On May 22, 2024 La Carlota City Health Office, together with the Philippine Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Incorporated, Philippine Obstetrical & Gynecological Society (POGS) and other stakeholders, celebrated Preeclampsia Day with a range of activities aimed at raising awareness and highlighting the importance of early detection and management of preeclampsia, a critical condition affecting pregnant women.

The day's activities began with a comprehensive lay forum, where healthcare workers gathered to deepen their understanding of preeclampsia, its symptoms, risk factors, and management strategies. This educational session aimed to empower our health workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and manage preeclampsia ensuring better maternal health outcomes.

As part of the day's activities, free ultrasound screenings were offered to high-risk pregnant mothers from 14 barangays. This initiative provided crucial prenatal care, helping to detect early signs of preeclampsia and other potential complications. The free ultrasounds ensured that expectant mothers received timely and necessary medical attention, promoting healthier pregnancies.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kaye Parreño-Bautista, Dr. Ma. Theresa Masote-Maestral, Dr. Ma. Carmen Tupas, and Dr. Kathlynn Cu of the Philippine Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Incorporated. We also thank Dr. Suyen Magallanes, Dr. Marie Therese Zayco-Magno, Dr. Ma. Rochelle Calleja-Gohing, and Dr. Laureen Vinco of the Philippine Obstetrical & Gynecological Society (POGS), as well as other stakeholders, for their invaluable partnership in celebrating Preeclampsia Day. A team from DOH, together with Miss Mary Kay Abarro, DMO IV, recently conducted a thorough monitoring activity in Barangays Haguimit and Cubay.
The focus of this initiative was to assess the delivery and effectiveness of health services provided to the residents of these barangays. The team evaluated various aspects of health services, including maternal and child care, family planning, immunization, and treatment of common illnesses. This comprehensive evaluation aimed to ensure that the health needs of the community are being met effectively and efficiently. The monitoring activity concluded with feedback sessions with Dr. Rommel R. Sabig, City Health Officer, providing an opportunity to discuss findings and recommendations for further improvement in health service delivery.
