The Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) is in the works of updating the Seismic Provisions that will be included in the 8th Edition of the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP 2022), which will result in the transition from using UBC 97 to ASCE Seismic Design Provisions.

With this, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), specifically the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has developed the Spectral Acceleration Maps of the Philippines (SAM PH) showing the Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCE) using Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis.

This groundbreaking development not only helps to update our Country's Seismic Provisions but can also be used as a reference for the assessment and retrofitting of existing structures to conform to the building standards.
