Matagal na nila akong pinipilit mag free dive. 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻. 😅

I have rhinitis, it’s hard to hold my breath long under water. My knees can’t sustain such activity. My age is past that energy requirement. For some reasons I have also fear in the deep. 🥹

It’s quite unusual as I was a swimmer in my high school and college years.

Seeing all their pictures after their free diving does not even entice me. But come March 30, they forced me to join. Treat the day na lang daw as bonding with the family.

So I thought dun lang ako sa beachfront, enjoy the breeze and shallow waves while they all go to the deep part of the water and do their free dive.

The day started with the talks of the free dive coaches. They were so passionate and scientific at the same time. By the way, they are all millenials and GenZs! Ako lang ang baguhan ng Gen X!

I listened and soon found myself doing the exercises at their command. Before I knew it, i was already wearing my rush guard, put on the diving mask and lined up going to the deep! Para akong nabudol!

With all the fears I have, di ko talaga makuha ang makababa sa ilalim. I felt so overwhelmed with all the steps I need to do. Just seeing the deep from my mask scares me to pieces!

The corals were real but instead of appreciating it, takot ang naramdaman ko! Sobrang kaba that I can’t even relaxed! Yun kasi ang number one requirement- Relax!

Pero ang puso ko “in panic” talaga!

Lahat ng bago naming kasama naka baba na, including our two former alumni students, 16 and 14 years of age! Nakaka pressure talaga!!

I see everyone enjoying their sense of accomplishments for the first session palang! They were ecstatic! Everyone was giving me the motivation to make it. Everyone in the family was giving me a gentle pat. Jun, my hubby was my number one fan!!

Everyone believes that I can do it! Kaya mo yan Teacher Vicki! Grabe ang support! I need to practice what I preach in the context of free diving— conquer your fears!

Free diving is not about your rhinitis, your weak knees, your age.. 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗴𝗲!! 🙏

Lately, I've noticed posts invalidating a parent's feelings.

Ang hirap kayang maging Nanay at Tatay; it is not a subject that is taught in schools.

Us parents have our own parenting styles and journeys. Yes, being strong is a must in this journey, but 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙠𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙫𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨.

Remember, strength comes from embracing our vulnerabilities and supporting one another.

Let's create a space where parents can share their challenges and triumphs without judgment. 🌟
