In the Philippines, the drastic fluctuation of temperature which happens during the rainy season makes the body susceptible to bacterial and viral illnesses. Two of the most common rainy season illness is the Leptospirosis and Dengue.
Leptospirosis is a rare bacterial infection we get from animals. The common symptoms include:
• Fever
• Headache
• Muscle ache
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Skin rash
Leptospirosis can be treated with antibiotics, with penicillin and doxycycline. Your doctor may also recommend ibuprofen for fever and muscle pain.
To prevent acquiring the disease, AVOID CONTAMINATED WATER.

As of July 15, 2023, during the Morbidity Week, DOH reported the continuous increase of Dengue Fever cases in the Philippines. Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical like the Philippines.
Dengue fever causes a high fever and any of the following signs and symptoms:
• Headache
• Muscle, bone or joint pain
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Pain behind the eyes
• Swollen glands
• Rash

Warning signs of severe dengue fever may include:
• Severe stomach pain
• Persistent vomiting
• Bleeding from your gums or nose
• Blood in your urine, stools or vomit
• Bleeding under the skin, which might look like bruising
• Difficult or rapid breathing
• Fatigue
• Irritability or restlessness

Dengue Fever Prevention includes VACCINE (Dengvaxia) and by simply PREVENTING MOSQUITO BITESsuch as staying in an air-conditioned or well-screened housing, wear protective clothing, use mosquito repellent, reduce mosquito habitat.
