Davao to host inaugural event of PBWx series on July 30 Mindanao's longest-running community newspaper

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Honorary Life Chairman and one of the Founders of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Sebastian 'Angie' L. Angliongto.

He had undoubtedly played a pivotal role in driving the city's economic progress. His profound knowledge and wisdom have left an indelible mark on the business community, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.

During this challenging moment, we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

Families in business represented by their Now-Gen and Next-Gen Leaders successfully completed the third of six sessions of The FamBiz Masterclass, “How to Leave a Legacy of Harmony and Abundance,” with the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. and Premier Family Business Consulting, Inc. last July 19, 2024, at the DCCCII Office.

Mr. Jonathan ‘Jon’ Ramos, Founder and CEO of Premier Family, emphasized the importance of understanding ‘wealth’ in building a legacy of harmony and abundance. The discussion especially highlighted the “Stewardship Model,” which family businesses can emulate for their empowerment and future success.

Davao City Chamber and ICT Davao, Inc. paid a visit to Secretary Leo Magno of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) to seek support for their flagship events, the 26th Davao Agri Trade Expo and Innovation Summit 2024. The team headed by the Davao Chamber President, Ms. Belinda L. Torres, was warmly received by Secretary Magno, who expressed the government's gratitude towards the private sector for spearheading initiatives that foster innovation and technology adoption within the business community.

The shared vision between DCCCII and MinDA, which focuses on driving economic growth and enhancing innovation, digital transformation in agribusiness, and human capital development across Mindanao through various initiatives and interventions was the highlight of the discussion. This collaboration is set to bring significant advancements and opportunities for the business community, further solidifying Mindanao's position as a hub of agricultural production, innovation, and economic growth.

One of the best ways we mitigate vulnerabilities, other than innovating and improving, is to go back to our most basic processes and ensure we instill best practices. Last Friday’s session, “Accounting 101: Fundamentals of Bookkeeping” with the expertise of Mr. Marc John Guiab, P&A Grant Thornton’s Director and Head of Accounting – Business Process Solution, was a refresher of the most essential business processes, especially those involving financial data.

The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., in partnership with P&A Grant Thornton, successfully held this session as part of the steadfast dedication of empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, as part of the MSME Week 2024 Celebration.

In line with this year’s celebration, the Davao City Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Council, through the proclamation of the City Government of Davao’s Executive Order No. 14, s. 2023, will hold its own 𝗠𝗦𝗠𝗘 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, themed, " 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗦𝗠𝗘𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵," taking place on 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟴-𝟭𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰.

In an age where material assets are fiercely protected, the question arises: why not offer the same level of security for our data, especially when it is crucial to our businesses? On June 28, 2024, the Davao Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) addressed this pressing concern during its 6th General Membership Meeting (GMM) held at the Dusit Thani Hotel, drawing in over a hundred attendees.

Mr. Allan Ayeras, a distinguished resource speaker from IT Group, Inc., underscored the significant risks posed by cyber attacks. He provided invaluable insights on how businesses can "cyberproof" their operations and secure their data, emphasizing the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures.

DCCCII, in its unwavering commitment to serve the business community and advocate for digital transformation, encourages Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to prioritize data security. Protecting their largest and most valuable asset—data—will not only safeguard the business but also foster a sense of reliability and security among partners and consumers. This, in turn, will attract more opportunities for growth, ultimately leading to scalability and expansion.

One of the key takeaway fron this month's GMM is encapsulated through the saying, "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and few minutes of cyber-incident to ruin it."

Davao City Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc. signed a Training Partnership Agreement with Punongbayan & Araullo Grant Thornton today, June 24, 2024, at DCCCII Office, Business Development Center. This partnership intends to hold a series of trainings on matters of tax, accounting, audit, outsourcing, and advisory matters on sustainability, risk, and resilience management, among others, to strengthen the capabilities of the business community.
