Parang bumubusina na naman ba ang baga ninyo sa paulit-ulit nitong pagkati at pag-ingay sa umaga, tanghali at gabi? Baka UBO na ‘yan!

Ang UBO ay sintomas ng mga sakit na maaaring konektado sa daluyan ng paghinga o baga, at maaaring magkaiba ayon sa “virus” o “bacteria” na nagdulot nito.

MGA SANHI NG UBO:

May iba’t-ibang sanhi ang ubo at dahil dito ay nagkakaiba-iba rin ang lunas nito. Para sa kaunawaan ng lahat, ang ubo ay maaaring dulot ng virus o bacteria. Kung ito ay dulot ng virus, o iyong pagkahawa, maaari itong mawala ng kusa sa loob ng isang araw o isang linggo. Ngunit kung ito nama’y dulot ng bacteria, kadalasa’y nangangailangan na ito ng antibiotics. Subalit may mga uri rin ng ubo na malubha gaya ng ubong tumatagal, o chronic cough, na maaaring dulot ng tuberculosis (TB). Hindi rin basta-bastang nawawala ang chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) o ubong sanhi ng hika o asthma. Mayroon din namang ang ubo ay dulot ng paninigarilyo (smoker’s cough), trangkaso, o allergy. Sa puntong ito, importanteng malaman muna ang sanhi ng ubo bago humanap o gumawa ng solusyon upang puksain ito.

MGA KATANGIAN NG UBO:

Hindi lang basta-basta ang UBO. Mayroong iba’t ibang uri ng ubo at importanteng malaman anong uri ng ubo ang nararanasan mo para makakuha ng wastong gamot para rito.

DRY COUGH (TUYONG UBO):

Ang DRY COUGH o tuyong ubo ang isa sa pinakapangkaraniwang uri ng ubo sa Pilipinas. Nararanasan ito kapag sinisipon ang isang tao o kaya’y nakakaranas ng trangkaso. Nangyayari ang dry cough kapag walang plema o ang tinatawag na mucus sa lalamunan. Ang epektibo at abot-kayang gamot sa matigas na ubo ay GUAIFENESIN o kaya Lagundi syrup na mahahanap sa lahat ng The Generics Pharmacy branches nationwide.

WET COUGH (BASANG UBO/MAPLEMANG UBO):

Ang WET COUGH naman ay ubo na nanggagaling sa baga imbis na sa lalamunan lamang. Ito’y sinasamahan ng plema na mahirap ilabas. Ang wet cough ay sanhi ng isang impeksyon tulad ng trangkaso, sipon, or mas malubhang impeksyon sa baga. Pag dating sa wet cough, hindi mo na kailangan mag-alala dahil may mga paraan kung paano palabasin ang plema sa baga. Kinakailangan lang ng cough drops , Carboceisteine o kaya’y over-the-counter pain relievers. Kung ang sanhi nito ay bacterial infection, kinakailangan ito gamutin gamit ng antibiotics.

WHOOPING COUGH (MAHALAK NA UBO):

WHOOPING COUGH, o pertussis, ay isang nakakahawang uri ng ubo. Madalas itong nararanasan ng mga bagong panganak na sanggol o kaya naman ng mga taong di pa nababakunahan laban sa whooping cough. Ang sintomas ng whooping cough ay hawig ng sintomas ng trangkaso, ngunit may kasabay ito na malubha at masakit na pag-ubo. Ang pinakamaigi na pang iwas dito ay ang pagbabakuna laban sa WHOOPING COUGH.

CHRONIC COUGH (TALAMAK NA UBO):

Ang CHRONIC COUGH ay may sintomas na mas matagal kumpara sa pangkaraniwang ubo, kadalasa’y lalagpas ng 8 linggo. Madalas ito’y sintomas ng mas malalang karamdaman na hindi naaagapan. Kung nakakaramdam ka ng chronic cough, agad na magpatingin sa iyong doktor para malaman ang tunay na sanhi ng iyong ubo. Ang chronic cough ay puwedeng maging epekto ng paninigarilyo, pulmonya, kanser, or impeksyon sa baga.

ANO ANG LUNAS SA KARANIWANG UBO?

Para sa karaniwang ubo, maaaring uminom ng gamot na mabibili sa botika. Ilan sa mga halimbawa nito ay ang mga decongestant na tumutulong upang paginhawain ang iyong lalamunan tulad ng pseudoephedrine at phenylephrine. Maaari ding uminom ng expectorant na inirerekomenda para sa may halak, halimbawa ng gamot na ito ay DEXTROMETHORPHAN.

Ang mga gamot na ito ay maaaring mabili sa botika ng hindi nangangailangan ng reseta, gayunpaman, mas mabuti nang mabigyan ng abiso ng doktor o nars upang mas maging epektibo ang pag-inom ng mga gamot na ito. Bukod pa rito, marapat lamang na tandaan na hindi nakabubuti sa katawan ang madalas o sobrang pag-inom ng gamot sapagkat maaari itong magdulot ng allergy, o paghina ng immune system. Tulad ng nabanggit na sa unang bahagi ng artikulong ito, may mga uri pa rin ng ubo na maaaring mawala ng kusa.

TATLONG URI NG GAMOT PANLABAN SA UBO:

Kung ikaw ay bibili sa botika, marapat lamang na iyong malaman ang tatlong uri ng gamot laban sa ubo:

EXPECTORANT:

Ang EXPECTORANT ay isang uri ng gamot na kumukontra sa ubo. Tinutulungan nitong ilabas ang plema na bumabara sa iyong lalamunan na siya ring nagdudulot ng iyong ubo. Ito ay kadalasang inirerekomenda sa mga ubong may halak, o iyong pumuputok. Ang kilalang halimbawa ng gamot nito ay ang GUAIFENESIN.

MUCOLYTIC:

Ang MUCOLYTIC ay isang uri ng gamot na ito ay tumutulong sa paglalabas ng plema. Pinalalambot nito ang makapal at malagkit na plema na syang humaharang sa daluyan ng hangin, upang ito’y mas madaling ilabas at tuluyang mawala ang ubo. Karaniwang mabibili ito sa anyo ng mga gamot na MUCOSOLVAN(Ambroxol) at SOLMUX (Carbocistine).

ANTITUSSIVE:

Ang ANTITUSSIVE ay isang uri ng gamot na pumipigil sa ubo. Ito ay kadalasang inirerekomenda kung ang ubo’y nakakasagabal sa pagtulog o nagiging dahilan ng pagiging hindi komportable ng isang tao sa araw-araw niyang gawain. Ito rin ay madalas na ihinahalo sa expectorant para sa mas epektibong lunas. Ang karaniwang halimbawa ng antitussive drug ay DEXTROMETHORPHAN, at ang kilalang tatak nito ay Vicks 44 Cough and Cold at Robitussin Cough.

Vitamin C has many health benefits. For example, it helps strengthen our immune system and may help lower blood pressure. It is found in many fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin C is an essential vitamin, meaning your body can’t produce it. Yet, it has many roles and has been linked to impressive health benefits.

It’s water-soluble and found in many fruits and vegetables, including oranges, strawberries, kiwi fruit, bell peppers, broccoli, kale, and spinach.

The recommended daily intake for vitamin C is 75 mg for women and 90 mg for men.

While it’s commonly advised to get your vitamin C intake from foods, many people turn to supplements to meet their needs.

Here are 7 scientifically proven benefits of taking a vitamin C supplement:

1. MAY REDUCE YOUR RISK OF CHRONIC DISEASE
- Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can strengthen your body’s natural defenses.
- Antioxidants are molecules that boost the immune system. They do so by protecting cells from harmful molecules called free radicals. When free radicals accumulate, they can promote a state known as oxidative stress, which has been linked to many chronic diseases.
- Studies show that consuming more vitamin C can increase your blood antioxidant levels by up to 30%. This helps the body’s natural defenses fight inflammation.

2. MAY HELP MANAGE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
- High blood pressure puts you at risk of heart disease, the leading cause of death globally.
- Studies have shown that vitamin C may help lower blood pressure in both those with and without high blood pressure. A study found that taking a vitamin C supplement helped relax the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart, which helped reduce blood pressure levels.
- Moreover, an analysis of 29 human studies found that taking a vitamin C supplement reduced systolic blood pressure (the upper value) by 3.8 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (the lower value) by 1.5 mmHg, on average, in healthy adults.

While these results are promising, it’s not clear whether the effects on blood pressure are long term. Moreover, people with high blood pressure should not rely on vitamin C alone for treatment.

3. MAY LOWER YOUR RISK OF HEART DISEASE
- Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide.
- Many factors increase the risk of heart disease, including high blood pressure, high triglyceride or LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, and low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol.

- Vitamin C may help reduce these risk factors, which may reduce heart disease risk. For example, an analysis of 9 studies with a combined 293,172 participants found that after 10 years, people who took at least 700 mg of vitamin C daily had a 25% lower risk of heart disease than those who did not take a vitamin C supplement.

- Interestingly, another analysis of 15 studies found that consuming vitamin C from foods — not supplements — was linked to a lower risk of heart disease.

- However, scientists were unsure whether people who consumed vitamin-C-rich foods also followed a healthier lifestyle than people who took a supplement. Thus, it remains unclear whether the differences were due to vitamin C or other aspects of their diet. Another analysis of 13 studies looked at the effects of taking at least 500 mg of vitamin C daily on risk factors for heart disease, such as blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

- The analysis found that taking a vitamin C supplement significantly reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol by approximately 7.9 mg/dL and blood triglycerides by 20.1 mg/dL.

- In short, it seems that taking or consuming at least 500 mg of vitamin C daily may reduce the risk of heart disease. However, if you already consume a vitamin-C-rich diet, then supplements may not provide additional heart health benefits.

4. MAY REDUCE BLOOD URIC ACID LEVELS AND HELP PREVENT GOUT ATTACKS
- It’s incredibly painful and involves inflammation of the joints, especially those of the big toes. People with gout experience swelling and sudden, severe attacks of pain.
