Effective March 19, 2024, the Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia together with Ecoteneo, Madaris Volunteer Program (MVP) and Malnutrition Alternative (MIA) are already under the supervision and oversight of the Ateneo de Davao's University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (ADDU UCEAC).

This transfer from under the Office of the President to UCEAC was formalized through the release of University Memorandum No. 2024--027 from the Office of the University President, Rev. Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ which aimed to consolidate all engagement and advocacy efforts of the university. The same memo also announced the reappointment of the center directors and members of the council headed by the Chairperson, Mr. Mark Paul "Macoy" Samante.

The Al Qalam Institute headed by Executive Director Datu Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan welcomes and supports this development in the organizational structure of the university. Working with the council and its member centers and programs is no longer new to Al Qalam as it had been engaging UCEAC in almost all of its engagements with its local, national and international stakeholders through its programs, projects and activities (PPAs) implemented for its partners communities in Mindanao.

TD VISIT 2024

Sharing with you some captured moments of the Grade 10 students' Tulong-Dunong Program from sections Pignatelli, Regis, and Xavier at Matina Elementary School (MAES). During this visit, our G10 students dedicated themselves in imparting their knowledge in both Math and English to the Grade 6 students at MAES. In the same way, our students learned how to become teachers to their students (tutees) by accompanying them in this formative partnership.

"Only by being a man-or-woman-for-others does one become fully human..."

ARRUPE MONTH LONG CELEBRATION| FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES

Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ was the embodiment of love and service in the years he served the Society of Jesus. His story has inspired people to live with a faith that pursues justice and become Persons for Others, especially for the poor and vulnerable. As part of our mission to promote a faith that does justice and to strengthen one's faith in God and one another, the University delegates the month of February to celebrate with gratitude the life and legacy of Fr. Pedro Arrupe SJ.

In this light, the Junior High School (JHS) through the initiative of the Ignatian Spirituality Formation Office (ISFO) will be participating and conducting various social formation activities in coordination with all units focusing on the theme โ€œLiving Magis, Loving More.โ€ It is very fitting as Fr. Arrupe lived magis through love and service, the JHS community can pray and reflect on how to live and love in this D-VUCAD world. We can ask how to still love in times of trouble and despair. How to stay in love in situations of difficulties brought by the post-pandemic, conflict, opposition, persecution, threats to life and freedom, environmental degradation, abuse of power, poverty, and economic and social inequalities? How to find and love God in all things, even in seemingly hopeless situations?

The Arrupe Office of Social Formation (AOSF) in the JHS take this celebration as essential in forming AdDU sui generis leaders and pursue social justice that brings forth peace. The activities planned below feature various social formation interventions involving all units, specifically its administrators, faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and communities, dialogue among alumni, and sharing stories of love and service that withstood trials and tribulations in society today.

"For it is only by being man and woman for others does one become fully human."

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Today, we pause to remember the remarkable life of Fr. Pedro Arrupe, Servant of God.

His legacy of love, service, and magis continues to inspire us. As we reflect on his journey, let's carry his vision forward in our hearts and actions.

TD New Year Fellowship 2024|

Sharing some captured moments from the student-initiated fellowship at Matina Elementary School held on January 5, 2024. Classes from 10-REGIS, 10-Pignatelli, and 10-Xavier collaborated for a meaningful New Year celebration with their tutees. They organized mini activities, including serenades, parlor games, and shared food with the students.

Truly, the activity embodied the essence of Gaudium Et Spes paragraph 24, stating, 'man cannot fully find himself except through a sincere gift of himself.'

Kudos to our G10 students! Keep up the good work!

STAY IN LOVE

Nothing is more practical than
finding God, than
falling in Love
in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,
what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.
It will decide
what will get you out of bed in the morning,
what you do with your evenings,
how you spend your weekends,
what you read, whom you know,
what breaks your heart,
and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.
Fall in Love, stay in love,
and it will decide everything.
