Due to volcanic smog continuously released by the Taal Volcano, we advise all travelers to reconsider their plans to visit the areas near Taal Volcano.

Biology and morphology of Attacus lorquinii
Attacus lorquinii is one of the biggest saturniid in the world, in the wild itβs found in dense high altitude rainforests of Philippines.
Closely related to Attacus atlas; Attacus lorquinii has a wingspan measuring up 24-27 cm in the female. A monster species!
Both forewings and hindwings show very beautiful colors with 4 small transparent patches: these fenestrations probably serve to confuse the predators by creating an irregular shadow below them and by reflecting different light wavelenghts,
Attacus lorquiniiβs forewings have two big markings that reminds a snake head, especially when they move their wings.
This phenomenon is called batestian mimicry, itβs a form of mimicry where a harmless species (Attacus lorquinii) imitates a harmful species (a snake) to intimidate the predators of them both.
Females lay 50-150 eggs (2,5 mm) on the underside of the leaves of the host plants, they hatch in a 12 to 14 days and in 1 to 3 months they spin their cocoons among edible leaves.
Final instar caterpillars can grow to 11cm, they donβt demonstrate a wandering behavior and neither a change of color; the papery cocoons can measure up 7-8 cm.

Fireflies are still dancing around and hereβs some science for your β weeβ ones , who I hope are as inspired and mystified by these fantastic creatures of nature as I was back in the day
Keep an area with tallish native grasses and leaf litter. A stack of old firewood and the grass that grows around it is a perfect welcoming spot.
The adults eat pollen and nectar , so a diverse collection of flowers and your elimination of pesticides will help to encourage them. They adore rain and water gardens .

Dragonflies - an insects that belong to the scientific order Odonata. In Greek, Odonata means the βtoothed one.β It refers to the toothed or serrated jaws of dragonflies, which they use to catch their prey. They have long, thin bodies with two pairs of horizontally stretched-out, membranous, shiny, and veined wings.
Known for hunting other flying insect, so agility is key. They can move and rotate their four wings independently and can fly backwards, up and down.
What is the meaning of dragonfly?
In almost every part of the world, Dragonfly symbolizes change, transformation, adaptability, and self-realization. The chance that is often referred to has its source in mental and emotional maturity understanding the deeper meaning of life.
Is dragonfly a lucky symbol?
The dragonfly is an important symbol in many countries with its significance ranging from representing change, rebirth, happiness, good luck, and financial gain as well insight.

PAGASA has advised the public to take precautionary measures as it warned that the heat index would likely reach 50 degrees Celsius, the highest so far since the warm-dry season started in the country.
In its five-day monitoring that began April 21, Pagasa said that based on the forecast at its Science Garden station in Quezon City, the 50 degrees Celsius heat index may be felt on Saturday.
Residents, especially in Quezon City, Manila and Pasay, are expected to feel the heat as temperatures are forecast to soar to 50 degrees Celsius in Quezon City and 42 degrees Celsius in Manila and Pasay.
Heat index is defined as a "measure indicating the level of discomfort a person is thought to experience as a result of the combined effects of the temperature and humidity of the air."
Pagasa warns the public that heat stroke is probable if a person is exposed to a heat index ranging from 42 to 52 degrees Celsius.
