RISING FROM THE RANKS
The University of Mindanao College of Engineering Education congratulates Dr. Chosel Lawagon, a faculty of the Chemical Engineering Program for bagging the Green Talents Award during the International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Dr. Chosel Lawagon is the Director of the Center for Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions, and a faculty of the Chemical Engineering Program in the University of Mindanao. Together with the UM College of Engineering Education and College of Arts and Sciences Education, she is researching on the effects of landfill leachate in Davao River.
Among the 467 applicants from 78 countries around the world, she was one of the 25 chosen to present before a panel of German experts. As such, she will be travelling to Germany next year to partner with her chosen German institution to continue her research.
The UM College of Engineering Education is proud of your achievement. Truly, you manifest the University's vision of rising among the ranks!

The Engineering Research Congress 2020 is an annual research competition of the College of Engineering Education, University of Mindanao, Davao City, Philippines. This aims to build and strengthen the culture of research among the students and faculty in the College of Engineering.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
A. ELIGIBILITY
All engineering undergraduate students in the College of Engineering Education (CEE) who have conducted research are eligible to submit entries for the competition. A student or a group of students is allowed to submit one research project and should be the original work of the participating student-researchers. Deadline of submission of entries is on February 23, 2020.
The researchers are required to present and to discuss their project posters or prototypes to the panel of judges during the competition. Presenters must wear business attire.
••••Guidelines for Prototype Competition••••
All prototypes should be exhibited in the morning (8:00 AM) on February 28, 2020. The researchers are required to prepare tarpaulin which provides details about their research following IEEE format. The organizing committee shall designate posting venue and provide tables for the prototypes. Participants shall bring extension cords, if necessary.
I. Criteria and Judging
The Judges will be provided with research rubrics for judging. Entries shall be judged according to scholarly criteria:
Applicability (35%)
Innovation (30%)
Technical Soundness (25%)
Oral Presentation (10%)
Entries shall be judged by a panel of at least two judges. The judges’ decision shall be final and not subject to appeal.
••••Guidelines for Research Poster••••
Poster shall be in IEEE format. It should be readable from a distance, attractive, well-organized, self-explanatory, and should present only the main ideas. Do not overwhelm the audience with cluttered data or explanations. The purpose of a poster is to illustrate an explanation of the research to a viewer. The researchers must be present throughout the Congress.
I. The guidelines for the preparation of the poster are the following:
1. SIZE. The whole poster should be presented in a 70” (height) x 33” (width) tarpaulin.
2. TEXT LETTERING. Use simple fonts and sizes that are at least 20 points (about 6 mm high).
3. TEXT COLORS. There shall be no restrictions on the numbers of colors. Dark type on light, plain background is easiest to read. Tips: Good two-color combinations are black on white, black on yellow, black on pink, dark red on white, dark blue on white, and dark blue on yellow.
4. ILLUSTRATIONS. Figures, charts and graphs should be at least 5” x 7” (12.5 cm x 18 cm). Captions and labels on diagrams should be readable from two meters away, and not cluttered with unnecessary details. Diagrams and graphs should have no more than 6 lines in contrasting colors. Use only one vertical scale per graph. Graphs are preferable to tables.
5. ORGANIZATION. The design should flow sequentially from one part to the next. Numbers or arrows may be used to help the eye move from the item in the correct order. Left to right, top to bottom. Do not clutter with either texts or artworks.
6. ELEMENTS OF A POSTER
