Third year was its own level of daunting, but as we always say, gold bends but never breaks. As we journey towards our goals, may we be relentless in our pursuit, exhibit prowess in our actions, and remain hopeful as we strive to become the best doctors we can be for all the Nong Pedros we have yet to meet.
Continue to be stubbornly persistent in your dreams, AUREUM, and no matter what we face, know that we'll always have each other.
On to the next.
Urgent Call for Donations: Aid for Farmers Affected by Mt. Kanlaon Eruption
Yesterday, June 3, Mt. Kanlaon on Negros Island experienced a significant eruption. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the volcano emitted ash plumes rising up to 500 meters high, which were carried northeast by the wind. The eruption has affected several areas, including La Carlota City, Bago City, and La Castellana in Negros Occidental, with light ashfall reported in these locations.
Residents in these areas have been advised to wear protective masks to guard against ash and sulfur dioxide exposure, which can trigger respiratory issues. The volcano is now at Alert Level 2, indicating increasing unrest, and entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone is prohibited due to the risk of sudden eruptions.
Green Legacy, in partnership with the Medicine Student Council (MSC), Asian Medical Students Association (AMSA), and Vital Signs Publication, urgently appeal for your support to aid farmers and their families impacted by the recent eruption of Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island.
Your monetary donations will be used to purchase essential supplies such as face masks to protect against ash and smoke inhalation, clean drinking water, and other necessary items to support affected families during this crisis.
To donate, please send your contributions via GCash to:

WVSU College of Medicine (COM) secured a first runner up finish at the Interscholastic Clinicopathologic Conference 50 (ICPC50) among 8 other participating schools. The event was held on Saturday, March 23, at the Ramon Ang Auditorium, UP College of Medicine.
The activity, sponsored by the UP Medical Studentsโ Society with the UPCM Department of Pathology, challenged participants with a case study: a 59-year-old male who presented at the emergency room with body weakness as the chief complaint.
Ma. Isabel Perez, Daryl Jasyl Caรฑon, Lee Iverson Buelis, and Dave Danson Dy (speaker) represented WVSU COM with Dr. Gerard Lorenz Penecilla as the coach of the team. This win marks the institutionโs third consecutive edition placing within the top 3 of the competition, having bagged the championship at ICPC49 in 2022 and 1st runner-up title at ICPC48 in 2021.
ICPC50 is described as โmomentous one-day event comprised of instrumental discussions to gauge various perspectives in the health field and a clinical case diagnosis competition among the brightest minds of Philippine medical schoolsโ in their official social media account.

Happy World Kidney Day!
This morning has been dedicated to raising awareness about kidney health. Together with the Medicine Student Council, we extended consultations to 158 individuals within the WVSU community and distributed maintenance medications for diabetes and hypertension. Additionally, free urinalysis and random blood sugar monitoring were also offered to the recipients. Various educational booths and interactive games were also set up to further kidney awareness.
Accessibility to kidney health for all remains a challenge, and we aim to ensure that optimal medication practices are provided to everyone in need. We continue our advocacy for accessible kidney health for all, remaining champions in bringing awareness to healthier kidneys.

Indulgence can often be the sweetest of temptations, but within lies a salty truth: our favorite snacks and comfort meals can pose a hidden threat to our health. The sweet and salty treats we crave may harm our kidneys if consumed in excess.
Everything is good in moderationโeverything is bad without limitations! Finding the balance of satisfying our cravings without compromising our kidney health is key.
Happy World Kidney Day!
