People are social beings. This nature of us prevails among any other, hence, our societal environment has a huge impact on our individuality, societal roles, functions, and most especially, health. Thus, it is imperative for us to have a sense of safety and security within our immediate societal environment in order to protect our peace and sanctity as well as give us an increased drive to learn.

But why is it that important? Why do we need to steer clear from environments that will disrupt our sense of peace and valuation?

Last February 2022, Google teamed up with the popular Filipino folk-pop band, Ben&Ben, to promote Internet Safety Day by launching a song entitled, "Mag-Ingat (Be Safe Online)." This single illuminates that safe space violations are not limited to happen only in the physical world, thus, it advocates for the notion that online safety is a shared responsibility among us netizens as we are the stewards of the digital world. The song also serves as a reminder to internet users to exercise caution against malicious individuals present in online spaces, mirroring the precautions one would take in the outside world.

Learners learn best when they feel safe and valued. In an environment where learners are safe, they always gain a drive to continue exploring, knowing, and developing; as opposed to an unsafe and threatening environment where their enthusiasm to learn and grow dies down, and demotivation arises.

The feeling of safety is one of the many environmental drives that affect the motivation and engagement of learners. In protecting the safety of our learners, we are also protecting their mental health, sanctity, and sanity. Thus, we must ensure that their learning environment is safe from the many negative social actions one may encounter in our community. But what are the laws and policies that help propagate safe spaces in schools?

In a study by Kibriya and Jones (2021), it was found that the learning environment of learners has a huge impact on their learning process, capabilities, and outcomes. They also highlighted that the cultivation and implementation of a safe learning environment significantly gauged learners to become better motivated in the process of learning.
