The College of Agriculture of SLSU, a CHED Center of Development in Forestry conducted a 2-day activity that aims to improve the gender-responsive pedagogy in teaching. The event includes series of talks delivered by Asst. Prof. Percival Verano, Dr. Marife Magpantay, and Dr. Vanessa Zubieta. This activity was organized in order to enhance the capacity and understanding of the collegeโs faculty members and staff about gender-responsive pedagogy; update the members of the faculty on writing table of specifications and test questions; and improve the camaraderie and teamwork among the faculty and staff towards better service delivery for gender-responsive resources management and conservation.

Yesterday, on June 27, Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) held solemn blessing rites for its newest service vehicle in front of the Administration Building, Main Campus. The rites were officiated by Rev. Fr. Reymart Karl P. Estrada, Parochial Vicar of St. Louis Bishop Parish - Lucban, Quezon, coinciding with the Feast day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the patroness of the University.
The event was attended by Dr. Frederick T. Villa, University President, alongside university officials, members of the religious committee, and representatives from the student body. The blessing marks a significant addition to SLSU's resources aimed at enhancing support services for its faculty and staff as well as students across its campuses.
๐Faculty and Staff Development:
The Samahang Tagapagtaguyod ng Katutubong Sayaw ng Pilipinas Foundation, Inc. (Philippine Folk Dance Society), the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in partnership with the Holy Angel University and the City Government of San Jose del Monte conducted the 2024 National Folk Dance Workshop from June 24 to 28, 2024 at the City Sports Complex of the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. SLSU was represented by Asst. Prof. Rico M. Rosales of the CTE Institute of Human Kinetics.
The workshop aims to enhance competencies in teaching traditional Philippine and Asian dances among teachers, dance trainers, choreographers, director, dancers, and dance enthusiasts; present relevant resource materials on Philippine Folk and Traditional dances; and discuss significant issues and concerns of folk dancers, dance teachers, trainers, choreographers, and the arts and culture council.
Asst. Prof. Rosales attended the 5-day workshop that includes dance sessions, panel discussion, lecture-demonstrations, forum, street dance, cultural shows, folk dance competition, regional presentations, city tour and a culminating showcase by all the participants.

SLSU Gumaca Campus conducted its first ever GAD Seminar and Team Building Activity on June 6-7, 2024 at Villa Iyana Beach and Resort, Catanauan, Quezon
With the theme "Oh My GAD!: My Past, My Present: Gender Difference in Society and in the Work Place," Dr. Mirasol Manlapaz, the resource speaker, highlighted "inclusivity" in the workplace regardless of gender and personal differences as one of the keys in the success of the campus.
Team building activities were conducted to cultivate camaraderie and bond among faculty and employees of Gumaca Campus. Dr. Nilo H. Dator, Campus director, remarks the need for a strong bond among faculty and employees since the Campus have so much projects and developments underway.
Ms. Harlene Dimailig, the campus GAD Coordinator, expressed her appreciation for the support on this first ever GAD activity and team building seminar of SLSU Gumaca. She envisions for more faculty and employee development activities of the campus in the future.

Under the theme โNavigating the Digital Workplace' Fostering Leadership, Spirituality, and Sustainability,โ this 3-day conference spearheaded by Civil Service Commission (CSC) Regional Office IV and participated in by 600+ Human Resource Management Practitioners in Region IV from CALABARZON and MIMAROPA was held at Queen Margarette Hotel - Main, Lucena City, Quezon on June 18-20, 2024. Various learning, panel, and research presentation sessions commands a challenge of transforming HRM with the intersectionality of dynamic leadership, digitalization, well-being, and the reforms being introduce by CSC.

๐Strategic Planning:
Under the theme "YES 4 SLSU: Yielding and Elevating to SUC Level 4," the Administrative and Financial Affairs offices, led by Dr. Erwin D. Villaverde, CPA, Chief Administrative Officer, convened a two-day strategic planning workshop on June 19-20, 2024, at Kimberly Hotel, Tagaytay City.
The workshop featured A/Prof. Jed Frank Marqueses, Director of the Institutional Planning and Development Office, and EnP Michelle Gensaya, CED I, as resource speaker and facilitator respectively. Each AFA office presented their strategic outputs, while engaging group activities enhanced teamwork and camaraderie among participants. The event was honored by the presence of University President Dr. Frederick T. Villa.

SLSUโs Professor II and Head of the Mt. Banahaw Protection and Conservation Unit, Dr. Francisco N. Beltran attended the 3rd National Protected Areas Conference, held in Manila from 24 to 28 June. This four-day event held at Crowne Plaza Galleria with the theme "Building Resilience of People and Ecosystems Through Innovations and Enhanced Collaboration in Protected Area Management," bring together scientists, experts, advocates, private individuals, and government workers who are working for the preservation of the remaining biodiversity in the country's protected areas.
This DENR-BMB-organized conference featured series of plenary and breakout sessions tackling topics on resilience, innovation, and collaboration in protected area management and biodiversity conservation agenda.

Highlights of the study:
โข Species of plus trees/mother trees at the northeastern slope of Mt. Banahaw de Lucban were represented by 12 families, namely Annonaceae, Fabaceae, Fagaceae, Clusiaceae, Meliaceae, Myrtaceae, Podocarpaceae, Sapindaceae, Sapotaceae, Symplocaceae, Theaceae and Tiliaceae.
โข The plus/mother trees found at 700, 800, and 900 masl exhibit good phenotypic characteristics (5-6 average score), indicating their potential for seed production. In comparison, those found at 1000 masl-1800 masl show fair (3-4 average score) phenotypic characteristics but still hold promise for seed production.
โข The identified plus trees have the potential for seed production or sources of propagules such as ๐พ๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ (๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ Merr.) at 700-900 masl while ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ (๐๐ฆ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐ข๐ Benth.) and ๐ต๐๐๐โ๐๐ค ๐ผ๐๐๐ (๐ท๐๐๐๐ฆ๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐๐ (Parl.) de Laub.) at higher elevations.

DOST webinar posts GIS and CHERMโs public awareness
To support strategic decision making and policy formulation in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Quezon conducted its Webinar Series #7 discussing the Geographic Information System (GIS) together with the Center for Hazards and Environmental Resource Mapping (CHERM) via Zoom, June 14, 2024.
GIS is a computer-based system including software, hardware, people, and geographic information that can create, edit, query, analyze, and display map information on the computer. Through GIS, people can build knowledge and solve problems as it contains rich datasets and powerful analytical tools, and create maps and other useful information.
Mr. Anthony L. Empamano, SLSU CHERM GIS specialist, shared his expertise in GIS. Ms. Phoebe Ann Hadaza V. Barba, SLSU CHERM Science Aide, gave an overview of CHERMโs profile and services that can be requested by the public for free.
SLSU CHERM is the DOST CALABARZONโs first one-stop-shop for data-driven and evidence-based planning and implementation for hazards, environmental mapping, and other services.
Local Government Units (LGUs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and private practitioners from CALABARZON utilized the event for the learning, clarification and queries.
