CHO La Carlota celebrated Family Planning Day at Barangay I Poblacion as part of Family Planning Month. Various modern contraceptives were provided to current & new acceptors.

On May 22, 2024 La Carlota City Health Office, together with the Philippine Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Incorporated, Philippine Obstetrical & Gynecological Society (POGS) and other stakeholders, celebrated Preeclampsia Day with a range of activities aimed at raising awareness and highlighting the importance of early detection and management of preeclampsia, a critical condition affecting pregnant women.
The day's activities began with a comprehensive lay forum, where healthcare workers gathered to deepen their understanding of preeclampsia, its symptoms, risk factors, and management strategies. This educational session aimed to empower our health workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and manage preeclampsia ensuring better maternal health outcomes.
As part of the day's activities, free ultrasound screenings were offered to high-risk pregnant mothers from 14 barangays. This initiative provided crucial prenatal care, helping to detect early signs of preeclampsia and other potential complications. The free ultrasounds ensured that expectant mothers received timely and necessary medical attention, promoting healthier pregnancies.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kaye Parreño-Bautista, Dr. Ma. Theresa Masote-Maestral, Dr. Ma. Carmen Tupas, and Dr. Kathlynn Cu of the Philippine Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine Incorporated. We also thank Dr. Suyen Magallanes, Dr. Marie Therese Zayco-Magno, Dr. Ma. Rochelle Calleja-Gohing, and Dr. Laureen Vinco of the Philippine Obstetrical & Gynecological Society (POGS), as well as other stakeholders, for their invaluable partnership in celebrating Preeclampsia Day. Their support and collaboration were instrumental in the success of our activities. We look forward to continued collaboration to improve maternal health and prevent preeclampsia in our city.
The La Carlota City Health Office held a solemn & heartfelt event to commemorate International AIDS Memorial Day. This day, dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives to AIDS & supporting those living with HIV. ❤️

Our trained BHWs as Barangay-level Health Education & Promotion Officers (HEPOs), along with our dedicated barangay midwives, HEPO & nurses have taken on the important task of raising awareness about pertussis, a highly contagious respiratory disease commonly known as whooping cough.
They have been actively visiting houses, Day Care Centers, & community centers, where they disseminate information about pertussis transmission, symptoms, & benefits of vaccination. Through their efforts, they aim to empower individuals & families to take preventive measures to protect themselves & their loved ones from this preventable disease.

Utilizing the new BHW Reference Manual of the DOH, as mandated in Universal Health Care Act the training for La Carlota City BHWs as Barangay-Level Health Education & Promotion Officers (HEPOs) has been successfully completed. This training equips BHWs with the latest knowledge & skills, ensuring effective dissemination of vital health information & enabling them to serve their respective barangays effectively.
Thank you for the presence, & contributions by the DOH Nurse Deployment Program (NDP): Ann Marie Secong, Devi Lyn Sibug, April Artieda, & Hazelyn Tarroza. Our talented Barangay Midwives & Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) lit up the stage with their energy & enthusiasm as they led their respective barangays in an exciting Zumba Contest during the BHW General Assembly last April 1, 2024. It was a display of unity & wellness, inspiring everyone to dance their way to better health.

A team from DOH, together with Miss Mary Kay Abarro, DMO IV, recently conducted a thorough monitoring activity in Barangays Haguimit and Cubay.
The focus of this initiative was to assess the delivery and effectiveness of health services provided to the residents of these barangays. The team evaluated various aspects of health services, including maternal and child care, family planning, immunization, and treatment of common illnesses. They also examined the implementation of health programs designed to promote community health and wellness.
In addition to the barangay-level monitoring, the team also assessed the La Carlota City Health Office (CHO) on its health services and program implementations. This comprehensive evaluation aimed to ensure that the health needs of the community are being met effectively and efficiently. The monitoring activity concluded with feedback sessions with Dr. Rommel R. Sabig, City Health Officer, providing an opportunity to discuss findings and recommendations for further improvement in health service delivery.
Overall, the monitoring activity was a vital step in enhancing the quality of health care services in the area.

Braving the Heat: Health Workers' Commitment to Community Health in La Carlota City

In a commendable display of commitment, the La Carlota CHO, in collaboration with the DOH HRH Team and BHWs, embarked on a strenuous hours of trek across challenging terrains of Sitio Bais, Brgy. Yubo, La Carlota City. Their mission was to reach remote communities to provide essential health services.
Amidst the sweltering heat, these dedicated health workers carried out significant HPV vaccination drive for young girls aged 9-14yo ensuring protection against the human papillomavirus. They also conducted the Oral Polio Vaccine Supplementary Immunization Activity (OPV SIA), a vital step in safeguarding children from the crippling disease of polio.
Furthermore, they spearheaded an informative campaign to raise awareness about Pertussis, also known as whooping cough. They educated the community on the severity of the disease, its potential risks, and effective prevention strategies to combat its spread.
This initiative not only highlights the unwavering dedication of the health workers to deliver valuable services but also underscores the importance of reaching out to all segments of the population, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a healthier future.
On April 5, 2024, Ryan Delos Santos, Disease Surveillance Nurse, took the lead in conducting an orientation session for doctors, nurses & midwives about pertussis. Together, they explored into the topic, discussing what pertussis is, how it spreads, & the essential measures to stop its transmission. Recognizing the importance of community education, the Health Promotion Unit also took action by producing informative leaflets on pertussis. These leaflets served as valuable tools for mass information dissemination, ensuring that everyone in the community had access to vital knowledge about pertussis prevention & management.
Last March 27, 2024, Barangay La Granja National High School hosted an important discussion on copulation. Ken John Mental, AHDP Coordinator from City Health Office, along with Devilyn Sibug & April Artieda from the Nurse Deployment Program of DOH, spearheaded an enlightening session. Students from Grades 7 to 12 actively participated, gaining valuable insights to prevent teenage pregnancy, STI & make informed choices about their reproductive health. Empowering our youth to make responsible decisions is crucial for building a healthier future.
The Association of Barangay Health Workers of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, Incorporated, hosted a significant General Assembly. Mayor Rex R. Jalando-on, alongside Dr. Rommel Sabig, Kap Annabelle Bermudo, Kap Joel Rumbines, and Kap Atet Guba, as well as CHO Staff, Barangay Midwives and Kagawads on Health, graced the event, emphasizing the community's importance.
The assembly was filled with excitement as it featured raffles and a lively Zumba contest. Amidst the festivities, a moment was taken to honor retiring health workers, expressing gratitude for their years of service.
With Mayor Rex's support and the participation of local leaders and healthcare professionals, the assembly fostered unity and a commitment to improving healthcare access and services in La Carlota City."
