• INSPECTION TEAM: CITY VETERINARY OFFICE MEAT INSPECTION TEAM LED BY MR. JM TOLENTINO AND MR. NILO SOQUEÑA.
• INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: DURING MEAT INSPECTORS DAILY POST ABATTOIR INSPECTION MONITORING CONDUCTED ON AUGUST 2, 2024 A TOTAL OF 6.68 KG OF PROCESSED MEAT WERE CONFISCATED IN STALL # F49 DUE TO MISHANDLED MEAT.
• REASON FOR CONFISCATION/CONDEMNATION: THE ITEMS WERE FOUND OUT TO BE MISHANDLED DUE TO PROCESSED MEAT ARE STORED IN A DIRTY CRATES AND DIRECTLY PLACED IN THE FLOOR WHERE THE FLOOR IS WET, DIRTY AND WITH SCATTERED DIRT THE ITEM WAS CONFISCATED AND REMOVED FROM THE MARKET FOR PROPER DISPOSAL.
• ACTION TAKEN:
1. NOTIFICATION: THE INCIDENT WAS PROMPTLY REPORTED TO THE EEDM MARKET PERSONNEL ON DUTY.
2. ASSISTANCE IN CONDEMNATION: THE EEDM MARKET PERSONNEL ASSISTED IN THE REMOVAL FROM THE MARKET.
3. DISPOSAL: THE CONDEMNED ITEMS WERE PROPERLY DISPOSED, ACCOMPANIED BY A CONDEMNATION SLIP TO DOCUMENT THE ACTION.


• FURTHER RECOMMENTIONS:
1. STRICTLY IMPOSE HYGIENIC PROPER HANDLING OF MEAT PRODUCT FOR SELLING.
a.1 STORE MEAT PRODUCT IN A CLEAN AND SANITIZED CRATES.
a.2 PRACTICE FOOD SAFETY HANDLING 6 INCHES ABOVE THE FLOOR BY USING CLEAN AND SANITIZED PALLET OR BOTTOM CRATES.
2. AVOID OVER DISPLAY OF CHILLED MEAT PRODUCTS IN A UNCONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT TO PREVENT FROM RAPID SPOILAGE.

Ang leptospirosis ay isang seryosong zoonotic na sakit na maaaring makaapekto sa inyong mga alagang hayop at sa inyo. Mahalagang maging maingat sa sakit na ito, lalo na sa panahon ng tag-ulan kung saan mas mataas ang panganib.

**Ano ang Leptospirosis?**
Ang leptospirosis ay isang bacterial infection na maaaring maipasa mula sa mga hayop patungo sa mga tao. Ang inyong mga mahal na alagang hayop ay maaaring makakuha ng sakit na ito at maipasa ito sa inyo at sa inyong pamilya.

**Paano Ito Maiiwasan?**
Ang magandang balita ay maaaring maiwasan ang leptospirosis sa pamamagitan ng pagbabakuna:
- Para sa mga a*o, tiyakin na sila ay makatanggap ng kanilang **5-in-1 na bakuna**.
- Para sa mga pusa, bagaman mas hindi sila tinatamaan ng leptospirosis, maaari pa rin silang magdala ng sakit na ito.

Ang regular na pagbabakuna ay susi sa pagpapanatili ng kalusugan ng inyong mga alagang hayop at protektahan ang inyong tahanan.

These are the new suggestions.
Different breeds have different needs.
Recommend ages of spay/neuter by breed.

Researchers at U C -Davis have released updated research and guidelines about spaying and neutering specific breeds of dogs to try to avoid health risks. This builds on their 2020 research.
Nothing is absolute for all dogs across the board, but these guidelines should be considered when discussing spaying or neutering YOUR specific dog with your veterinarian.

We have come a long way from the blanket recommendation of spay and neuter all dogs around 6 months of age. Yes, there are some health concerns (such as mammary cancer) with not spaying, but preventative health checks should be performed at least annually.

BTW, there are 2 breeds where the recommendations are to leave the dogs intact!
