VALENTINE'S DAY IS NOT ABOUT MAGJO-JOWA.
Let's find out what Valentine's day is all about.
In recent days I have been reading articles from non-Catholics regarding the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day,
"The celebration of Valentine's Day should not be celebrated because it originated from the Feast of the Pagans called Lupercalia. This celebration was only invented by Catholic priests to perpetuate paganism."
First and Foremost, let’s just make it clear that anti-Catholics don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day not because it’s Paganism, but because St. Valentine is a Martyr of the Catholic Church and not of Protestantism.
Second, Lupercalia is celebrated every February 15 by offering goats and dogs and various animals. It’s a far cry compared to Valentine’s Day.
The Celebration of VALENTINE’S DAY was designated by the Catholic Church in commemoration of the DEATH of St. Valentine on February 14, 269 A.D. at the hands of the Pagan Romans.
WHO IS SAN VALENTINO?
St. Valentine was a Priest who served in Rome during the reign of Emperor Claudius II (268-270 A.D.), the period when persecution of Christians in Rome was rampant.
At this time Emperor Claudius II forbade the communion of the Roman soldiers in the belief that it would only hinder their duty, which in turn was opposed by St. Valentine.
San Valentino was one of those who quietly acted then to spread Christianity in their area by celebrating mass inside the caves and by conducting the Sacrament of Marriage for Soldiers and lovers. He also secretly treated Christians who had been victims of persecution during the reign of Emperor Claudius II.
Because of the good deeds he did his name became famous in Rome which led to him being quickly identified and arrested by Roman soldiers and imprisoned.
