"Pegtanggew"
In commemoration of Philippine Environment Month, on June 29-30, 2024, the PAGLAUM Philanthropic Development Office of the Missionaries of the Assumption (m.a. PAGLAUM) launched a fruit tree planting initiative, established a fruit tree nursery, and distributed vegetable seeds in Toruyan, Barangay Tamugan, Marilog District, Davao City. This initiative, in partnership with the community of Toruyan and named “Pegtanggew”—a Matigsalog word for nurturing—aims to address tree scarcity and contribute to the nutritional needs of children and the broader community. The project embodies the core advocacies of the Missionaries of the Assumption (m.a.), particularly in caring for the Earth and supporting women and children.
m.a. PAGLAUM extends heartfelt gratitude to the personnel and students of Assumption College of Davao (ACD) and Assumption Polytechnic College in Southern Mindanao (APCSM), PAGLAUM Volunteers, and ACD Alumni for their invaluable contributions to the implementation of Pegtanggew. Thanks to P.E.A.C.E Summit Advocates (Preserving Earth and Climbing for Equilibrium) for their significant role in developing the concept. Special thanks to the third-year ACD SHS students, led by Sir John Paul Wong, for raising funds to purchase 170 fruit tree seedlings. We also appreciate ACD College Batch 2024, under the guidance of Sir Melvin Jay Canoy, and the ACD Alumni Affairs for their generous donations. Our gratitude extends to the Community Engagement Services Office, led by Sir Mark Bennylu Buenaobra, for inviting volunteers and providing material support. We are thankful to the BED-PTA for sponsoring farm tools and transportation expenses.
A sincere acknowledgment to the Department of Agriculture for providing vegetable seeds. Thank you to Mam Ellen Estacaan for generously contributing assorted vegetable seeds and used clothing.
We are grateful to individual donors for their financial contributions, to those who facilitated connections with other individuals and organizations for support, and to everyone who offered moral, material, and technical support in bringing Pegtanggew to fruition. We extend our deepest gratitude to all involved.
“Pegtanggew” is just the beginning and opens the door to our long-term goal of addressing the socio-economic welfare of the Toruyan community. We, at m.a. PAGLAUM, look forward to your continued support in this mission.

PAGLAUM-PDO), along with volunteers from the personnel of Assumption College of Davao (ACD) and Assumption Polytechnic College in Southern Mindanao (APCSM), will launch the Project Toruyan.
Project Toruyan entails Fruit Tree Nurturing and Vegetable Seeds Dispersal in the community of the Matigsalog Tribe in Sitio Toruyan, Barangay Tamugan, Davao City. This project is scheduled for the Environment Month, on June 29-30, 2024. On March 2-3, 2024, the Training-Workshop on Theater Arts was conducted, facilitated by Ferdie Dimaano, Dina Mabaquiao-Miclat, and Dr. Gerry Miclat from the Yapak ng Salinlahi of Australia. The two-day training sessions were successful in process and content, resulting in the satisfaction of the 13 participants as their expectations were met.
This training resulted in the revival of the Sining Tuburan group in partnership with the PAGLAUM Philanthropic Development Office (PAGLAUM PDO). After the training, the initial plans were discussed, such as creating productions to be showcased in communities.
The said training took place when Yapak ng Salinlahi offered to conduct a training during their vacation in Davao City. PAGLAUM-PDO eagerly accepted this offer because it recognized the importance of theater in promoting its advocacies and educating beneficiaries who will be reached through the apostolate of the Missionaries of the Assumption.
Many thanks to Ferdie, Dina, and Dr. Gerry for your patience and unwavering dedication in sharing your expertise in theater arts. Also, heartfelt thanks to those who provided financial donations for the food, namely June Sanches, Cha Dela Cruz, Rohani Loyola, Kent Ampeloquio, Yudan Jiro Castillo, Frank Ingles, and Jorge Manzanillo. A big thank you to Daisy Apat for coordinating with Yapak in successfully launching this training.
Many thanks to Sr. Flora Secuya, m.a., for her encouragement, highlighting the benefits of art in self-expression and personal growth. Many thanks to the Sisters of the Missionaries of the Assumption, including Sr. Etta Banayo, Sr. Luz Mallo, and Sr. Celi Fonacier, for their presence during the final showcase and for their encouragement to the participants.
Onward to the participants, despite the weariness, they still managed to enjoy themselves, and their talents truly shine until the final showcase: Angel Faye Mamites, Antonio Apat, Dandie Fernandez, Danica Peralta, Dolores Darling Curay, Faith Grace Rosales, Ivy Crestel Deloy, Jasper Gonzaga, Marilou Silang, Marisol Go, Mesheal Mullot, Nel John Bandojo, Sunshine Corpuz.
On March 8, 2024, the PAGLAUM Philanthropic Development Office (PAGLAUM-PDO), in collaboration with the personnel of Assumption Polytechnic College of Southern Mindanao (APCSM) led by Mam Jenny-ssel Sarino, OIC Principal, and Sr. Aurea P. Quiñones, M.A., attended an online orientation conducted by Waves for Water Philippines (W4W) in the audio-visual room of APCSM. The online orientation was facilitated by Shara Dimalaluan, W4W Program Management Officer, who demonstrated how to assemble the water filter and explained its usage.
W4W Philippines donated 32 water filters and water tumblers to PAGLAUM-PDO, thanks to the referral by KINAIYAHAN-YCJM. These water filters and tumblers will be distributed to flood survivors, primarily farmers from Barangay Waan and Sitio Sta. Marina in Buhangin District, Davao City, on March 15, 2024. Personnel from APCSM who attended the online orientation will also conduct orientations for the recipients.
Sta. Marina and Waan received food relief efforts from the joint collaboration of PAGLAUM-PDO and APCSM on January 20 and February 24, following the flash floods that affected those areas and nearby communities.
Their words of thanks and smiles lighten the heart, despite the pain and difficulties they've experienced. Losing loved ones, homes, and livelihood, some of them still carry lingering fears. Yet, hope radiates in their eyes and hearts, anticipating a rise from the challenges.
The Missionaries of the Assumption PAGLAUM Philanthropic Development Office (m.a. PAGLAUM) will be joining the Dagyaw Relief Network in a Relief Mission and Psychosocial Intervention (PSI) on February 24, 2024. PAGLAUM relies on resources from those with compassionate hearts to help the poor, especially those affected by calamities. Because of this, we appeal to you for your financial donation for food relief for the survivors of the devastating landslide in Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro.

The Missionaries of the Assumption (m.a.) are consecrated women called to live a life of service in the Church as Society of Apostolic Life (SAL). Founded on April 1, 1989, they commit themselves to live in community as witnesses to the Incarnate Christ and His option for the poor in today's world. As an apostolic community, they discern and participate in apostolic activities in solidarity with the poor. They are engaged with the poor in their struggle for justice, full life, and total human liberation. They participate in missionary works that bring about the restoration of harmony and balance in the life systems of Mother Earth.
As Missionaries of the Assumption, they are called out to live-out the Spirituality of Mary's Assumption, which is a spirituality of hope that is guided in God's compassion for the poor, revealed in and through Jesus.
In actualizing the mission, the m.a. manages schools of quality transformative education from basic to higher institutions of learning, including technical education, and indigenous peoples' education equipped with research, advocacy, and community engagement service capabilities. It also has ministries and apostolates in partnership with the parishes, non-government and people's organizations for indigenous peoples, women's rights, justice and peace, and ecological integrity.
