What to do before a flood?
To prepare for possible flooding in your area, you should:
- Avoid building in flood-prone areas unless you elevate and reinforce your home. Check Hazard Hunter PH for a full assessment of your area.
If a flood is likely to hit your area, you should:
-Be aware that flash flooding can occur. If there is any possibility of a flash flood, move immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for instructions to move.

This drill was in line with the goal of creating a safer environment for all Aerospacers and for them to be educated in what to do during an emergency involving an earthquake.

In the event of an earthquake, it is always important to remember that giving into panic will only result in further disaster. So keep calm, drop, cover, and hold onto any strong piece of furniture you can. Once the quaking has stopped, head into any open area away from nearby infrastructure or the designated evacuation area.

Let us remember these words from Mr. John Keith Amaya, former Vice Chair of IDRRMU and Ambassador of IAU Batch Hiraya: Pursuing your chosen academic program is part of your journey towards your end goal. Never lose sight of what you want to achieve, and let every obstacle become a stepping stone towards self-improvement.
As we begin this academic year, let us remember that we all have the potential to be better than we were the day before.

It's the rainy season, and the mosquitoes are coming your way. Don't let itchy bites rain on your parade! Get the lowdown in our FAQ Friday!
Mosquitoes love this weather! How can I treat itchy bites?
Clean the bites with soap and water. To lessen irritation, use a cool compress or calamine lotion. Refrain from scratching, as this might exacerbate irritation and increase the risk of infection.
It's already flooding! What if I come into contact with contaminated water?
If you must walk through floodwater, wear boots and gloves. Thoroughly wash any exposed skin with soap and clean water. Avoid submerged areas with live wires and be cautious around electrical hazards.

The first batch of IDRRMU members was trained on the Incident Command System (ICS) Level 1 from March 31 to April 2, 2023. The ICS establishes a standardized organizational structure and procedures to manage incidents efficiently.
This training, led by trainers from Civil Defense Central Visayas, provided participants with valuable knowledge on handling emergency situations. Through their cooperation and active participation, this impactful training has enabled IAU to take another step towards ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all.
This initiative reflects IAU's commitment to prioritizing capacity building and ensuring we are well-equipped for incident management.

What to do during thunderstorms?
1. Stay indoors: This is the safest place to be during a thunderstorm. Find a sturdy building or an enclosed, metal-topped vehicle.
2. Avoid using electronic devices: This includes cell phones, computers, and televisions. Lightning can travel through electrical wires and injure you.
3. Do not take a shower or bath: unsecured plumbing can conduct electricity.
4. Stay away from windows and doors: Lightning can strike near windows and doors and travel inside the building.

The IDRRMU kicked off the recruitment process for new aspiring responders by showcasing their equipment and expertise. They shared valuable CPR skills and provided visitors with a brief overview of CPR techniques. Additionally, they demonstrated their ability to respond effectively in various situations, including fire suppression and first aid.
Come visit our booth at the IAU gymnasium for an engaging and informative experience. Who knows, you might be the next responder!

1. Is alcohol really good for your wound?
No, alcohol is not recommended for treating wounds. While it kills bacteria, it can also damage healthy tissues around the wound, slowing down the healing process.
2. Can you put toothpaste on burnt skin?
No, putting toothpaste on a burn can trap heat and make the burn worse. Instead, run cool (not cold) water over the burn for 15 minutes or until the pain subsides.

"Fainting Tips."
1. Check Responsiveness: Gently shake the person to know if he/she is conscious.
2. Call for Help: If the person doesn't regain consciousness within a minute, call emergency services immediately.
3. Lay Them Down: Position the person on their back. Elevate their legs about 12 inches.
4. Loosen Tight their Clothing: Remove or loosen any tight clothing, such as ties, belts, or collars, to help them breathe more easily.
5. Check for Pulse and Breathing: Ensure the person is breathing and has pulse. If they aren't, begin CPR if you are trained.
6. Ensure Good Ventilation: Ensure the person is in a well-ventilated area.
7. Stay with Them: Stay with the person until they regain consciousness and are fully alert. Reassure them and keep them calm.
Remember:
When the face is red, raise the head. When the face is pale, raise the tail.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐!
A super typhoon Yolanda survivor, Marvy awakened to the realities of disaster in 2013 as he stood on ground zero, witnessing the immense devastation. This experience made him aware of our vulnerability to calamities such as typhoons and other natural disasters.
Determined to challenge himself socially, physically, and mentally, he joined the 5th wave of the IDRRMU in 2021. This decision exposed him to new environments, introduced him to new people, and broadened his perspective, ultimately proving to be serendipitous.
The training, activities, and workshops offered by the IDRRMU provided him with profound knowledge. The hardships and failures he encountered along the way helped shape him into the better person he is today. Insecurities, anxiety, and fear are constant companions, but the courage to confront them must be earned.
While we may have different sources of learning, it is essential to remember that our common goal is to be prepared to respond appropriately in times of crisis

โPhilippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010โ.
Otherwise known as the PDRRM Act of 2010, R.A. 10121 was enacted on May 27, 2010, aiming to transform the Philippines' disaster management system from focusing on disaster response to disaster risk reduction.
In response to the government's call for disaster risk reduction and management to be a shared responsibility, IAU established the IDRRMU in 2017 as the university's school-based disaster risk reduction and management unit.

The unit conducted its year-end evaluation and reviewed activities from the past two semesters. This process involved identifying potential areas of improvements and anticipating possible challenges that might arise before and during future activities. By holding this gathering, the unit aims to better serve both the school and the community while ensuring the safety of the responders.
The turnover ceremony for the outgoing and incoming officers was held after the evaluation session. The purpose of this leadership transition was to hand over all duties, contacts, and files to the incoming officers for the academic year 2024โ2025, facilitating an easy send-off to the new leadership of the Unit. The ceremony came to an end with the installation of the new slate of officers for the academic year. Since the unit has to serve all year round, oath-taking ceremonies for the unit was done beforehand to guarantee continuity of roles and obligations.
