The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict is observed on November 6th each year. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001, this day aims to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by armed conflicts and promote measures to protect the environment even during times of war.

The day highlights the often overlooked impact of war on natural resources, such as polluted water sources, scorched forests, and poisoned soils. It also emphasizes the importance of integrating environmental protection into conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding strategies.

Imagine a force of nature so powerful it can reshape coastlines and leave entire communities in distress within minutes. Tsunamis are one of the most devastating natural disasters, but awareness and preparedness can make all the difference.

On November 5th, join the global community in observing World Tsunami Awareness Day. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the risks of tsunamis and sharing life-saving knowledge. Inspired by the heroic actions of Hamaguchi Goryō in 1854, who set fire to his rice sheaves to warn his village of an approaching tsunami, this day emphasizes the importance of early warning and preparedness.

Feel the urgency of taking action. By understanding the dangers and learning how to prepare, you can help protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community from the devastating impact of tsunamis. Participate in events, engage with educational materials, and spread the word to increase awareness.

Mark your calendar for November 5th and get involved! Share information about tsunami preparedness, join local or virtual events, and commit to learning more about how you can stay safe. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that communities are better prepared for these natural disasters.
