. Here is a painting I did several weeks ago just before the move. 14 x 20" on canvas board "Kettering Laundry" is an homage to Edward Hopper's style.
Some thoughts on art
Well it's been months since I had a good enough connection to update this page. So I will try and keep up with it much more. Here is a painting I did during my hiatus
Today I painted a quick study of a stone house's broken corner
Just finished this for today I am beginning to obsess over it. Time to set it aside, do something else because I will get nuts. 18 x 24" canvas acrylic "Cracow" Feedback welcomed
This 11.5 x 16" painting on watercolor paper is titled "Crevice Notch". It was done as a quick practice piece but it has become a favorite of mine adorning our refrigerator for almost a year before moving to a shelf in the living room. Some things are just unexpected joys.
"Bougainvillea on Avites Street" is an 18 x 24" canvas created with acrylic paints. It is a scene from St Augustine, Florida but in my mind it could be from almost anywhere.
"Nash Point Lighthouse" 18 x 24" canvas created with acrylics. I have always been interested in lighthouses and rarely fail to visit them during my travels. A beacon in the night to guide us, and offer hope. NFS
This is a street scene from St. Augustine, but in my mind it might be anywhere. Titled "Bougainvillea on Aviles Street" this 18 x 24" canvas is available. Fun colors and perspective.
This 12 x 16" acrylic painting is on canvas board. Titled "Alaskan Mooring"
This is the most recent canvas 18 x 24' created with acrylic paints. It is titled "Wiltshire Walk" and went through several phases before ending up as you see it now.
"Miller's Farm" is a 20 x 30" canvas in acrylics. Here are some of the progressional stages of the work. Available
ARTJAM DIPOLOG
In what amounts to my first public exhibit while very short lived ( 2 hours ) I had a good time. Here in the Philippines there have been tough restrictions on gatherings for the last 2 years so it was refreshing to assemble in public. I did not have any sales but visitor reaction was strong as was feedback from the other artists displaying work. I hope this is the beginning of better things to come. I only had a few days to put together the display and almost no money so I screwed the frames together and used a laundry rack as a internal support. There was music and this is located on Sunset Blvd. in Dipolog, it poured earlier in the day and I think it dampened the crowd, hoping for better weather in the next one.
