𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘: In commemoration of the National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD) and the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples (IDWIP), major activities await as the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) seals partnership agreements and launch new initiatives on policy enhancements on August 9, 2024 at the Ardenhills Suites in Quezon City.

Among the activities, are the launching of the Handbook on Carbon Trading for Ancestral Domains: Policies, Project Development, Standards and Safeguards in partnership with the Forest Foundation Philippines, and the NCIP Hotline. Also, part of the activity is the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Family Search International

The NIPD and IDWIP are two momentous events that hold significant cultural and historical importance locally and internationally, especially for the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) and other stakeholders.

Anchored on strengthening policy advocacy and awareness-raising on innovations and new developments complementing current programs and initiatives, this event would also cater to fostering partnerships with national government agencies, civil society organizations/non-governmental organizations, the academe, international organizations, and other stakeholders with ICCs/IPs creating a supportive sustainable network advancing IP rights protection and promotion.

This momentous event is also a driving force for the declaration of August 9 of every year as a Special Non-Working Holiday in honor of the valuable role and contributions of ICCs/IPs as vanguards of the ecosystem and defender of the Philippine independence.

Overall, the event is an avenue to generate a comprehensive framework for advocating and protecting IP rights with all sectors at all levels.

🔗 A.I. and Philippine Elections Decoded: A Stakeholders Forum and Consultation Dialogue 💬

The Honorable Chairman of the Commission En Banc, Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia, and the Commissioner-in-Charge for Digital Transformation and Task Force K*K sa Halalan (Katotohanan, Katapatan, at Katarungan sa Halalan), Dr. Nelson J. Celis, will deliver key messages from the COMELEC in the upcoming Stakeholders Forum and Consultation Dialogue on the use of A.I. technology in election campaigns entitled “A.I. and Philippine Elections Decoded”.

UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan, II, UP College of Law Dean Darlene Marie B. Berberabe, UP Law Institute of Government and Law Reform Director, and Associate Dean Solomon F. Lumba, will deliver messages from the U.P. Diliman and the U.P. College of Law academic community.

The one-day forum, organized by the COMELEC, in cooperation with the UP Law Institute of Government and Law Reform (UP IGLR), will gather around 200 key election management officials, experts in A.I. technology, industry leaders, international and local election stakeholders such as accredited citizens’ arms, civil society organizations, political parties, party list organizations, and the legal academic community, to discuss the threats posed by the misuse of AI technology and deepfakes in our electoral processes.

The forum will also explore tools, mechanisms, best practices, and the sound legal framework for policy formulation and administration of relevant election laws.

Livestream will be available via COMELEC’s official page on July 18, 2024, at 9:00AM to 10:00AM for the Opening Program.
