Dear Central High Echo,

As colors were poured over the canvas, the once black and white painting is now inked with vivid hues. Unique figures and pictures were revealed as the paint seeped in, creating a myriad of exquisite images. Just like these different colorful patterns, each person in society paints a distinct point of view, especially on various issues permeating the nation. Brimmed with intricate patterns, an artwork is formed to display todayโ€™s society with various shades of ideas and perspectives. Even though each citizen holds different viewpoints, they continue to co-exist within the illustration, forming an ornate design of views.

With societal issues increasing drastically, The Aquinian and English Forum will conduct the second episode of the webinar series entitled โ€œKaleidoscope 2023: Uncovering Dynamic Viewpoints on Social Issues through Communication and Technology,โ€ which will focus on the significance of the English Language in media literacy and the formation of well-grounded opinions on November 26 via Facebook Live.

Join us on Facebook Live tomorrow as we unveil the truth behind different perspectives with the power of communication and technology. We are looking forward to your participation in the event. Thank you, and God bless!

"Chef-d'oeuvre"

I find myself in a bit of a predicament as I attempt to convey a message that has been swirling in my heart, a message that holds equal measures of fondness and amusement. You see, despite our limited interactions and my unfortunate inability to showcase my interest in person, I couldn't resist the overwhelming desire to confess that I like you, Janine. Yes, even from afar.... hehe, you have managed to fascinate my attention and tickle my heartstrings.

In the past few years, my life resembled a rollercoaster ride, filled with uncertainty and an absence of direction. My heart, unfortunately, came to be chained by vigorous numbness, bringing it difficult for me to embrace the notion of falling in love. I was plagued by a deep-rooted fear of giving my affection without receiving the same in return. It appeared like a one-sided equation that had the potential to wreak havoc on my fragile feelings.

But then, like a wrench of fate, you penetrated my world, and everything altered. From the very first moment I saw you, Janine, I couldn't help but believe that you were a celestial being, a chef-d'oeuvre of beauty carefully formulated by a divine hand. Your charm... Ackkk!! both inside and out left me at a loss for words. Characterizing your epitome in this imperfect world seems like an incomprehensible task, like attempting to decipher a complex puzzle without any clues.

Whenever our eyes meet, a magical transformation occurs. Suddenly, my surroundings transform into a paradise, and it feels as though your radiant face has imprinted itself on my mind. Your innocent voice, like a sweet melody, echoes within me, provoking emotions I never figured out existed. The scent of your hair lingers in the air, captivating my senses, while your smile carries the power to brighten even the darkest of days. You are, without a doubt, the epitome of admiration, an authentic goddess in the domain of mortals. Janine, your unique beauty and contagious charm have effortlessly embezzled my attention, and my heart has willingly followed suit.

Despite the limited moments we've shared, I find myself haunted by confusion when night falls. I question whether this profound feeling stirring within me is indeed love, or simply a mirage of my own making. But one thing is certainโ€”your mere presence has transformed my once monotonous and robotic existence into a colorful, meaningful journey. The world around me comes to be unimaginable, and I can't help but feel extremely fortunate to have stumbled upon this gorgeous dream.

Through this unique and jagged experience, I've come to acknowledge that love is a holistic value, a force that sums up meaning in every aspect of our lives. Its absence leaves our perception tasteless and lacking while being in love signals our connection to the divine. And so, despite my timid nature and inability to express my feelings in person, I couldn't let another day pass without telling you, Janine, that you have captured my heart from a distance.

I understand that this confession may come as a wonder, and perhaps it's unconventional for us to be in this peculiar situation. But please understand that my admiration for you is genuine and sincere. You have managed to arouse a feeling of fervor and joy within me, even from afar. And while I may be deemed a coward for not conveying my interest when our paths cross, I couldn't put up with the thought of letting these emotions go unspoken any longer.

Janine, I wish that this letter reaches your heart and brings a smile to your face. Perhaps it will attend to as a catalyst for us to undertake a journey of getting to know each other better, where we can unveil the magic that lies within our connection. Until then, please know that I hold you in the highest regard and that my admiration for you resumes to grow with each passing moment. You are an extraordinary woman, Janine, and I am eager to discover the layers of your personality that make you shine so dazzlingly.

To wrap it all up, Janine, I liked to take this chance to admit my affection for you. Despite my timidness and the distance that separates us, I couldn't let another day pass without expressing how much you mean to me. Your presence has breathed new life into my world, and even though I may stumble in showing it, my admiration for you knows no bounds.

'High Road'
by Kenshin Bonitillo

Everyone has and will go through a high road,
like an unpredictable ocean under us, under one boat,
like climbing Mount Rainier with your more cheaper coat,
a ride of experiences that we can't already know.

We'll meet on the way and connect one day,
a stir of emotions to be tried to be kept at bay,
a future of experiences one can achieve to have at play,
a story in the making that'll never seem to go plain.

There comes a time when issues arise,
when the group disbands during a gradual tide,
when everything today just doesn't seem to comply,
yet we try to move by with just a simple repressed sigh.

Everyone has and will go through a high road,
like an unpredictable ocean under us, under one boat,
like climbing Mount Rainier with your more cheaper coat,
a ride of experiences that we can't already know.

Everyone has and will go through a high road,
Everyone warms each other in the face of the cold,
Everyone has personal records that are worth gold,
And if you're new to the high roadโ€”Welcome Aboard.

I Stand By The Sea
by Kenshin Bonitillo

I stand by the sea that's thrashing and crashing and pushing against the ground of which I stand on,
I watch as the sea floats today, and yesterday, and the days before those, those I'm always fond of.
I stand by the sea as my voice, my voice feels hoarse while the rain lightly pours (Lightly pours)
I watch as my reflection, introspection, perception of everything go a little off-course.

The sunlight is there,
just barely there,
kind of there...?
It is there.

Nearly Monochrome,
I often roam,
Nearly Monochrome,
Standing out of place

I stand by the sea that's thrashing and crashing and pushing against the ground of which I stand on,
I watch as the sea floats today, and yesterday, and the days before those, those I'm always fond of.
But there is a comfort for all this, a comfort of the slightest bliss...
And my comfort is

The Recluse

By Xavier Yrrah Ziegenhohn

You wake up, your eyes dried as you look around. It's 11:39 am.

How embarrassing.

You get out of bed, almost step on a rat that scurries across your bedroom floor, and walk over to the bathroom.

You wash your hands in the mud colored water and stare at the mirror in front of you.

It's been cracked by... ๐˜ด๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ.

Well, that's not such a bad thing. Let's face it, you look like a pig.

You slump to the floor, bawling all because YOU know you're a disgusting mess, yet you constantly keep on with your pathetic life, refusing to admit that YOU are the cause, YOU are the problem and YOU cannot be bothered to find a solution.

How pathetic. Crying on the floor, your eyes starting to bleed.

You stop, get up, dry yourself off with the damp gray towel, previously covering a dead, bloated rat, its eyes
popped out on the floor, presumably from when you stepped on it a few months ago.

How it hasn't become rotten or hasn't been eaten? You don't know.

You're too stupid to know.

After all, you'd rather obsess over your appearance than than actually take care of yourself.

Trying to distract yourself from the puddles of tears and blood on the floor, you look over to the bathtub, seeing that it hasn't been used in an embarrassing amount of time.

How fitting. You look like scum, so it's only right that you smell like it.
Shaking it off, you go to the kitchen, seeing cracks on the floor and on the walls, and the bucket you left there last night has been filled, the floor flooded with the excess.

Looking over at the table, you see the milk you forgot to put away has spoiled, attracting pests.

You open the pantry to find nothing but junk and that bag of trail mix that's been sitting there for...
Well, ever since you've bought this place.

Oh well, no food here.

So, you decide that you might as well go back to bed.

After all, what's the point of staying up if you don't have food to eat?

As soon as you turn around, you see a blood red substance crawl across the room, and stop in front of you.

You jump back, the substance edging towards you.

It speeds towards you, as you're frozen in fear, seeping through your eyes, the feeling is disgusting, agonizing even.

As soon as the first bit of it oozed inside you, something else takes the wheel.

You fall to the floor, involuntarily kneeling as the rest of that ooze climbs in.

As soon as every last drop enters your body, you black out.

You wake in your bedroom, horrified to find a rat with a large chunk of it's body missing in your mouth, blood dripping on the floor.

Seemingly, as if you're not in control, you involuntarily swallow the rat's remains whole.

Yum. The flavor overwhelms you, scaring you, yet also comforting you.

Looking outside, you see a bird that flew in has sat near you.

As if you're acting out of natural instinct, you lunge on the creature, grabbing it, then squeezing it so hard it bursts, blood and innards fly across the room, but most of the insides drip into your mouth.

๐˜Ž๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ. ๐˜Ž๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ. ๐˜Ž๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ.

You can only taste the poor bird's carcass as it is devoured by something... ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฉ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ.

Something that isn't you.

Then, you quickly crawl to the walls on your hands and feet, making quick work of the remains. Licking the walls, a sense of gluttony overtakes you.

You have grown accustomed to your new life. Well... to some extent.

Sometimes whatevers controlling you lets go.

It seeps out through your eyes, the same way it enters.

Whenever it exits, it's like you're crying.

Crying in horror, because you're at mercy to this... abomination.

Now, you've adjusted to the beast. You love the taste of the birds, the rat's shrieks of terror as they face their tormentor.

But, the farther you look back, you can't remember if the beast was real.

Was there a real predator?

Or were you just coping with something?

Your interaction issues, perhaps?

You know it's not real. You refuse to admit it.
You refuse to see the light.

Done with the denial.

You know what you're doing is your own.

You cannot hide it.

You are bored with the taste of vermin. Bored of the squeaks. Bored of the squirms.

You hunger for more.

One day, when you look outside your window, you see children playing with a ball outside, across the road on the lawn across, until the ball flies over the road and into your lawn.

Well...

isn't this fun???

a boy goes over to your lawn to retrieve the ball.

then, you hurry down stairs, desperate for more flavor.

You open the door and run towards the child in a delirious rage.

You grab him by his neck and run back indoors.

The child's discomfort, will soon be eased.

CRUNCH
by Xavier Yrrah Ziegenhohn

You wake up, your alarm clock blasting on the table beside you. You reach over and whack the alarm clock 'till it stops beeping.
You lay in bed for a few moments, staring outside the window, watching birds fly by, and cars driving down the street, until you check your phone.

Crap.

Itโ€™s 8:23, you slept late. Class started almost 30 minutes ago, and youโ€™re still in bed.

Well, thereโ€™s no use in heading over, by the time you arrive youโ€™ll have been written up for tardiness.

Might as well stay home.

You deserve a rest anyways. You get out of bed, get changed and go to the kitchen.

Wait. Do you really want to cook food?

You just woke up, this is a rest day after all, you could just order online.

You pull out your phone, open Chownet and browse the pastries section.

Passing donuts, sandwiches and mini cakes, something catches your eye.

Yum. Cinnamon buns.

Drooling, you open the quantity tab, select 5, place your order and get a notification that your order has been placed and is ready to be sent over.

Itโ€™ll probably take a while, so you turn on the TV and switch the channel to the cartoons.

After a while, your doorbell rings.

DING-DONG
DINGDONGDINGDONGDINGDONG

Idiot. If whoeverโ€™s outside breaks the bell, they are personally paying.

You get up, walk over and open the door to find no driver, just the pastries left on your doormat. Taking a look around, you donโ€™t see any delivery man anywhere.

Shrugging it off, you take the cinnamon buns inside and open them on your kitchen counter.

The smell of cinnamon and sugar fills the air as you take a plate and fork, grab 2 buns, and dig in, the TV still blaring as you cut into a bun.

Focused on the TV, the fork reaches into your mouth as you await the flavor of a delectable bun.

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

A bad taste floods your mouth, leaving bitter accents on every crack and crevice of your mouth.

You spit out your mouthful, seeing black bits in what youโ€™ve just expunged from your mouth.

Looking at the bun youโ€™ve just cut into, you see bits of hair, and a cockroach.

Oh god. Ohgod. OhgodohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodOHGOD

Youโ€™re going to be sick.

You run over to the washroom sink and vomit into the sink.

Chunks of โ€ฆ whatever fly out of your mouth, making the entire mirror splash, vomit flying into your eyes, into your ears and eyes, and back into your mouth.

This makes even more come out, and you feel sick, as blood comes out, followed by chunks of whatever you ate the night before, then you feel something long and slimy come up your throat as an intestine flies out followed by itโ€™s friends, then another organ, followed by another, then another, and another.

This makes the sink overflow, and your feet are splattered by sick.

Then, you vomit out your kidneys as a cockroach climbs up your leg, scuffling up your back, curling around your neck, and into your mouth, seemingly able to withstand the stream as it goes down your gullet.

Horrified, you keep on vomiting as you run to the living room, sick flying out of your mouth and splattering behind you.

Then, you fall over, your skin burning as your skin suddenly turns itchy, and boils appear all over your skin as one by one, they burst, causing excruciating pain as the boils explode, liquid flying across the room.

You feel an unfamiliar chill down your spine as your skin suddenly starts falling onto itself, your bones seemingly turned into goo, as it leaks out of your ears, your skin surrounded by liquefied innards as you black out.

Another year of learning, opportunities, and deadlines started. Hopes are high this yearโ€”higher than the last two, as Central announces its transition to face-to-face classes this November.

Sari-saring mga larawan ng new normal ang napipinta sa mga isip nating mga estudyante. Magla-lunch na ba tayo ulit sa Uy? Babalik ba ang U-Day at Festival of Lights? Magkakaroon ba ng JS prom? Bilang mga estudyante, maraming mga bagay ang inaasahan nating manawariโ€”isang salita sa lumang Tagalog na ang ibig sabihin ay โ€œmatupad.โ€

In spite of uncertainties, we still plan our days and weeks ahead. We have hope for tomorrow while not even being sure it will come, especially in these times plagued by hardships. We have hope for things to happenโ€”hiraya, isang salita sa lumang Tagalog na ang ibig sabihin ay โ€œsana.โ€

Hiraya manawari, or in other words, โ€œsana mangyari,โ€ is then an expression of hope that whatever our wishes, they are to come true.

Ikaw, Jaguar, ano ba ang gusto mong manawari?

Hello Jaguars and alumni! Due to the sudden onset of COVID-19 in 2020, our literary portfolio was also halted. However, although halfway done, I believe it could still give us a glimpse of our high school life before the pandemic. I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the CHE Editorial Board for the School year 2019-2020 for their hard work. Herewith is our CHE magazine for the school year 2019-2020:
