We passed last yearโs vibe checkโand astonishingly so!
Of the forty-three (43) undergraduate degree programs offered by the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), seven programs have been designated by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as Center of Excellence (COE), according to the 2022 Annual Report published by the Office of Public Information (OPI) earlier this year.
These programs having the status of COE include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Teacher Education.
It gets better from here! Three programs have newly gained Center of Development (COD) distinction: Information Systems, Computer Science, and Computer Applications. These come in addition to the eleven already recognized programs: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Ceramics Engineering, Marine Science, Statistics, Filipino, History, Sociology, and Information Technology.
The CHED confers Center of Excellence status to departments within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that demonstrate excellent performance in the areas of instruction, research and publication, extension and linkages, and institutional qualifications. It also grants Center of Development status to departments that demonstrate the potential to become a Center of Excellence.
These achievements, along with stellar performance in board exams, strong research and academic collaboration, and leadership in areas of community extension, mirror the university's core values of honor and excellence, service and compassion, and resilience and innovationโwhich have made MSU-IIT a renowned institution for higher learning that it is today.

The proposed MCR-funded Research entitled "Determination of Rainwater Volume Collected from Roof Buildings for Appropriate Design of Rainwater Storage Capacity and its Utilization in MSU-IIT" has been approved!
This project aims to mitigates the flooding problem inside MSU-IIT Campus and helps conserve water and water expenses by using harvested rainwater for purposes of sanitation, greenery maintenance and fire control. Specifically, to:
1. Come up with a rainwater harvesting technology design that has the maximum storage capacity equivalent to a monthly rainfall during the rainy season to be installed in each building in MSU-IIT and is easy to clean and maintain.
2. Materialize a suitable roof drainage design integrated with a filtering system that effectively catches all accumulated rainwater and debris from building rooftops and acts as an inlet to each buildingโs designated rainwater storage tank.
3. Design an overhead pump system in each rainwater storage tank as a mechanism to lift water for distribution for sanitation purposes, fire control, and greenery maintenance.
4. Design a hydrant with faucet in each rainwater storage tank for fire control and greenery maintenance as part of the utilization and disposal system design.
5. Create a flood mitigation model after rainwater has been harvested.
6. Develop a tripartite systematic plan that involves management, implementation, and investment of the rainwater harvesting project in MSU-IIT.
